SALUTATIONS AT THE LOTUS FEET OF LOVE
Maharaji's Birthday Satasang 1971
Guru Maharaj Ji
Satsang by Shri Satguru Maharaj Ji
During the Celebration of His Birthday December 10, 1971.
Prem Nagar Ashram, Hardwar
INTRODUCTION
Guru Maharaj Ji's birthday celebration in India on December 10 was full of fun and enthusiasm. All the Westerners dressed in home-made costumes depicting characters from all levels of life and fantasy. In the evening a program of songs and plays and dances was presented to Guru Maharaj Ji, a program so long that it had to be continued the next evening. On the second evening of entertainment one very notable dance was performed called the "Woodcutter's Dance" and portrayed a man's search for truth. Early in the dance, the searcher refuses the help of a saint who offers to lead him to truth. He scoffs and says he will get to truth on his own. The dark forest of illusion proceeds to drag him down until he is in total despair, at which time the Satguru appears, thrusting back the darkness of illusion and leading the seeker to spiritual freedom.
The program that second night ended with a Mexican pinata ceremony. A huge and colorful papier-mache fly, symbolizing our minds, was hung, full of candy. After much pleading from every person present, Guru Maharaj Ji final ly consented to being blindfolded, spun around, and given the stick with which to knock the pinata down. Five times he hit the fly, squarely and powerfully, knocking it to the ground. He then returned to his seat on the stage, and to transfixed audience, gave this very beautiful satsang.
This fly was broken. In the same way the mind has to be broken. First of all, man will have to close his carnal out-doors. He has to beat hard with his devotion - that is the stick. And with his devotion and meditation he has to kill this crazy damn fly. So, the same way, mind is too strong, you know, it is very big. To him it seems very pretty but then, of course, it is a fly. It is no more good. Same way, the minds today of this Kali Yuga are very strong. Very, very strong.
We have two examples. The example of the fly is not very clear. This drama that was just played before you is a very good example of the place of a human man today. In the middle part of that play, that Holy Man comes to teach him, to show him the path. But he is too proud of himself. He wants to do it himself. He thinks that he is all in all. And he thinks that eventually he will be able to find the way.
But the will of this world is so strong, it seems so much, that it is something that you cannot bear. And the Holy Man leaves, and you are lost. And then these evil powers start acting upon you, and this maya, which is greatly clouded, which is itself darkness, comes and puts a black sheet over you. Now where to go? Where to go? Where is the path?
You light the torch, okay, you light the torch; the torch is okay. But you have something tied on your eyes. You cannot see where the light of the torch is going. You are standing on the path, okay, but you cannot see the path because your eyes have been tightly tied up. Where to go now?
When satguru comes, and by the satsang, this maya is broken. The man is disconnected from all the powers. And now he is only attached, now he is only one, now his determination is one - and that is to meet with the sea. The rivers flow to merge with their source, and that is the sea. The sea was their source and from the sea they were taken up by the sun in the clouds. But they eventually went to the mountains, showered the rain, and now they are so much, so fast; they are running to meet and embrace their source; nothing in the world can stop them. They topple over their edges, they go into the houses; one direction - just to meet the sea. No determination, no aim in life; just to meet with the whole who was their source, who is their source, and who will be their source. Who exists, who was existing, and who will exist. Who never dies, who has never died, and will never die. Who is forever, was forever, and who will be forever. Who was complete, is complete, and will be complete. He is perfect, He was perfect, and He will be perfect. Nothing in the world can touch His personality and break it into pieces. Anything you take in the world - this maya and this darkness - is too thin for Him.
His personality is great. His rays are so strong that they cross the bones, they cross the skin, and they shine out. His light, which is His personality, is so powerful that is crosses the whole body, it crosses the whole maya, it crosses the whole world. But it can't be broken. His divine divinity is so strong, so strong, that I've got no words to describe that divinity. A devotee is sitting in America; guru is sitting in India. But both have a very powerful connection.
So, remember, we have to find it - that guide, that person who is perfect …w ho is ours and we are His. We have to find Him, to whom we belong; we have to find Him, and get together, and be one with Him. Because if we are two, we have duality. Wherever there is duality there is darkness. Wherever there is darkness there is frustration. Wherever there is frustration, man is ego; man is completely surrounded and he is put into prison by the chains of his mind. So remember, we are His part who has manifested as a guru, and has come into this earth, and now we have to be one with Him. We have to completely merge and make our souls one with Him because He is perfect. And once we merge with Him, we will also be perfect.
Nothing, then, in the world, whether it is our mind, or maybe it is the Kali darkness, nothing can stop it. We will be like that Ganges. That river, it flows, flows, flows; it does not feel its importance. Because the Ganges is highly respected in Rishikesh, the Ganges never stops there because it is being very highly worshipped. Cows are drinking the water but the Ganges never stops there because cows are drinking the water.
Have you seen the tongas here? They take the horses and put two leather strips before their eyes; have you seen? On the side they cannot see. They cannot see anything. They can just see their road which is their determination, their path on which they have to run, and run, and run until their master stops them. They are not allowed to see anywhere.
In the same way, we have to be tied into the one cord of love. Because you see, there are flowers in the garden; there is string with which to tie it; there is every-
page 27

thing, but there is no garland. But once the flowers come and are united in a string, they form garland.
And there is an autobiography written by Kalidasa, "Flowers," and this autobiography says, "O Lord, ever since You made me, I have had only one wish, that please unite me with all my friends into one string of love and put me around Your neck, so that I may be the most fortunate to feel Your divine personality." This is the autobiography of that flower.
So remember, we have to be united under one string of love. Mind is so strong that when you are talking, it overweighs, it overcomes. But don't be frustrated by it because if the Lord is true and the knowledge is true, then nothing is there. It is only a black shadow which is being cast by the moon, which itself is taking light from the sun, and is only there for six hours. After a little while it will be off and then there'll be no darkness.
The darkness has to come because there is the object. But is it real? No. So remember that we all have to unite into one cord. Not two or three or four or five. And all the human beings that have been created and are living in this world, or on any other planet, have to be united in one cord. Only one cord. And this cord is love and that perfect love is only gained and is only given by the perfect master of the time. None else is able to give that love to you.
You think that your wife, your husband, your children will give you love? No. It is the love of selfishness. Baby loves mother because mother gives him milk, but not because they have a connection. No, just because of selfish love. In the same way, you love everything because of selfishness. But you love guru without selfishness. It is pure and perfect love; it is that love which cannot be disturbed by mind at all.
So be perfect, be in love, do meditation, run smoothly, have a good life; enjoy yourselves: Be one with Him who has created you, who had created you, and who will create you. Because this is what you have to find in the world. There are many paths. Many, many paths. One is blue, one is red, one is green. All seem beautiful. But there is one path which we hardly can look at because it is so bright. People who are really people, people who are really humans, walk on it. And people who are not humans but are cowards walk on the green, red, yellow paths. But the man who walks on that bright shining path always gets brightness. And God handles him, and he handles the Lotus Feet of Satgurudev.
I'll explain you this. Lord Ram governed Hanuman, but Hanuman goverened the Lotus Feet of Ram.
Because Hanuman did so much meditation and tied the Lord in love, so much love, that whenever Hanuman wanted,
Ram was ready to go. Whenever the Lord comes, He is hungry of love. He wants nothing. He has created money, He
has created gold, He has created silver, He has created diamonds, He has created the whole universe. Whatever He
wants is no surprise to the Lord. It is not a surprise for Him because He has created it. But the only thing that can be
surprise for Him is your love, that is sincere, that is from your heart, which comes right from the depths of your heart,
which shows light, affection, devotion, and real love which is perfect - perfect and lasting love.
So that love God requires. Nothing else. God created love, no doubt, but He distributed it. And no love is left. And God is only hungry of one thing now. He wants to collect love, love, love, and love. That's the only thing He wants. But those people are only able to give love who are determined to shed their forehead on His Lotus Feet. Nobody else. People who have pride go to that imperfection from where they never return. But the guy who is determined to shed his forehead on the Lotus Feet goes to that perfection from where he never returns.
So brothers, unite into one love; be one, be perfect, be accurate. Accurate for the love, attentive for the satsang, active for the service, and this will make you perfect. Because perfection is what imperfection wants. Imperfect are you and you need your Lord because He is perfect. Perfection never looks for imperfection; but imperfection every time looks for perfection. So one devotee prays to the Lord, and says, "Lord, don't forget me. For You we are many, but for me You are only one. If I get lost You have got the others who give You that much love. But in my life if You get lost You are the only one who can give me love. So Lord, keep this attachment so firm that the sun may be disturbed, fire may break into pieces, and the sky may break, the earth may be moved from there, but this cord of love may not be moved and belong forever and ever and ever." Even if the sun breaks, no matter. But this cord of love should be forever.

All the saints of India, even Jesus Christ, even Mohammed, have emphasized love because love is the
greatest cord in the world that can unite you and the Lord, Who is perfect, perfect for all.
And he who goes to Him and asks Him for His love, He never hesitates to give this love to him. Maybe he is the lowest person in the world; maybe he is the highest person in the world. The Lord is the embodiment of love and you must realize Him. Not only realize Him, but be one with Him; because He can create you as many times as you like. So be careful with the golden opportunity He has given you. And don't be confused with the hypnotic shadows of the mind. The mind is creating doubts in you , and you are getting frustrated. Once you get frustrated, remember friends, you will not be able to return again. Don't be frustrated. Don't look anywhere; just look at your destination which you have to complete. Don't look anywhere else.
This is your destination. Don't be confused. Confusion is for those who don't know this knowledge. But once a man has known this knowledge he has nothing to be confused about - because this mind is there, this mind came to man, it can even go away.
But the destination is there - the horse is hungry, the grass is on all sides, but he can only look to his destination. Maybe there is green grass filled with clover, but the horse does not look at that. He looks only at his destination and runs there. He's hungry, but it doesn't matter.
So today in this frustrated darkness in this world, only the Perfect Lord is the bright shining sun for every darkness in the world. And if you have known Him, far-out. There is nothing that can be more than That. It is the endless limit if you have known the Lord of the time. So, through the knowledge, you realize Him. This knowledge is the medium through which you realize who the Perfect Lord is. And through meditation and service we serve Him and be one with Him.
So, what I have told you just now I think is important. Maybe it is not for you. But it is very important for me. And only through this principle, only through this basic outline, can we know how to be one. This solid line of love is being carried out from centuries and centuries, ages and ages and ages.
And my guru also taught me this first of all, this thread of love, and then I was able to realize this embodiment of love. He is white, but if you will wear blue glasses, you won't be able to see Him. In this world, everywhere there is darkness. White glasses are necessary for that white, bright, shining light. And if you go to Him, He says, "Ask and it shall be given; knock and it shall be opened unto you." So, if you have asked
for knowledge, very good. Otherwise, if you have known the
knowledge, go ahead and meditate.
This is the thing which increases your love. And love increases you and makes you one with whom you have to be. It is so beautiful, so fantastic to be one with one who is perfect. Because no more are you your own. No more are there weights on your shoulders. No more are there weights on your hands. You are no more there. Yet, you are there, but there is no weight on your shoulders, there is no burden to carry. You are free.
And you are the most free person then, when you have united yourself with the Lord. To the water the sea is its goal. If the water has to be another place, it does not rest, but it runs, runs, runs, runs to be one with Him , to be one with the sea. Maybe the sea is salty, but that does not affect anything. But the water has to go and be united with it.
So meditation is the only medium through which you can increase your love, and love will spring forth and it will make you one, and finally everything will be organized.
So, I hope you will pay attention a little more closely to whatever I have said just now, because it does hold a value for a devotee, any devotee. Because, first of all, any line of spiritualism is one, one of love. But if you don't know the topic of love, then you are like a car which is perfect, but without an engine. Or let us say, if you know and if you are really eager to go towards your destination but without love, you are like the car without any tires. You cannot go. So realize your destination and be one with it because this is what the aim of the human life is. It is what has to be, must be, and was being completed. It has to be completed. This is it, you know. This is the aim of the human life that should be accomplished. No excuse for this. Because ultimately, if you don't get there, you'll be thrown into that hell from which you will never return. But once you have realized it, then everything is good for you.
O.K.? Thank you very much.
