Follow the Master

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven
- Matthew 5, 16

The Truth doth He proclaim, both in its letter and in its spirit, beautiful in its origin, beautiful in its progress, beautiful in its consummation; the Higher Life doth He reveal, in all its purity and all its perfectness
- Tevigga Suttanta

Therefore, 0 Ananda, be ye lamps unto yourselves. Be ye a refuge to yourselves. Betake yourselves to no external refuge. Hold fast to the Truth as a lamp. Hold fast to the Truth as a refuge. - The Book of the Great Decease

Seek and enjoy the sacred elixir of meditation; Once samadhi hath been tasted, hunger endeth, Tingri folk.
Drink ye deeply of the nectar of the Stream of Consciousness;
'Tis perennial, thirst assuaging, cool and pure, O Tingri folk.
- The Tibetan Book of The Great Liberation

Knowest thou what thou art
In the hour of sleep -
A mere body - a mere soul -
Or a secret retreat of the light?
- 6th Century Bardic poem

I am sent to you by the Father, that I may make the light of life to shine before you. The light lightens itself and the darkness, but the darkness knows only itself, and knows not the light. When you can gaze on the brightness of the noonday sun with unflinching eyes, you can then look upon the blinding light of your Heavenly Father, which is a thousand times brighter than the brightness of a thousand suns … Believe me, the sun is as the flame of a candle beside the sun of truth of the Heavenly Father
- The Gospel of Peace of Jesus Christ

The Saviour answered and said unto his disciples: preach ye unto the whole world, saying unto men, strive together that ye may receive the mysteries of light in this time of stress, and enter the kingdom of light. Put not off from day to day, and from cycle to cycle, in the belief that ye will succeed in obtaining the mysteries when ye return to the world in another cycle
- Pistis Sophia

But how vast is the difference between enjoyment of the Creator and enjoyment of His creation; between things of Eternity and those of time; between Light Uncreated and light created!
O Light everlasting, surpassing all created light! Pour forth from Heaven the glorious rays of Your Light, and pierce the very depths
of my heart! Purify, gladden, light and quicken the powers of my Spirit, that it may hold to You with joy unspeakable
- Thomas a Kempis
Imitation of Christ, III, 34

The world's scriptures, and lesser-known texts now coming to light, describe the experience called Knowledge revealed by great spiritual Masters. The quotations presented here illustrate this universal truth common to all scriptures; the universal truth that Guru Maharaj Ji reveals today.

Push Your Pawns Carefully

Questions put to Guru Maharaj Ji in Los Angeles recently.

Very often I feel full of faults …

Yes, it's funny. To tell you the truth, if you really start to think that you're full of faults, you'll be the most horrible person alive. If you think that you are someone good, you'll be the best person in the world. Really it depends on the idea you have of yourself. Go home and try it for a quarter of an hour. Say to yourself that you are a terrible creature, and you will remember everything wrong you've ever done. "Oh, I am really a strange creature … and I've always spoiled everything", but tell yourself "I am the best person in the world" and if you really believe it, everything good you've done will come to your mind and you will certainly feel quite different. Your mood depends entirely on what you think.

Maharaj Ji, I say a prayer to you sometimes before meditating. Can you hear me?

My telephone is ringing. (Laughter) I'm not going to in into my office and press buttons to hear you. Everything is there and you must really immerse yourself in it. It will be there, it is there. However I must tell you one thing: you're waiting for a reply from me and the fact is that I have meditated and I have attained a certain point from which I can reply to you. And you must now understand that you can also reach the same point, if you meditate. You must meditate, right?

Could you talk about educating children?

I really love children. I surround myself with them as often as possible. I understand that for them love is the most important thing, if you can really love them. That doesn't mean that you have to give them buckets of sweets or put up with all their tantrums. That's not love. But just give children love and they won't need toys, they'll love and appreciate you. You'll work so well with love that they'll listen to everything you tell them. They'll listen to you really well. If you show them a great deal of love, that will give them the maturity to understand everything.

How should I give Satsang to my parents?

Have you ever played chess? There's a way of moving on the chessboard which is like crushing the opponent: you take your Queen and go forward at full speed.

There's also another way: very softly. You push your pawns carefully, you get your Rooks out, your Knights, your Bishops, and you play quietly. You crush your opponent, not by a single move but bit by bit. Then you isolate the King in a corner and give him check and mate. It's a fantastic game when there are only two or three pawns left on the board and you push the King to checkmate. What I mean is that parents are very uneasy, and no one should blame them for the way they've been educated. What would you do in their place? So, when you give them Satsang, advance one pawn after the other, softly until they are surrounded then take a Mahatma, or someone like a Queen, and checkmate them!
