Within Inside

This satsang was given by Prem Rawat (Guru Maharaj Ji) on August 24, 1974 in Los Angeles.

Dear premies, you know, I tell you different things, but remember, premies, there is really something that I want you to do: try to experience Knowledge by yourselves. Because as they say, 'a medicine for one, and a poison for another'. Try to experience it yourself. Try to. There is no harm at all in tryin'. And there will be an answer, because there is supposed to be an answer.

You know, if a tape recorder is not working, why do you start looking for the batteries, why do you start looking for the switches, keep pressing these switches, and this switch and that switch? Why? Because you know that the tape recorder is supposed to be working, and you want it to be working. That's why you start looking for all these switches and start playing around with it. And if it doesn't work, you send it to the shop, because that's not the nature of a tape recorder. Its' nature is that it should play when ordered to play, stop when ordered to stop, record when ordered to record.

So, realize it for yourself. Because this Knowledge is completely universal. It's within every human being, every single human being. The only problem is to dig it out. It's like, there is water underground, but you just have to dig it out of yourselves. And it's just so beautiful, it's just so fantastic. It's really incredible when the whole thing gets into a flow.

You can't go into much explanation about that, because there isn't much explanation. It's a practical experience. And something which is a practical experience has to be practically realized. This is why I am telling you to try to realize practically what I am trying to tell you. Because that is going to be of great help to you. Then the questions, the doubts, that keep occuring into your head will be completely stopped.

You know, I say something, and you go back and say, "Oh, what did Maharaj Ji say that for?" "What did that mean?" But if you can realize it practically, then there are no questions about it. Then you can't say, "Well, what did Maharaj Ji say that for?" And another person says, "Because of this and this and this and this purpose." You have realized it yourself.

You come here and you want to listen to satsang, and you like it, or maybe you don't - but that's what I understand, that you like it. Well, that's what they tell me at least. So I come here and give you satsang and you listen to satsang, and you expect something. Right? You expect that I tell you something about this Knowledge.

But premies, understand this - that this Knowledge is within inside of you, and what I am trying to tell you is an experience. That same Knowledge that is within me is within inside of you. That experience is also attainable by you. That's what's so fantastic. That's what I'm trying to reach for. That's why I

come and have so many programs and I just really - maybe I bug you all the time. But this is the reason. Why? Because I know you can get there, and I'm just saying go on, just get out there, and just be there!

You're on a ladder, and all I want you to do is go up there. Because if you can be up there, then you have a way down, a beautiful way down. And that's the elevator. It's just beautiful. Right? I don't want you coming back down on that same staircase, because the moment you will look down, that's going to be it for you. It's too high. You look at this ladder and it's all shaking, and most of the pieces are broken. Now it is going to be very, very hard for you. That's why I want you to be out there. What I have been able to realize, you can realize that. Very, very easily. It's no big problem. Well, of course, you can make it a big problem, but don't do it. If you don't do meditation, you're never going to be realizing Knowledge. But if you do, it's all there.

So premies, try to realize what I am trying to say, because, well, somewhere along the line it does carry some meaning, because it is something that I have experienced. And if I have experienced that, then it's pretty easy for you to also experience it. But you've got to try. And if you think I am bugging you, that's the reason I am bugging you. If you don't think I am bugging you, great. But still do that. Try to do meditation; try to get there. Because that's where you always wanted to get, and that's where it's so beautiful.

You know, the whole thing is that it's supposed to be there. So if somebody comes along and tells you to be there, it's not like a commercial comes on saying, "Oh, you must have a Ford," and you say, "Why should I have a Ford? I'm not gonna have a Ford." Some people are very stubborn. But this is not that way, that, "Why should 1 have a Ford? Maybe I'm not supposed to have a Ford." This is not it.

Because you originated from that point, and you have to go back there. That is where completeness is. This is where you always wanted to be, and this is where you are going to be. Like, you're a part of it.

Scientifically, you can explain it the other way around, but this is how some saints describe it, that when you throw a piece of rock in the air, it always comes down because it's part of the earth. Unless and until it's met with its whole, it's not satisfied.

A flame always rises up. And the reason for it is it's a part of the sun. Until it's met with it's whole, it's not satisfied. All the rivers flow towards the ocean because they are a part of the ocean. The flow is so rapid, so fast - I mean, you have seen how fast they flow. Can you imagine these rivers just flowing and flowing and flowing and flowing? They don't care if they have to go over dams, if they have to go over rocks, if they have to go over trees - anything. It's so beautiful.

Here is this huge river just flowing so fast. But when it merges with the ocean, that's it. No more river, no more force. It all just merges into one big beautiful thing. This is how the saints explain it. We are a part of the whole. Something within inside of us is a part of that whole thing. And it wants to go and meet it, wants to be one with it.

That is why there is something always within inside of a human being just saying, "Oh, I want to be there, I want to be there." That's what it is that somewhere along the line tells us there is happiness. Because that part wants to go and meet with its whole.

And premies, when it does, I tell you, it's beautiful. There is a river Ganges in India, which is very, very holy, and so many thousands, thousands, and thousands and thousands and thousands … mean, there is this festival that's held, and everybody goes to swim in the Ganges. You have no idea how many people come there. You have no idea.

All the Hardwar streets are completely blocked. The area just completely gets filled up. And the people dip in the water for one second; that's all, because the water is pretty cold, and there are little kids that might just drown. So what their parents do, is take their two hands and go "plop-pop". One second. There are some people who just hold their nose, go in, get out, and that's it - that's their whole trip. They travelled thousands of miles, because they think it's sacred.

But I tell you, that same river flows down and goes into that big ocean, and when it does, what's the Ganges? Nobody never knew. Just goes right into it. Big rivers, small rivers. There is no bigness in the ocean and there is no small. All of them go and merge. This is what the beauty of it is. There is nothing that you can call a gap. And then, when there is no gap, then there is no confusion, because then there is no ego. It all becomes one.

In the land, you can mark out the Ganges, you can mark out this river, you can mark out that river, but in the ocean, forget it. You can't mark out Ganges, this river, that river, Mississippi - can't! There is no way. There is no gap left. It's all one.

There, where we want to merge, it's all love. It's all one, and it's all love. This is what we want to reach, premies. So, same old story. Goes back again to you. Completely up to you. Thank you very much.

That same Knowledge that is within me is within inside of you. Maybe I bug you all the time. But this is the reason. Because I know you can get there.

You originated from that point, and you have to go back there. That is where completeness is. This is where you always wanted to be, and this is where you are going to be.
