Maharaji, Introducing Peace E157
It is quite normal for Maharaji to rave on and on about "the Breath." Sometimes in frenzied volleys of verbiage thourgh more often in hushed tones of awe at the magnificence of his exposition. But this day in his so-called Introduction to Peace he reaches a new nadir of over-the-topness.
Words of Peace: Maharaji, Introducing Peace 2004 E157
Maharaji, as Prem Rawat is widely known, speaks to people around the world about the possibility of finding inner peace and contentment. He started addressing audiences when he was only 3 years old. At the age of 13, he was invited to address audiences in London and Los Angeles [as Guru Maharaj Ji, The Lord of the Universe]. Since then, he has presented his message to over 6.5 million people in more than 50 countries. Speaking at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok, Thailand, he recently said, The peace that we are looking for is already in the heart. It needs to be felt and I can help you get in touch with it. Maharaji's message is more than words. People who listen to him express finding profound inspiration, a fresh perspective on life and peace within themselves.

So the purpose of today's event is to introduce to you the possibility of peace. Now, that sounds like a very simple thing to do, and it is. But how does one go about introducing the possibility of peace? When peace should be in the heart of every single human being. When the peace should need no introduction.
It already should be understood that each one of us need, not want, not it would be nice to have, but we need. We need peace, and let me define what that need is. Like the water is to the desert, like the wind is to the sailboat. Like the flowing is to the river, because if the river doesn't flow, it's no good anymore, it becomes clogged, it becomes dirty. It needs to flow to keep itself clean. Like the sun is to the moon, without the sun, the moon would never shine. You look at the beauty of the moon, but forget where it's coming from. It's coming from the sun. That is how much we need peace in our lives. But what happens? What happens is that we become so familiar with the complexities of this life. All the good, the bad that happens every day, we become very familiar with it. Our focus turns to trying to decipher in our existence what is good, what is bad, what is right, what is wrong.

We have become problem solvers. Of course, nobody points out to us that we are the ones that create the problem. And then we want an award to solve the problem. And every time you see an award for solving problems, there should be another award for creating the problem in the first place. And so life becomes more and more intricate, more and more complex, more and more difficult. And then people say, well, there has to be something more. Right. There always was something more. There always has been something more.
But you have ignored it. And that's a very strong and a very powerful statement. I'm not here to blame you. I'm not saying that, oh, yes, you always had it and then you lost it. Even though that's true, I'm not here to blame you. So what is it that we want? What is it that we are all looking for? Not as a universal thing, but each individual on the face of this earth. What are we looking for? What does this heart of ours want? And it wants joy. But not the kind of joy that is temporary in nature. Wants peace, but not the kind of peace that is temporary in nature. I have figured something out. A lot of people think that absence of war is peace. What I have figured out is for as long as people have been fighting, absence of war may not be a happening thing. But that should not preclude the possibility of peace. And why do I say that? Because war has nothing to do with peace and peace has nothing to do with war. There is a peace that transcends any war.
There is a peace that is in itself. It does not need an absence of one to become the positive, the presence of another. And that is the peace that we are all looking for. And that is the peace that we want. And that is the peace that this heart wants in this existence. It is that one missing element that is by its nature the most accessible to us and the most missed by us. The two extremes. It is so readily available and yet it is so far away from us. It is so right there and it is so unknown. It is so present and yet it is so absent. And all we have to do is begin by that simple introduction. And so let me introduce you to you. You to you. You. You have been introduced to a lot of people. This is so and so and this is so and so and this is so and so. You have been introduced to a lot of people except for one person. And you have never been introduced to that person.
And that person is you. And I'm going to do that because I can. Truth irks people. Because we would all like to have our own little truth. And we would all like to be happy with our own little truth. Our truth needs to be, I'm fine, I'm okay. I need anything. I need what Maharaji is talking about. I need it. I'm fine.

Then I come along and I say, It's not what you need, it's what your heart needs. And people go, Huh? I know what my heart needs. Another contradiction of truth. You know, and this is one of those things. How do you discuss this? Because truth is so private. You cannot talk to your friend about it. Truth is so private because you know. You know and wherever you turn. And wherever you go. And wherever you want to hide. Try to hide from yourself. Easy to hide from your friend. Just go to the bathroom, lock the door. Your friend happens to be in Italy. Take a flight to New Zealand. But how do you hide from yourself? That's the problem, isn't it? Wherever you go. You take a flight to New Zealand.
You go with you. So does your heart. So does your quest. So does your thinking. So does your understanding. And everything follows you wherever you go. And that's why. This issue needs to be resolved. This issue needs to be understood. This issue should not be feared. Because that peace, the fulfillment of this heart. Is the greatest bringer of joy on the face of this earth. And we are talking about joy. Unparalleled. A lot of people think. That to receive the ultimate joy. Quote, unquote. Whatever it happens to be.
To receive the ultimate joy. You have to give up life's all little joys. Wrong. People think. Watching a baby take his first steps. Has to be sacrificed. If you want ultimate fulfillment. Wrong. You know. We human beings do a very curious little thing. It's curious. I know why we do this. I'm not a scientist. I'm just an observer. But when something gets too close for comfort.
We take that thing and put it as far away from ourselves. As we possibly can. For instance. God. Little too close for comfort. Where do we put him? Way up there. Where is God? That would never do. Here? No. In me? No. This is terribly close to comfort. In me? I remember. One time I gave a test. And it was the. Moral studies that we were doing in our school. And it said, where is God? And I said, well. From what I have studied. God is everywhere. So God's in me too. I failed. I failed. This was not an idea that was appreciated. Because the answer should have been, God is in heaven. Where is heaven? Billions of miles away from me. Because if heaven is billions of miles away from me.

Then I can survive in my little reality. And everything is okay. Because then I can do something and nobody saw it. Nobody saw it. Not even God. Did not see. God, where was he? Way up there. And so and so and so goes the story. Of us and our understanding. Of us and our trials and tribulations. To understand what is true. And all this time.
The truth is not that far. But inside the heart of every single human being. There lies the truth. And it is not a statement. Truth is not a statement. Truth is a feeling. Truth is a reality. Truth is beautiful. So is that joy. So is that peace. So is this life? And because. When it gets too close to comfort. Oh, but if you want that ultimate truth. You have to give away. All these little things you enjoy in life. Because you cannot have them all. Why not? Why cannot I watch. A baby take his first steps.
And also be content. In my own existence. Why not? Look. The thirst. For happiness. Was not created by me. I was born with it. The thirst to be content. Was not learned. I was born with it. The thirst to be in that peace. That joy. That satisfaction. Has always been inside of me. It is one thing I never had to learn. It is one thing that I never had to study. It is one thing that I always have known. And always will. And to my last breath. To my last breath. I will endeavor. For peace. In my existence. Peace.
Peace. This is. Such a strange. Strong quest. Undeniable. Mountains can be moved. But this quest will not be moved. Oceans can be parted. But this quest. Will not be budged. This will stay. And its only conclusion possibly can be. Is for. You. For. Me. To be. Fulfilled. If it is a challenge. Then accept it. If it's a wish. Then fulfill it. If it's a cry. Then console it. If it's a need. Then satisfy it. Because there is no escaping. Of who you are. Why? Because you. Are. Beautiful. Beautiful. Why are you beautiful? Because you are alive. Not because of what you have accomplished. That's not what makes you beautiful. You are beautiful.
Because this breath. The most. Divine gift of all. Comes. Into. You. This is. Why. You. Are. Beautiful. Unchallenged. Unchallenged. No judgment of good or bad. No judgment of right or wrong. Every day. Every moment. It comes into you. Into you. As personal. As it possibly can be. Touching only you. You can be in a room. Full of a hundred thousand people. And of all those people in that room. It will come. And it will touch you. It will come. And it will enter you. It will come. And it will bless you. That is. That breath. All that you are. Is because. Of that one gift.
That comes into you. Next time you hear a beautiful piece of music. Listen to it. Listen to it well. Enjoy it as much as you can. And then take a breath. And go. Thank you. Thank you to the musician for playing the music. And thank you for this breath. Because you can hear it. Without this. It doesn't matter how much beautiful music they play. You know. It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter what they say. It doesn't matter all the eulogies that are read out. It doesn't matter how wonderful they think you were.
Do you know the difference between were and are? Compliments of breath. Breath. Yes. You are. Breath. No. You were. Breath. Yes. You can feel. Breath. No. Nothing. Not even nothing. All that you are. All that you are. Your fears. Your joys. Your strengths. It's all because of that breath. And in each breath is your sanctity. In each breath is the pillar of the most amazing strength known to man.
