PMT 019: Guru Maharaj Ji (aka Prem Rawat) Los Angeles, 14th June 1974

This is a short speech lasting about 35 minutes in which he stresses the human propensity for destruction. He says 'like' 37 times, 'Knowledge' 21 times, "it's like 17 times, "you know" 13 times and beautiful 11 times. Apparently all the children he knew were obsessed with killing insects at every opportunity. He also stresses the big, huge mess that occurs in the lives of premies who don't meditate. An edited version of this speech was published in the Divine Times of June 1974 under the title "Get Together, Get Stronger." At one point he seems to be arguing that humans are born wild and destructive because they come from a place where there is no destruction. Of course no speech is complete without mention of car engines, motorbikes or the motorhome. Word had not got around to everybody that the "Holy Family" were no longer holy and did not qualify for Bolie Shris anymore.

Well, short stop, so actually uh many premies requested Marolyn and uh she said "I think we should go to the program." (Rawat giggles) I just said "Beat it." (laughter)

I understand that uh many of these premies won't be able to come to Amherst but at least they should try, try to make it there. But if you can't, I guess uh this is the, you know, it's like premies are premies and there's premies are like united power and it's like, there can be four pistons or eight pistons and eight pieces of block lying in four corners of the world, but they wouldn't produce any horsepower, they wouldn't produce any power but if they all are combined, that block, those pistons and all that is combined and the carburetor is put on top and all that is combined together you wouldn't believe, it produces 350 horsepower. Out of that same thing which could have been in four corners of the world producing nothing, just nothing doing nothing but when that is all combined, it's, it's too much, it's amazing.

And the same thing is with premies. See because there are all these people all around the world doing nothing. Nothing at all. I mean, it's zero. Even if they are doing anything, it's for their own destruction. It's completely zero; it's completely nil.

But when they are all combined, put together, and made premies, then they have enormous, amazing amount of power and I have reason to believe that if all the premies in LA can cooperate and it's a big city then it's very, very possible we'll celebrate the Guru Puja, the next Guru Puja here (Bolie Shri Satgurudev Maharaj Ki Jai!) but see, the thing is, still you have to just come together and do something about it.

Sitting in your seats and relaxing you know or listen there are two parts of an activity. One is spiritual, which already has taken place and we all have realized Knowledge, and we are into it. But the physical part of the same activity is to just open up, to just completely, completely open up and just go ahead and tell every person that this Knowledge is there and that's the physical part, I mean, I, when I received Knowledge, I could have been just sitting in India, relaxing. Tell you, it was a big house and was pretty cold too. When I came to Alta Loma Terrace it was heating but the thing is I could have said to myself, "Listen. You have realized the spiritual part of it and you are only concerned by that. So, beat it." And I could have been sitting there and all these premies which are now there, wouldn't have been able to realize this fantastic Knowledge.

But now, I came out and did the physical part of it and that is to just go ahead and tell everybody, cooperate with each other, and to just go like a tank, blasting through everything. Even tank is not a perfect example, because when a tank blows up, it blows up sky high. But this Knowledge, this united power, is made in such a way that it will not blow up. It will have no end to it, because it had no beginning to it. It was always there and you are like little circuits and when these circuits are plugged in, it makes a full complete circuit and you, premies, are the persons who have been missing from that circuit. You are little transistors, little pieces of wire, little pieces of soldering iron but when all that is put together and makes a complete circuit because see it was always there, that power was always there and thus that power cannot be destroyed because see it's like if you make something there is always a gap left in it where it can be also destroyed and this is what like.

It sounds very, very strange but only through Knowledge you can understand that how everything that is created in this world will destroy one day but this Knowledge which has no beginning how can it destroy? Because when person first stepped in this world and started understanding it then come the, then came the word 'destruction.' Before that he never even knew what was destruction because he had come out of something which had no destruction and that is why a person who comes into this world has to learn everything about this world, has to learn completely everything. Otherwise he is called wild. Because where he comes from, it's a little different. Everything is a little different every place and the major part of it is destruction. Why does a van, man completely wants to destroy? Because it is something that is very, very rare for him - a very rare thing.

If you see little kids and they see ants, they'll just chase 'em down, wherever they are and they just stomp on 'em, and just kill 'em, everything, destroy 'em and it's like, they just, they just love it, just love it, you know. They see a bee or something, they just chase it around till it sits somewhere and throw rocks at him and just see him die, destroy him.

Because from where he comes, no matter what you do, there is no destruction. But in this world where he is, they can destroy. Everything you can destroy and this is what man is up to. It's just like a little puppy, like, like, like a little child chasing up to man's route where he lives, what is man things are. Like destroying animals which will give us skulls and things like that, farmland, place to live, is just completely destroying it so that instead of destroying a man himself he destroys his place so when he comes back there is nothing there and he has to just completely die and so now, it's like, whatever I am going to say is going to be probably very common or not very common but you know, it is for you to understand, for you to really recognize what this Knowledge is and what can it do and until we have that practical experience, see we are not gonna gain anything from it until we really meditate because we have to understand this Knowledge was already within us before we received it, before it was revealed to us, it was already there.

What was it doing to us? Wasn't giving us any peace. But then, when it was revealed to us, and for the first time in our life we concentrated on it, for the first time in our life we really focused at that point, immediately we feel that, that energy there. Immediately and that's the whole thing, that you have to focus yourself till you permanently get focused. You focus so much in it, that it permanently gets focused.

It was like uh I was starting a motorbike up today, and I pressed the gas so that it would heat up, for a long time, and I left it; it got stuck there and it's like, just keep it there that long, and it'll get stuck. That focus will just focus for once and for all, and just stay there and all you have to do is just sit down, relax, and watch the beautiful movie and it's such a movie that'll give you sound, picture, water and the most beautiful vibration. It's a beautiful movie. I mean, they don't even make it. (laughter) You see this beautiful waterfall and you are watching and before you know it you are drowned in it. You see these beautiful things happening, beautiful vibrations, before you know, you are completely merged into it. You see this beautiful sun and before you know, you are right into the heart of that sun. And this is what this Knowledge is. You wanna watch a movie, enjoy it, set the projector up first because uh I think it's a very messy way to watch a film put it on your hand like that. (laughter) You won't get anything out of it. Set the projector up and then watch out you better have a lens on it. If you don't have a lens, forget it. There'll be a big blur, that's all. I mean something will be coming out but it'll be a blur and the ??? the movie threaded properly but when all those things combine, you switch it on and let it roll and just beautiful movie and then once you let it roll because see yous, all you did was set up the projector but you didn't make the movie. Movie came to you, movie was revealed to you, movie was given to you so the projector can, the projector can be destroyed and that's this body, can be destroyed but the movie in it can never be destroyed and this is what all the premies have to understand. Okay and uh I hope you make it to Guru Puja and if you don't, when I come back maybe we can hold a big program here, just to uh cover up for Guru Puja. (laughter)

But the only thing I, you know, I can say is, there are many premies who think, "Wow, means what's the big deal? I mean, we have received Knowledge now and what does he want to do us any more?" Listen, it's not what we want you to do, it's something you must do. I mean, not even mentioning it. It's, it's like, it is something in you that'll compulse you to do it and that thing is like something when a person receives Knowledge, you know, it's like if a song comes on, a really beautiful song that you have been just waiting and you buy this cartridge which has 24 songs on it and you put it in and because it's a cartridge it's got, you can't, you can't do anything about it, it's just gonna come and you just have to wait for it and you've been waiting and waiting and you don't like all these songs so you squeeze the volume down but when that particular song you like comes what do you do? Shut it off? Because it's this is the song you like so you shut it off? No you don't. When it comes on you just put the volume as high as it'll go without any distortion. I mean I just put the volume all the way up so it distorts but at the point where it doesn't distort and you can hear it as loud as possible and you see it's like the same thing what is it? It's a common thing, what is it? It happens with everybody, everybody has a favourite song when it comes on you turn up the volume already. What is it?

The same thing is with Knowledge because it is such a fantastic thing. Of course the people who haven't had any experience who just are not even interested when they come to know the Knowledge it's because "Give it a try." You know it's like uh you walk into the motorhome and the guy says "You want to drive it?" You say "No, I was just looking inside." Listen you're looking inside, inside can be made out of gold but until you drive it, you will not understand how it will handle. Maybe it's such a way that you take a corner and the whole sofa and everything falls apart in it. You have to drive it and you have to see that everything is there and you run in place and everything will be in order and it's like ooh ooh that's the case with some premies. "Oh yeah, I've received Knowledge but you know it was only for trying. I don't want to meditate, that's too big of a hassle for me." Listen, it's not, so understand it, realize it and because it's so beautiful you'll stick to it and there is no question about it, it's like a electro-magnet. You have this big huge magnet, you have this, you are this neel (needle) and this neel is lying there and you closer, closer, closer, closer, closer, closer, closer, nothing happens so you go all the way far away because nothing happened and then you really start meditating and that's like taking those negative and positive wires, taking them to the plug.

As soon as you do it, before you know, before you know (snaps fingers) you're right back there where you should be that you came to and nothing happened and so it's like Knowledge is like our first concern. You have to understand it. If you do not understand it we start sticking our foots into these different things we'll be a big mess that's all. Big, big, huge mess. I mean you take some fruits and vegetables, vegetables and you put them in this pan and you put 'em on the, on the stove and you tell seven different people to cook it, you'll end up as a great big mess and nothing else because it's like everybody comes and does something to it and everybody comes and does something and if a man will make that out of his life he'll be a big mess.

But the first thing you should understand is Knowledge, by doing satsang, service, and meditation, these are, it's like dosage, it's like strong dosage which you are given, and you just heal faster. I mean, a man heals himself, his body is made to heal himself, but when doctor gives you dosage, doctor give you some medicine, it heals faster and the same thing is with this Knowledge. Knowledge is there, and it's supposed to grow itself but these three things, satsang, service and meditation, make it grow a lot faster. And when it's there, it's all you want, it's so beautiful.

So premies, get together, get strong. Because that's where we all want to be. You have never experienced strongness. Maybe some people are the bosses of their house, so they know. But this is not what strongness is called, that's called meanness, you are mean to people. But what's strongness is when everybody gets together, with love. Everybody gets together, with love and then listen, you can take a dog and beat him up to hell. He won't do what you want to do, want him to do. Love him and, and like him (snaps his fingers) you tell him to do something and he'll do it. He'll do it (snaps his fingers) like that and it's like that love is the greatest unity and when it combines all of us into one part, it just develops us, just takes us right through. Then we can do whatever we want to do, give this whole Knowledge, this world Knowledge in maybe one day but it takes cooperation, it takes unity of all premies.
