TRUE
KNOWLEDGE

Guru Maharaj Ji was born on the 10th of December, 1957, at Hardwar in northern India. He became Perfect Master at the age of eight and began revealing Knowledge to those who came to ask.

In 1970, before an audience of over a million people assembled at India Gate, Delhi, he announced that he would soon leave his studies in order to carry his message to people around the world. Arriving in London in June 1971, Guru Maharaj Ji has continued to tour extensively since that time.

Coming to the Pacific in October 1972, Guru Maharaj Ji held a public program in Sydney Town Hall.

The following is a transcript from an interview given to Tony Ward of Channel 9 Sydney during this visit. The program was subsequently televised on 'Current Affair.'

Q: Guru Maharaj Ji, we have many religions in the world already. What can yours bring us that the others don't already bring us?

GMJ: Well you see, the problem here is, I do not preach a religion. See?

What do you preach then?

We preach the perfect and the spiritual Knowledge. No master, no saint, at his time preached any religion. Now we make religion after them. Today, what religion has brought eventually in this world is not peace, but war. Actually, religion has started from the word 'realization', and realization of God is the true religion. So as a matter of fact, I am not preaching any religion, but I am preaching this true Knowledge.

You are described as the 'bringer of peace to the world'. How are you going to do that?

As a matter of fact, I am doing that right now. Around the world this peace is being given to people. Peace is within inside of us. It's a realization that's within inside of us which we have to be revealed. We do not know it. In this human body, inside us, there is this light, there is this peace. but we do not know, because nobody has revealed us that. And I'm revealing this secrecy, I'm revealing this peace to human beings.

Well in that case, if we are to have universal peace, you really should be talking to the world leaders who govern our destinies when it's all said and done.

Well, yes, but I'm just trying it the other way round.

It'll be a long process.

Oh, well it might be, but it's going quite fast anyway.

How would you describe yourself? As a prophet, or a son of God, or what?

As a Perfect Master.

That's an ambiguous reply.

Here many people might be confused, but what Perfect

"Inside us there is this light, there is this peace, but we do not know, because nobody has revealed us that. And I'm revealing this secrecy, I'm revealing this peace."

Master means is … one who teaches you physics, you call him a physics master. Right? One who teaches you mathematics, you call him a maths master. And one who teaches you perfectness, you call him a Perfect Master. And I can teach people perfectness.

Your father founded this particular type of thought, didn't he, as you won't call it a religion. Is that correct, to say that your father founded this philosophy?

It's not even a philosophy, you see. It's a practical Knowledge that was passed to him by his own guru, by his own revealer, by his own teacher.

Now did he choose you to follow him, or did his followers choose you?

He chose me. I'm one of four brothers (they're all older than me, I'm the youngest one) but still, he had this choice before …

Does this mean that you will one day marry, and your son, perhaps your eldest son, will follow you?

No, no, no. That's not true. No. If he wanted, he could have given this power to any one of his disciples.

How did it come to you? Were you like St. Paul on the road to Damascus, suddenly infused with it, struck down? Or was it a gradual tuition during your childhood?

Well, as you know, children are rather interested to play, and I was also very interested to play, but there were these programs. lectures, of my father going around India. I used to listen to them. He used to take me there, and I used to listen to them, and finally I came to the conclusion that wherever he went he talked about God and he talked about this peace. I became interested -though my topic to be interested in was my school education, still I became interested with what he was talking about - with truth, peace and these things. I understood that there can be something greater than what I see.

At fourteen, you must be surely the world's youngest religious leader. Do you really feel equipped for the job?

What do you mean 'equipped?

Well, do you feel at fourteen years of age that you have the necessary skill and knowledge to lead your followers?

See, fourteen years doesn't teach them Knowledge. It's the Knowledge that teaches them the Knowledge. Fourteen years has got nothing to do with it. Fourteen years is fourteen years.
