Maharaji: Peace is Searching For You 2005 E109

Maharaji is energetic and frenzied at times in this speech.

It used to surprise me that Maharaji always talks as if all people are wanting to get "it" and keep thinking they'll "get it" when they're older and then they die never getting it. Then I realised, these are the people he thinks he can attract, who will believe his spiel, "receive" the Knowledge and pay their dues … regularly. The people who have it all will find him a joke

  • He says you can be absorbed in peace
  • He goes overboard shouting and flinging his arms around "You are unique!"

Maharaji: Peace is Searching For You

Maharaji, as Prem Rawat is widely known, speaks to people around the world about the possibility of finding inner peace and contentment. He started addressing audiences when he was only 3 years old. At the age of 13, he was invited to address audiences in London and Los Angeles [as Guru Maharaj Ji, The Lord of the Universe]. Since then, he has presented his message to over 6.5 million people in more than 50 countries. Speaking at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok, Thailand, he recently said, The peace that we are looking for is already in the heart. It needs to be felt and I can help you get in touch with it. Maharaji's message is more than words. People who listen to him express finding profound inspiration, a fresh perspective on life and peace within themselves.

A nice chance to be able to come together and once again visit this beautiful world of the heart. It's so incredible in one sense that we search for peace. But what if I were to tell you that the peace is searching for you? We search for tranquility. And what if I were to tell you that very actively tranquility is searching for you? Not in this outside world. This outside world is very neutral. You can create chaos and it'll be there. And you can try to create nice scenery and it'll be there. But as this world has streets and avenues, within you, in the world of your heart, there are also avenues. There are also streets. And through these streets, through these avenues, actively, peace, tranquility, joy, and all those wonderful things, love, they're searching for you. They want to find you. They know that you look, you search for them. You didn't know that they are searching for you. And in this world, it's not complicated. The avenues are rather straight. The roads are rather straight, simple. The roads are built for one and one purpose only, to give you access to where you want to go. So they sit there and meander, and they sit there and go up and down, and they go through crossings, and they go through all the stuff. It's simple. But how will they find you when you're always moving around? When you're darting off? Sometimes left, sometimes right. It's like playing a game where the two keep missing each other.

Like a string of a guitar, it needs to be tightened, and it needs to be loosened. Both. But the mystery doesn't lie in tightening, and the mystery does not lie in loosening. All the mystery lies in it, in that string, being able to produce the note that is desired. You see the player twist the key, and you think, that's it? Tighten, loosen, tighten, loosen. No. That is merely a mundane action. The miracle is, this guy is listening to this note, and going, yeah, it's getting closer, and closer, and closer. And that's it. It's got it. That. That's the mystery.

Prem Rawat 2004

That's the miracle. That's the magic. The magic in this life is to really understand, wow, peace is looking for me. I search. I know why I search. I search because I think I should. I search because I have read. That's a good thing to do. And all the while, I understand the real magic. Now let me tell you about what that is. So innate, and so fundamental, is this desire to be content. I'm there's this feeling, you see. It's a feeling. And over, as long as there has been language, and as man could write, he's tried to describe this feeling. And he called it peace, and that wasn't good enough. He knew that. Tranquility wasn't good enough. Serenity wasn't good enough. Love wasn't good enough. Joy wasn't good enough.

The power of this fundamental thirst, of this fundamental quest, the power. You must understand this. And not only must you understand this, you must give into it. Because you can't fight it. Let it conquer you. Let it come. And let it absorb you. Because that would be being absorbed in peace. Being absorbed. Absorbed. Absorbed. How? Like a drop of water hitting the ocean. It leaves the cloud and it's a drop. And the moment it hits the ocean, it's the ocean. It's no longer a drop. See how that works? Isn't that fascinating? A little drop, just a tiny little drop, dropping a few thousand feet, drop, drop, drop, drop, drop. It has an entity. It has an identity. It is a drop. It exists. It is a thing. And it's tiny. It's tiny. And it has no choice. And if the wind blows it, it moves. And the wind blows it from below, and it rises a little bit, slows down, it's fall. And then it starts again. And if the wind blows it from the right, it moves. It blows from the left, and it moves. And it is, it is the slave of every element that wants to act upon it. And then it continues falling, falling, falling, falling, falling, and then boom. And this one little magic moment, and if you have seen this, I know if you have, but when it rains and it falls on the ocean, it makes a little ripple. And then it's disappeared. It's gone. Its last mark is a little ripple, not very large, not very big, and it's been absorbed.

I know about you, but that's what I want. To be absorbed into that joy, where now we are inseparable. Now, wind, go ahead. Go ahead, do your thing. Try to budge me. Now, I am not vulnerable. But now, I stand with the solidity of the ocean. Which is liquid, by the way. But now, am I still mobile? Of course. I'm going to go great places. There's a drop I couldn't even imagine. I'm going to go places. I'm going to see things. And I'm going to be a part of that magnificent ocean. We resist our fondest desire, our fondest wish. And I've been giving an example.

When you were 10 years old, you wanted something. You wanted something. You didn't know what it was. You didn't know its name. All you knew is you wanted something. And a toy came along. And it was, ah, maybe it's that. You got the toy, and you played with it. Got bored with it. Basically, realizing that's not it. That's what boredom is, I guess. It starts to dawn on you. It's not a happening thing. Bored with it. And you said to yourself, maybe when I get a little older, I will get it. I'll find it. And little kids have a great affinity to wanting to be older than they are. So you ask a kid who's 10 years old, I'm almost 11. Assumption is, it's an assumption, but the assumption is, I will definitely find it. I will definitely get it. When I am older. So the next target, as the kid gets older and older from 10, is 16. 16. Then I'll have it. And 16 comes, and you think you have it. But you. And now, the next target, 21 or 18. I'll get it when I'm 18. 18 comes. 21. I'll be a mature adult, then of course I'll have it. 21. 25. Can't drive a car, you know, rent a car. Definitely, when I get 25, I'll be able to rent a car and then, oh, I know, I'll move out of my parents' home. Then I'll get it. Wish, I wish it was that simple. I wish what you are looking for was in a room somewhere. Alas, it's not. So then, oh, maybe when I'm 40. When I'm 50, I know, I'll get it when I retire.

When I was in Sacramento, I picked up this magazine and they had this whole article on places to retire. And they were talking about, well, these people are in a different category. They really want to retire. They just want to do what they have always wanted to do. They're still young, but they just want to do what they have always wanted to do. There are all these places. That's fascinating. Because there was a place in Wyoming, there was a place, oh no, Minnesota, there was a place in Albuquerque or New Mexico, there was a place in Mexico, Florida. And I was like, wait a minute. It's not in these places. That which you want to really do and have always wanted to do, it's not in these places. You can go and you can visit and you can think you've got it, but it's not in these places. It's not.

Prem Rawat 2004

And the fascinating thing is, then also 65 comes along and it's not there. And now, you, the old child, is looking at the young child, the 10-year-old. And what's being said, oh, he's so cute. Why? Why is he cute? He's not cute. It's this old kid, he's seeing the little kid, and they have found a common place. And it's not the toys, and it's not the stories. You think it is that. It's not that. It is. hat little kid wants something, and this big kid also wants something. And you know what? They happen to be exactly the same things. And there is a recognition of that little kid. Maybe someday, I will find it. The force, the power of that want that runs through the arteries of this heart, not the pumping heart, the heart inside. The raging waters of love and peace that run through the canals of this inner being are powerful, powerful. And all this is to celebrate that that is the way it is, that I am not left up to my suggestions and ideas of when I am to be thirsty, because then I truly would have died of thirst a long time ago.

Somebody asked me, what is the difference between desire and thirst? And I gave him a nice little example. And I said, you know, desire is maybe you want a Nissan car. It's your desire. And believe me, you can be talked out of it. But thirst, you cannot be talked out of thirst, because that is its nature. It must be quenched. It is not a subject of discussion. It is not a subject of contemplation. It is not a subject that needs to be researched. It is a subject of fulfillment. Drink the water, quench your thirst, end of ordeal. When my resistance to reality begins to fade, and I'll come back to this. When my resistance to reality begins to fade, I start to understand a lot. Amazing, isn't it? Unfortunately, my resistance to reality only begins to fade when I am placed in the most precarious of situations. When I am placed in a place where I am, and it has become obvious, not in a good situation, then I begin to open up to reality and go, life, wow, geez, you know, wonderful.

That's, you see, that is the message, that you must not do this. That be ahead of the game of life, and understand the value of each breath whilst you're alive, and everything is great. It makes for much better cruising. It makes for much, much better journey. It makes for much better conscious life. Open your eyes, and take each step in earnest. Open your eyes inside, in this wonderful city of the heart, and look around, and see these beautiful avenues, and see the peace coming towards you, and stand still. Stand very, very still, so the peace can find you. budge. budge. Let it come. Let it touch you. Let it envelop you. Let that beautiful love from within come and hold you. Stand still, very, very still. Not hiding in some corner of some idea, or a dream, but in the widest avenue, in the middle of the busiest intersection. Be obvious as you hold still. put on a disappearing act. This is not the time in your life, any day that you have been given is a day that you can visit the city of the heart. Then it is not the time to play humble. No, it is the time to be obvious. As this life is obvious, as this breath is obvious, isn't it? It's obvious. Your existence is obvious. It is not hidden under some rock in some mountain. It is not hidden under some grass in some lush forest. But here it is. It's obvious.

Your quest is obvious. It has always been, and it seeks to be fulfilled. And the magic of magics, the miracle of miracle has happened. You've been given a life. You've been given a life so that this could happen, so this could manifest. What is this existence? underestimate it. What is this existence? I will tell you what this existence is. It's pretty special, and you know why it's special, because it is a bridge. It is an incredible bridge between the finite and the infinite. This is where it happens. This is where the two meet. This is the threshold where the two can meet, where the mortal can experience immortality. Nothing else. You walk out of a hot room into some cold fresh air outside, and you go, ah, that feels so good, ah. But close these eyes and open the other ones. It's amazing. And then let the feeling begin. It's pretty amazing, you know. To open the eyes inside, you have to close these ones. If you open the ones on the outside, the inside ones close. All it becomes is a memory, but that's okay. That's okay. It's a bridge. One end on one end, the other end on the other end. If the bridge has both ends on the same end, it wouldn't bridge anything, would it? It'd just be a loop. But one end, one thing, one end. Open the eyes in the world and see.

There is one happiness that by nature will fizzle out. It will. It's like a party. People come and now you're here. Oh man, I haven't seen you. How are you? Good to see you. How are you doing? You know, in the parties and people say that to everybody. Oh, so good to see you. So good to see you. How good could it be? You even know this person. Everybody going around, I'm pleased to see you. look awfully pleased. It was good to meet you. Everybody's saying that to everybody. You mean in this entire party, you haven't come across anybody that you aren't all that pleased to see? Now statistically, what are the chances of that? You know, and you see people in one corner. Obviously, they're trying to avoid everybody else. But unless somebody comes from the other side. Oh, so glad to see you. So pleased to see you. Oh, nice to see you. Oh, so good you could come. But then the party is going to be over. That happiness that you experienced from the party, by nature will fizzle out. That's how it is. Yesterday, just found a few minutes. I wanted to sit down. So I was sitting down, thumbing through the TV. There was a pretty good movie on. Started to watch it. It was pretty good. And then I kind of fell asleep. And when I woke up, it was just the title scrolling. And I said to myself, what happened? It was good. Movie turned bad. It's not very interesting. So that kind of happiness by its nature is limited. There is peace too. That has different natures. One day, you know, the neighbor's car won't start. So you say to him, you know, let me help you. And you do. And the fighting ends. And you have peace. How long? It's going to start again.

Prem Rawat 2004

People say world peace. People understand which peace they're talking about. Because the peace that they think they want in this world. Can only happen. If every single human being was merely a duplicate of one person. Meaning everybody liked the same thing. Did the same thing. Then it would be fine. No conflict. No conflict. I mean all the highways wouldn't have to be two way. Could be one way. Because everybody would do the same thing.

But when? You have all the differences. Some are going to rub. And that peace is going to come and go. Love has different natures too. You say to your wife you know. Can you get me a cup of tea please? And every day she's been getting you a cup of tea. One day she said get it yourself. Why do you have to ask me? Who do you think I am? Your servant? Get it yourself. And while you're getting it. Bring me a cup. I know you know. The love might get rocky. If that keeps on happening. The love might get a little on the rocky side. But here's the good news. There is a love. That is not subject. To all of this. Because it has nothing to do with a cup of tea. It has nothing to do with an etiquette. Of this world. There is a peace. Inside every human being. That is not subject. To the similarities or differences. Of human beings. So there is a happiness. Inside each one of you. That is constant. Those are some mighty statements.

Really are. You've got all these people going around. Giving seminars. Of you know. How to be happy. And how to have joy. And how to have love. And you know. A better household. And a better job. And a better this. And a better that. nd you know. How you can be a better dog owner. And how can you. How you can be a better cat owner. And how can you yourself be a better person. And people are like. Wow. Now there's all these people. Who go around saying. You know. This is how you should raise your child. Because how did it get to a point. Where the person. That couple that brought this child into the world have no clue. How to raise that kid. I still scratch my head over that one. The kids have. Today. The kids are just like. Too much. I'm not going to talk about it too much. Because that'll show the generation gap. But how can it be? How can it be? The earth needs to be taught. How to greet a seed. A seed needs to be taught. How to grow into a plant. No. No.

And that is why. What is being said here. Is a reminder to you. That this is what you have within you. That this is the possibility. That exists within inside of you. And you should settle for nothing less. That if you're going to have peace in your life. Go for the real stuff. Not imitation peace. And that if you're going to have love in your life. Then go for the real love. And if you're going to have truth in your life. Go for the real truth. If you're going to have happiness in your life. Go for the real stuff. settle for anything less. This can be a very good ending. This can be a very good beginning. This can be a very beautiful story. Your story. Your story. You. You. You who you are. You. You. Your face. Your thoughts. Your nose. Your dislikes. Your likes. This is who you are. Who you are. Next time you go to the beach.

Pick some sand up. Put it on the palm of your hand. Take it all away. Till there's one grain of sand left on the palm of your hand. And then look around. And see all the sand that there is. Then look at the one that's on the palm of your hand. And know that that one is different to all the other ones. It's unique. Unique! There is no grain of sand like this one anywhere in the world. Check it out. That's who you are.

You are unique. Distinctly unique. There has no one been like you on the face of this earth before. And there won't be again. Never. Ever. Do you understand what that means? Never. This drama of this person, of this human being, will never play out again. It is unique. The universes may come and go. This is not happening again. The other day I was listening to the song from Kabir. The song is to the soul. About this. And he's calling this body a sheet. Chaddar. Sheet. Wear the sheet well. just leave it lying around here and there. let it be ripped. let it become dirty. This chenri, this chaddar. Unique. Has been weaved with great love and care.

And there isn't another one like it. People get very proud to show something like, and you know there's only 24 of these around. Now can I take you to the mirror and show you something? That there's only one of in this entire world, universe, whatever. There are people, they get into this whole thing. Well yeah, there's a parallel universe. And in this parallel universe, there is one just like us, except opposite. If there is a god, he would have put an end to that a long time ago. You know there are some people in this world, you can't imagine two of them. You have a hard time imagining one of them. Two of them. But even those people it's kind of hard to imagine one of them. They're unique.

Prem Rawat 2004

It's the universe. The way you can appreciate something nobody else can. The way, what makes you smile is your signature. The palette isn't this planet earth. The palette is the heart. Inscribe onto that heart your signature. It isn't the world where you need to write so-and-so is here. No, this needs to be x-scribed onto your heart, so-and-so was here. And it'll never disappear. It'll never disappear. Another heart will take it on. It's like a flag, and it'll live, and it'll live, and it'll live, and it'll live. Truth is simple. Simpler still is to be still and let it come to you. This breath is simple and simpler still is to sit down, be still, and let it come and dance through you. It is not so much the dance, but what it does to you, what it leaves behind. Why is it that way? I know. I know. I mean, if I was to sit there and itch my ear, it wouldn't do the same thing. But to sit still and let this breath weave this magic, and with everyone that comes, and everyone that goes, and everyone that comes, and everyone leaves a little bit behind, filling a bucket, filling a bucket, filling a bucket, filling a bucket of that incredible tranquility of that joy, I get to keep that one. I get to keep that one. I get to be fulfilled. I get to. This is what I'm all about.

This is what you are all about. You will judge your life by the success and failures you will have in it. And you will have more successes, and you will have more failures. And you will worry. You're good at worrying. You will worry about things you really need to worry about. And even when you are worrying, just in the back of your mind, if you will, remember, peace is looking for you.
