The Unbroken Garland

On July 19, 1966 Satgurudev Shri Hans Ji Maharaj, "Shri Maharaj Ji," left his mortal frame. He had spent his life spreading the Knowledge and love of God throughout India, walking from village to village, while word of his greatness spread until his followers were numbered in millions. For those who knew and loved him, it was a day of mourning; each felt he had lost a beloved teacher and a friend.

While everyone else was weeping, his youngest son, Shri Sant Ji Maharaj (the present Guru Maharaj Ji), then eight years old, did not. Everyone else felt Shri Maharaj Ji had gone. Sant Ji did not. He played quietly on the swing at his father's home in Dehra Dun. He spoke to certain close disciples and soothed their sorrow, making them aware that Shri Maharaj Ji was still very much present in his own young form.

Mahatma Sampuranand relates an incident that occurred in the later years of Shri Maharaj Ji's life. While in Kashmir, Shri Maharaj Ji dictated a letter to his family in Dehra Dun. He closed by saying, "Give my blessings to Bal Bhagwan Ji, Bhole Ji and Raja Ji (his three older sons), and my prostrations to Sant Ji." When Mahatma Sampuranand read those words, he understood that Sant Ji was to succeed Shri Maharaj Ji in the line of Perfect Masters.

There were other indications previous to the death of Shri Maharaj Ji that Sant Ji was destined to carry the Knowledge of Self to the world. We see photographs of the Holy Family taken during the life of Shri Maharaj Ji where Sant Ji is the only son garlanded like his father, and stands directly in front of Shri Maharaj Ji. There are film clippings in which Shri Maharaj Ji looks at the six-yearold Guru Maharaj Ji with such intensity, and transmits such power, that we feel something very special is taking place. And on July 29, 1966 in these discourses delivered by Guru Maharaj Ji and members of his Holy Family, we are witness to the greatest mystery of life itself, the transmission of the ultimate spiritual authority of Perfect Master from one form into another.

There is no explanation for how a Perfect Master transmits his authority, or to whom. It seems from these discourses that even the members of the Holy Family witnessed the miracle of his continuous presence with awe, reverence and even surprise. We have examples of Perfect Spiritual Masters passing their authority to other disciples, and even in some cases to their sons, but as Guru Maharaj Ji explained in a recent interview on the NBC Today Show, "It doesn't have to be one of his sons. It can be one of his disciples. It can be anyone on the street. But it has to be with the blessings and the grace of the Perfect Master, the living Perfect Master." All we do know is that the spiritual crown of Satguru previously worn by Shri Maharaj Ji was passed to his youngest son. On July 29,1966 Guru Maharaj Ji began his work of spreading the Knowledge of the Self to every corner of the world.

Who is the Perfect Master? It is said that only through the living Perfect Master can humanity receive the practical experience of inner peace. In these four discourses delivered by Guru Maharaj Ji and members of his Holy Family in July, 1966, it is stressed again and again that without the Knowledge of the Perfect Master it is absolutely impossible to have peace.

How do we know who is the Perfect Master of the time? The only indication of a Perfect Master is the Knowledge that he reveals. If those who receive his Knowledge directly experience the source of peace within, they can rightly claim to have met the Perfect Master.

In the history of western civilization we have little or no record of a continuing line of Perfect Masters. Before Christ there are records of but a few Masters who revealed the Knowledge of God, prophets such as Moses, Krishna, Rama and Lord Buddha. After Christ, we hear of only a few men who spread the Word of God, men like Mohammed and Guru Nanak. We know who was the Perfect Master before Shri Maharaj Ji, we may even be able to trace the line of succession back a few more generations. But eventually we lose the thread of succession to time. And because our history books go blank, theologians and laymen alike assume that Jesus or Mohammed, or some other prophet whose work they know of, is the ONLY or BEST messenger of God. We have had no evidence previously to lead us to believe otherwise.

But now we are witness to that moment in time when the spiritual authority of Perfect Master is transmitted from one Master to the next.

We don't know what really happened when Christ left his body. We don't know the successor of Lord Krishna, Buddha or any of the other Perfect Masters in our history. But we do know what happened after the life of Shri Maharaj Ji. We do know who was empowered after him to reveal the Knowledge of Truth.

The disciples of Shri Maharaj Ji were caught in that same doubt and fear we all face when we do not know what lies ahead, wondering who is there to continue giving living spiritual guidance. We see the miracle of their sorrow turning to joy as they realize the Perfect Master lives on in the young form of Guru Maharaj Ji, who sits before them proclaiming that he will unite all religions and establish peace in the world.

We have for the first time actual records of the phenomenon as it takes place. The unbroken succession of Perfect Masters continues as it has from time immemorial, documented for our benefit in July, 1966, at Prem Nagar Ashram, Hardwar, in the foothills of the Himalayas.

The discourses which we are printing here for the first time, were given by the family of the late Perfect Master, Shri Hans Ji Maharaj, at the time when he transmitted his authority as Perfect Master to his youngest son, the present Guru Maharaj Ji.

But now we are witness to that moment in time when the spiritual authority of Perfect Master is transmitted from one Master to the next.

Shri Sant Ji Maharaj, July 29, 1966

This is not a day of merry-making because the night of the 19th, at three o'clock, Guru Maharaj Ji left his body. But I feel that Guru Maharaj Ji is alive and always will remain alive.

So many times, Guru Maharaj Ji has come to this world. There have been many, many Perfect Masters and each one has revealed the very same Knowledge. You have not understood. Each Divine Incarnation has gone away and still you have not realized the Knowledge he brought. Now, if you want to know the Truth, then get that Supreme Knowledge, because this body will be destroyed one day. You have got to get Knowledge as soon as possible, otherwise the shop will be closed. This Knowledge will grow more and more expensive; it will not remain cheap.

Today you people think that Guru Maharaj Ji is not here. Again you have not understood his true form, but I will explain everything to you. If you do not realize God within, then Guru Maharaj Ji, the Perfect Master, will manifest again and again in this world and you will see him in the form you like.

When a Perfect Master comes, he cannot be bound by the rule of government, but we know that if we have to explain this to the world, people will not understand. Even when people of this world see a true saint, they do not recognize him. Every time the Perfect Master comes, some people think that he is true, some think that he is false.

If a man sends his son to steal, that man wants to benefit himself and harm another. If a person thinks that his own nation and government are good and others are evil, he will kill people for that nation. That is why saints are not ruled by this world or by its governments. He who wants pleasure will give pain to others; he who wants profit will think of giving loss to someone else.

Who is there who can give happiness to all? There may be people here who have not received Knowledge. What does Guru Maharaj Ji give when he gives you the Knowledge? Who can tell me the meaning of the Word? He who cannot tell me its meaning, I do not consider him to be learned.

These days, so many people are following different religions. But a day is going to come when all of the religions created by men are going to finish and only one true religion will remain. These days religion has become a play. In the name of religion, people create confusion and spread falsehoods, but remember! If a man had brought something with him to this world, then he could have taken it back with him. But no, he did not bring anything with him. He did not bring that Knowledge with him; what Knowledge did he have at the time of birth?

If man had brought the Knowledge with him, then he would have taken the Knowledge and gone directly to the Kingdom of Heaven. But no, a man must find that Knowledge of God. This is the highest religion. Time should not be wasted.

Saint Kabir said, "You spend the night in sleeping, and the day you waste in eating. This life is priceless but you are spending it as if worth a penny." Today, I tell you the same thing but still you do not listen. If you do not value the true realization of God, then how can you say that Maharaj Ji should come back? Guru Maharaj Ji has left his body of five elements and the time will keep passing.

At this time, how many premies are there that think that Maharaj Ji is only in the form of a photograph? But for me, it is not that way. I understand that as quickly as a king draws his sword Guru Maharaj Ji can be manifested in front of you. He surely can be manifested, but you are like a hot iron which will not let the blacksmith take rest. When Guru Maharaj Ji comes, then the sword will be made.

You can all see Guru Maharaj Ji sitting in front of you in the form of a photograph, but you should understand that he is even more near to us. He is omnipresent. He is present in this photograph and he is within you in your own heart. Guru Maharaj Ji is present in this body.

"Great saints live with their disciples. Why should they live in heaven? If the devotee wants, the Lord can rnanifest at any time. God dwells where the devotee lives."

I want to ask the Pandits, these hypocrites, if they chant mantras while asleep. Guru Maharaj Ji has revealed to us the Holy Name, that is like air inside and outside of us. Now, Guru Maharaj Ji has dissolved himself in the air. That Word, that Name disappears in the air and you bring that air into you when you breathe, waking or sleeping.

Today, Guru Maharaj Ji has to take your test. However you see me, I accept it. Guru Maharaj Ji has to take your test; even I have to take it. All great saints have suffered your test. You should not waste time. And how should you not waste time?

Today, you have got this human body. It is most difficult to get it. The scriptures say, "With great luck we are born in human form. It is difficult even for the gods to attain the human body. It is the only temple suitable for spiritual endeavors." To use it properly, we have to know that means which is the gateway to liberation.

First of all, we have to realize why we have got this human form. We have to know why we are alive. We should not arouse Guru Maharaj Ji's anger because we want only to see him all the time. When you are in the presence of Guru Maharaj Ji, time stops, death does not exist.

Guru Maharaj Ji is the creator of the whole universe. Still the world gives him pain and will keep giving him pain. He said, "Let me rest at least for two days." You did not let him rest, but called him back to you. I feel that Guru Maharaj Ji is here and is giving satsang through my body. After all, what is in me? I have only flesh, nerves, blood and bones. My body does not have anything more. But I have got the same soul as Guru Maharaj Ji. Guru Maharaj Ji is within me. He is in everyone. He is present in everyone and also in me. So realize that Guru Maharaj Ji is himself speaking. Do not look only at my body.

In the body, there are bones, flesh, blood, nerves, veins and such; what else is there? The same thing is in a dog; the same thing is in a cat. If you see only my body, then I am a dog, I am a cat. The cat meows. So, likewise, I keep speaking. And if you call me a dog, then I am a dog. When I speak loudly, then I bark very loudly. Dogs keep barking.

If you call me a snake, I am also a snake. When a snake bites, it hurts. To some people, my preaching is hurting like an arrow and to some it is not hurting.

to do with us. If you have nothing to do with what Guru Maharaj Ji is speaking, then you may go.

So the thing is that after coming into this world, you and I have to meditate and peace will come from that meditation. All seers, all saints, all Masters have gotten peace by meditating upon the Holy Name. But I want to ask the people of today why they do not want to worship God. It does not cost even a penny.

We have nothing else to know but one thing. Sit in a peaceful place and do meditation. Eat and meditate and listen to satsang. You cannot meditate when on one side the child is calling to you, "Mother, mother!" So we should do meditation in a quiet place. You can get peace only through meditation. If there is a battery-powered toy, until you put the battery in the toy, it cannot move. If a toy car has a key, it will not start moving by itself. The main thing is the key. So when we wind the true thing in ourselves, than we move. The child is born; if the mother does not give him anything to eat when he is hungry, then he will remain hungry. Only when he is four or six years old will he start eating by himself.

Our work is to do meditation. How to do meditation? (He sits in meditation and demonstrates how.)

If you don't know where the shop for toys is, then how will you buy toys? The toy shop is here. It is in this hall and the only salesman is Guru Maharaj Ji. You take from him and the price is only that when meditation is shown to you, you must do it.

I want that whatever faith you have, you should take care of that faith. In this age, what do the Christians do? They have very big halls where they go and pray. Christ spread the Knowledge of God in his time; what was that Knowledge?

In many places, temples have been constructed, but in each temple the worshippers see the statue of only a single Saint. When they come and listen to satsang, then we say to them, "The God you worship is our God also."

When Knowledge of God is spread through the whole world, there will be one religion. The Knowledge will be spread through mahatmas, because, without these great souls, it cannot be done. You cannot prepare the lamp without oil. Without oil, it will not burn. The spreading of the Knowledge is beneficial for all. That is why we should not waste time. We have to give even our last breath for the sake of others.

You can practice propagating this Knowledge and see for yourself. When Guru Maharaj Ji was here, what did he do? He spread the Knowledge to everyone and such work he did that it will never end. Everyone kept taking from his endless treasure. He told me, "I came for this purpose only. Now you have to do my work."

I will unite all religions. I only need the grace of Guru Maharaj Ji. We will become such a multitude that we will fill every hall and every temple.

Guru Maharaj Ji is in front of us. I have got in me the God who is omnipresent God. Guru Maharaj Ji is within my heart and is everywhere. It is truly said that, "In this world, meet everyone with great love. You never know in what form God comes to meet you."

And it is said, "Who sows thorns for you, sow for him flowers; you will have flowers upon flowers in return but he will have only thorns."

Our treasure will keep increasing. But if you have got the true thing then it does not mean that you have to become a Guru yourself and start giving Knowledge to others. It means that you should bring people to the mahatmas. See, if the straws are joined together, the stick is made. In the same way, if all are unified then how much strength will remain.

So brothers, my meaning is that the Name which Guru Maharaj Ji has revealed to you should be meditated upon. I did not really want to say anything. I only know this, that we must all meditate.

Shri Mata Ji speaks, July 31, 1966

Dear premies, What can I speak? I put some broken words before you. At this time, our condition is like a bird which flutters without his feathers. I am fluttering just like that. But I have full faith that one who is pained will someday get happiness. By seeing your good behavior, I think that if you continue this way, I will know that my Maharaj is present.

This is the time for our test. If you succeed, we will be liberated forever. Maharaj Ji used to say that one day he would take such a test that a great hue and cry would be created. I beseeched him, "Don't take such a test. The people of this dark age are not fit for it. They are so weak. If you take such a test, they will break and fall down." But it is happening now.

"He told me, 'These children of yours are brave. Before them the sun and moon will fade. Their light will prevail over all the world and they will attain fame'."

When I saw the dead body of Maharaj in the car, I did not believe it. I said to myself, if this is the condition of the wife of a divine person, then what will happen in this world? Then I became patient. I said, "My husband will never quit me and pass away, for he always told me I was dearer to him than his life breath." I could not believe that he had gone from me. I always took him as a divine person, but after all, I was his wife, he was my husband.

When I saw, I did not believe. When I looked at him, his face smiled. I said, "Place him on the cot and massage him." There was warmth in his chest. However, he had told me fifteen days ago, "See, remain alert. I have to leave this body. It has become much diseased. I have done great propagation with this body. My mother died during my childhood; I was disgusted with this world when I was eight years old. Then I took much work upon this body. I have ceaselessly propagated Knowledge with this body; so let me quit it."

I said, "No, you are very dear to me. If you do not live, who will give love to these children? Our very sun will set. Darkness will prevail." But Maharaj replied, "No, no, these children of yours are brave. Before them, the sun and the moon will fade. Their light will prevail over all the world and they will attain fame. I often warned the people of India, but they put great blame on me. They even thought of killing me. I cannot bear this pain."

I used to avoid it with a smile. I would say, "Please, don't talk like this. You will not leave your body. Why should you leave it? What disease do you have?" And, in fact, there was no disease.

How much holy discourse he used to give you; how much he used to dance; and how much he used to play with you! But now is the time of our test. If, in his absence, you entertain malice or speak against him, then what will be your condition? Except for your sake, he never cared for his body. He gave satsang, for it is our duty to wake up the people of this dark age. He did not even care for the children. He never cared for us. We have reached this ill fate in our life. Tell us, who else was ours except him? He was our very life.

After giving the massage, I called three good doctors. They said, "Mother, please, place him on the ground. Now, there is nothing." I said, "This cannot happen!" Meanwhile, people requested me to go away saying, "We want to do something." I went away. I had full faith that since Maharaj Ji has spread so much Knowledge, there would be at least one

disciple who could come forward and make me retain my auspiciousness. "Oh, wake him up forever so this hue and cry may disappear!" There was no such disciple.

A thought came from within that if I, his wife, cannot be of help, what can other people do? Then I saw a photograph of Guru Maharaj Ji and I started crying bitterly before it. I said, "This is my condition today. What benefit have you gotten by bringing this calamity to us? What happiness have you achieved by destroying this garden? I will also not let you rest in peace."

Then a voice came from within, "Why are you crying? My soul is immortal. This body of mine was diseased and it was necessary to change it." Now if I talk about him and his glories, you will not believe me. But my heart knows it.

When the people came and told me they could not help, I became disappointed and started to faint. I said, "Don't take him away for three days. He does not belong only to you and me, he is for the whole world. Let all come and be with him one last time." But nobody agreed to this, and a car was prepared to take him away.

At that time, such a feeling came to me from within that I threw myself over many people that they might let me go with him. All the people caught me and dragged me away saying, "Don't do this. It is not right for you to go with him. You have to look after the children. Be patient." My heart did not give witness to it, but then little Sant (the present Guru Maharaj Ji) started dancing in my eyes.

Maharaj Ji used to say that great persons always live in difficulties. Many troubles fall on them; they bear these troubles and therefore people have great regard for them. Then I remembered the whole Ramayana, that Rama instead of being annointed for the throne had to go to the forest. King Dhirsthra was to give Rama the throne, but he died. So many incidents came to my mind. I became patient, remembering that I was living in the age of great darkness, and such terrible things had happened in earlier ages. I had to meet my fate. Many thoughts came to my mind. At last when I told the people to take me to Hardwar, nobody took me.

The very house then started crying as if someone had left it. It had become deserted. All the gardens looked deserted. I remained patient and thought,

"Wherever he may have gone, if the soul is immortal, he is with us. When days of trouble come, one day the days of happiness will also come." He used to say, "In previous births, who were your children?" He used to speak to me of everybody.

Shortly before he died, I said that I was going to Mussourie. He said, "I will also go." "You will have trouble on account of the cold," I cautioned. He said, "No, no, I will certainly come. I have to tell something important to Satyapal (Shri Bal Bhagwan Ji). I will make him understand."

Maharaj Ji was alone with the child for a long time. He returned home that night and with great happiness said tome, "Whatever incomplete works I have, my eldest son Satyapal will complete them." I said, "Where have you to go?" He replied, "I have become much diseased."

On Sunday there was a program of holy discourses with the premies. He said to Sant, "Sant, start your work." Sant came forward. He has been fond of giving holy discourse since his early childhood.

Maharaj Ji used to say that great saints live with their disciples. And it is true. Why should they live in heaven? If the devotee wants it, the Lord can manifest at any time. God dwells where the devotee lives.

All dear premies should live at this time with love. So long as Maharaj Ji lived, he used to watch you, whatever you did. It was your wish. Whatever instructions you received were given by Maharaj Ji, and only he had to give instructions. Now he is not living. But he is taking our test and he is with us today. We have no other goal except to remain patient. This is the time for patience. When you give me your support, then patience comes to me automatically.

All premies should live together with love and unity, and you should spread Knowledge. See how much he labored for you! If you will not abide by his instructions, it will be bad for you, and my heart will be pained. Where is he now that was living as my husband? It is you who count now.

I am greatly encouraged by seeing you. Since yesterday, I have not been able to weep. I felt, "You are not the only person to cry. Everybody is crying." This feeling I felt in my heart. When I came here yesterday, I heard the holy discourse of Sant. I felt that Guru Maharaj Ji was speaking from within. At first I wondered, what would Sant say? Would people laugh? But my reputation was in his hands and I was saved from shame.

I do not know what was in my mind and what thoughts I had before coming here. I cannot say. But one who brings such a plight gives bright days also. My soul was satisfied to listen to the holy discourse of Sant and to see his beauty. I felt as if Maharaj Ji was saying, "I am that very one speaking. It was an old body and perishable, why do you weep for that?"

All premies should unite to spread the Knowledge. Mothers should also participate. Mothers are such that if their child renounces the world, they look down on him. But Maharaj Ji himself has shown, "How pretty was my body but one day that also perished." One day everyone has to leave this world. Therefore it is wonderful if mothers give good teachings to their children and let them come forward for the propagation of Knowledge. India will be greatly benefited. Those mothers have always glorified India, who gave birth to such brave and great persons that India is recognized as a holy land. But the present attitude of our mothers in this dark age is such that they don't want their children to become saints. Look, a lot of people are requesting us to send them mahatmas. Where can we send them from? We can only send one when one of you becomes a mahatma. We can only send a mahatma when you help.

Now there is no other resort except to meditate on the Name. Meditate and have faith in Guru Maharaj Ji. His soul is with us and devotees can see him at any time they wish. Why do you weep? The ways of devotees are so peculiar. For that matter, I also wept and cried much and will be crying, for I remember him. When I remember his love there is no other recourse but to weep. But no, why do we weep? He has come again among us. Since yesterday I am much astonished, what should I say? No one would believe me.

Yesterday and the day before some people came who had never seen Guru Maharaj Ji, but they came immediately when he left his body. I asked why they came. "Have you come to be in his presence?" Then I went away and cried before the photograph because such people have started coming. I felt as if he was saying, "Many such people will come to you." I became patient and such a reply came out of me before them that I myself was surprised.

So just as you have been doing the work of spreading Knowledge till now, you have to carry on in the future. Take such a vow that whenever there is a satsang program, do not take it to be the work of someone else. Think that it is your own work and the work of Guru Maharaj Ji. Do it with the understanding that if the program is poorly done it is not your bad name, it is the bad name of Guru Maharaj Ji. Don't do such a work that people may laugh afterward. Always glorify the Holy Name. The followers and the devotees have always uplifted the Name of God.

Now I cannot speak. Whatever broken words I could utter, I have spoken. At this time, I myself am distressed. The point is that you people have handed over the work of Maharaj Ji, who was the organizer and the patron of the mission, to me. So if all of you together will help me in the same manner that you have been helping him, I honestly tell you that I will carry on the work in a similar way, as Maharaj Ji has been doing until now. I have to fulfill all his desires. If I get even a little help from you, I will in every way make an effort to fulfill the desires of my Lord.

Shri Hans Ji Maharaj Father of Prem Rawat Mahatmas and dear premies, Please sit in peace; listen and see. The first thing is that Guru Maharaj Ji is here. I say that Guru Maharaj Ji has, for some reason, clouded your wisdom. Do you think that he would leave you? I see him exactly the same with these very eyes, but your wisdom is changed and has turned your mind in such a way that you think the last ceremony is performed. Guru Maharaj ii is here.

Would Guru Maharaj Ji force you to realize God within by leaving you? What must you have been thinking? No such test has been taken yet and never will it be taken. Therefore do not think that he is not present. Your mind is so much changed, such a curtain is over your eyes, that he is before you but you don't understand. He is within you and outside you, but your mind is confused. I know that Guru Maharaj Ji is here. He is in very subtle form and very apparent too.

I will tell you what happened at Dehra Dun after Guru Maharaj Ji left his body. I was sleeping. On one side of me Mata Ji was sleeping and on the other side a cabinet was standing. On that side, I suddenly felt that there was a man. I

The world is like an ocean in which the Holy Name is the boat."

looked closely, wondering what this was all about. Then I saw that Maharaj Ji was there. I turned around and Mata Ji was still sleeping so I looked again to the other side and saw that Maharaj Ji was there. I talked with Guru Maharaj Ji about certain matters.

So Guru Maharaj Ji is here. He has not gone anywhere. If you want him to come before you then I will reveal him to you. You'll be glad to know that I will give proof and make him apparent tonight. I will give proof at 9:00. How will you see Maharaj Ji before you? I will give you proof how you will see.

(Having said this, such a splendid thing was shown by Sant Ji that everyone sprang up with ecstasy and the pen of the writer stopped. It was a wonderful scene: now Sant Ji Maharaj put on Guru Maharaj Ji's crown and Mahatma Gurucharnanand put a tilak on his forehead. Mata Ji, Bal Bhagwan Ji, Raja Ji, Bhole Ji, Didi Ji and other people prostrated before Sant Ji and adorned him with a garland.)

When a man leaves the body or when the god of death takes him away, his body is left behind. But Guru Maharaj Ji is present before you, he has not gone anywhere.

(Sant Ji, in a happy mood, garlanded Mata Ji. At that time there was such a sweet smile at seeing one another that the Holy Family could not meet each other's eyes. But neither did their eyes tire of beholding one another. Each one was stealing glances at the other. The eyes of Sant Ji clearly showed to Mata Ji, "See what I was before and what I have now become." What a wonderful pleasure it was and what a great splendor.)

If you think that Guru Maharaj Ji is gone, your mind is confused. Otherwise, how could I have talked to him? Tomorrow I will show you what power I have brought to this world with me. Just as Prahlad manifested God by the power of meditation, I will also manifest Guru Maharaj Ji before you by the power of meditation.

Now Shri Bal Bhagwan will give you satsang. This has been my desire for a long time. If he will deliver his holy discourse, my first desire will be fulfilled. My other wishes I will then put before Mata Ji. The rest of the program will commence at 9:00 p.m. and then opportunity will be given for prostration. Now Bal Bhagwan Ji will try to fulfill my desire.

(That night Sant Ji danced as his father so often danced, to the delight of his devotees. All were amazed to see his every gesture and movement to be that of his father, Shri Maharaj Ji.)

Just as when the binding of a book becomes dirty it needs changing, in the same way the body of Guru Maharaj Ji had become much diseased. He desired to change it and he changed his body according to his desire. Maharaj Ji used to say that nothing in the world is ever destroyed. Modern scientists also say that nothing is destroyed because the body is made of five elements and goes back into these five elements. The soul is immortal and imperishable. It never goes anywhere, but only departs from one body and then a new body is created.

When Guru Maharaj Ji was with us, his children, he used to make us understand. Many times he would say, "You are like their father. The father looks after the sons; their burden is borne by the father. The burden of all these is on you. Look after them properly, let them grow as they like."

About Sant he would say, "Let him become a Saint." He used to say about Raja that he will rule, let him become a Raja. He had a little concern about Bhole. He used to say that Bhole is overjoyed and will always be innocent. Let him remain overjoyed.

Today Sant Ji has given you excellent satsang. I became very happy to listen to it.

Guru Maharaj Ji gave us good lessons, but we could not fully understand because we believed in our own wisdom and ran after our own mind. But today he has played this game so that we may understand him fully. He has gone from our midst and has made us understand that nothing goes with a man after his death. Guru Maharaj Ji had hundreds of thousands of disciples, but they did not go with him. Even his sons, and our mother, did not go with him. Nothing goes with one at the time of death.

So many times Guru Maharaj Ji would remind us that many important people died. Lal Bahadur Shastri was the Prime Minister. Nobody went with him when he died. Now Guru Maharaj Ji himself has gone, giving us an example. We must learn from him, we must have faith in his words. Listen, faith is everything. We must have faith in the Holy Name.

In Mussourie once, Guru Maharaj Ji took me aside and made me eat mangoes.

"I will unite all the religions. I only need the grace of Guru Maharaj Ji.
We will become such a multitude that we will fill every hall and every temple."

He made me eat many, many mangoes. At one point I said, "I have taken enough!"; but he said, "Take some more." He made me eat for a long time and he talked to me. He told me that when his mother died he was eight years old. "When my father also died," he said to me, "I did not go with him." He used to explain to me in many ways, but he never said, "I am going." Somehow, I had understood it, but I never imagined he would really do so. I was anxious about what would happen when Maharaj Ji left us.

But dear premies, it gives me great peace of mind to see you. You have faith in the Holy Name. You know that Guru Maharaj Ji is inside you and can never leave. Can a boat ever move without the boatman? The world is like an ocean in which the Holy Name is the boat. That boat has been given to us by Maharaj Ji. He left his physical body having given us the Holy Name.

All the so-called religious preachers of the world do not know the Holy Name. They read scriptures, but they do not understand even a single verse. What is that Name which is residing in the hearts of all? They say that it is to be known after death. How will you know it in the next life? It is while you are in a human form that you must realize the Name of God.

I am very glad that Sant Ji has explained to you, and even to wicked people like us, how Maharaj Ji has not left us. We wept, we did not know. Understanding was given by Sant Ji. Maharaj Ji used to say that when ignorance in a man is destroyed, unrighteousness will disappear. Unrighteousness does not disappear by killing a man, but by destroying the ignorance within him.

The Lord says to Arjuna in the Gita that of all the Yogic practices, I give you sovereign Knowledge. Maharaj Ji has given us the supreme Knowledge and we could not offer anything in return. He has given us an invaluable diamond. In Bombay he said that if a man loses one diamond, how much of an uproar he makes. But the value of the diamond which is within you, you have never realized.

How many times Maharaj Ji used to show us his divine dance! If you sing a good devotional song Shri Sant Ji Maharaj, being overpowered by love, will dance as Shri Maharaj Ji used to dance, because Sant Ji is none other than Guru Maharaj Ji himself. I beseech Shri Sant Ji to tell us how innocent people like us who have no love can make him dance. We pray to him that he will show us his divine play as Guru Maharaj Ji used to show us.
