QUESTIONS
AND
ANSWERS

On July 5 and 6, Maharaji spent several hours answering a wide variety of questions from people attending the North American Convention. Following are excerpts from each of the three question and answer sessions: "Resources," "How to Talk About Knowledge," and "Open Forum."

RESOURCES

iv_04 (70K) Thank you and welcome to the Resources Information session. The first thing we need to look at today is "what are we doing?" But even more importantly, we need to understand why we are doing it. We really need to have a proper understanding, a proper inspiration, and a proper foundation before we attempt to do anything.

In many ways, that's what I do. I make sure that the foundation, in terms of understanding, is correct. There has to be an incredible amount of synchronization for anything to take place. Not only do we have to be synchronized with the other people we're dealing with to pull a specific project together, we have to remember why we are doing it.

When we have the experience that Knowledge brings, a certain quality comes into our lives. Something happens. Do we acknowledge that quality? Do we stay unanimous with that quality? Or do we try to go off on our own whim and accomplish something?

You've built a team of people that works with you on worldwide projects. On a local level, I want to build a team of people who are willing to volunteer to support your work.

I think it's beautiful that you have this goal. But I am also of the attitude that "doers" end up doing something sometimes that everybody ends up regretting. My question is: "How can we capture that spirit and have what's needed without it becoming a bureaucratic system?"

We're not trying to create a hierarchy. There is no hierarchy here. We're all in the same boat and going in the same direction. Sure, we have our goods and bads. We have our rough times too. But we also have whatever it takes to pull it together. Remember, we're in it because we enjoy it. Because we love it.

Maharaji, I've asked about becoming an instructor. How can I go about doing that?

If you want to be an instructor, apply. If your application is already in, you will either hear appropriately or be invited to one of the instructor conferences. There is no push. A lot of people have applied and it is proceeding. I think the part-time instructor program has been a tremendous success. It has allowed a lot of people to be able to come forward. I have high hopes for anyone who wants to be involved.

Are there any limitations on the size of the audience needed for putting together a program for you? Is it 500? Is it 5,000? Is it five?

I don't think I'll ever set a minimum. In Tahiti, there were 50 people and I really enjoyed that program. The spirit was there, the feeling was there, and it was a lot of fun. I've also recently done program in india for approximately 150,000 people. From 50 to 150,000 is a dramatic difference, but there was something similar about them both.

For years, I regarded you as one who was destined to do what you do. But I realize now it's a choice you have made. It really keeps me inspired to watch your endless energy and the tremendous love with which you approach everything you do.

Thank you. And yes, it's true. Choice, not chance, determines destiny. And that's the way it is. It's not a question of destiny. It's a question of a very, very, very clear choice - one that can be unchosen as well. I love doing what I do. It doesn't matter to me if I'm having a cup of cappuccino or trying giraffe's milk in Zambia. I'm enjoying my life. I think that's why we are all here - because we want to be here. Because we want to be able to enjoy this life.

I don't know how much information you've gained from today's resources session. But I do hope you understand that inspiration is key element. The other key element is choice - your own willingness to do it. To be there. To be able to respond spontaneously. After that, all the specifics will fall into place.

Thank you very much.
