Maharaji in Florida PWK-029 2007-07-01
This speech was held at Fort Lauderdale as part of a 2 day event on the afternoon or evening of 1st June. He seems to be saying that having 140 aspirantes out of hundreds of millions of North Americans is adequate or a success. The aspirants are not mentioned again. Twice he veers in to the 1970s, the past. Using something he attributes to Kabir he sneers at "renouncers" who cut off the hair and not the Mind. He has a good phrase he has been using, basically its "why are renouncers announcers?" Rhyming sarcasm. Has he forgotten the shaven heads of "Mahatmas" Gurucharanand and Sampuranand on whose shoulders he was raised to Dehra Dun Divinity and on to Malibu Heaven? He can't let the 70s go. He's still whining about being questioned "Is this the same Knowledge that Jesus gave to his disciples? What kind of question is that?" Seeing as how the young Prem Rawat aka Maharaji aka Guru Maharaj Ji said "I can give you the same Knowledge that Jesus the Christ gave in His time" it seems like a perfectly relevant question and everybody except the 140 aspirants knew it. A person who remembers the past is not walking forward with the head pointed backwards they are the informed walking forward who know the past and are not condemned to repeat it.
Haven't all his speeches become pep talks, or the opposite of 'pep' talks. Talks designed to reinforce attitudes and concepts and beleifs but also to induce a somnolence, a quitude but a reinforcement to make a continued, or more effort and to accept just that it is what it is and if its good enough for everyeon else in the room then it should be good enough for you. It ain't bliss but tt ain' bad … most of the time. Judging by his speeches Maharaji believes that most of his followers, the people who listen, participate, meditate(?) and donate find it dfficult to meet life's slings and arrows with eqanimity and courage and strength. Which is why he is stressing these a lot. Of course, he's having them clutch at straws "one second of …" He can easily make them feel good by making funny voices and slapsticking on the stage for a few moments of laughter.
- This is the scare tactics of the world. Oh, get involved with this, the next thing you know you'll be leaving this whole world. I'm not asking anybody to abandon the world for truest happiness. Then why was he still trying to fill the ashrams until the bitter end
- "those people who have renounced, why do they need to announce?" - Denouncing hypocrisy but as always he goes too far speaking as if all people who renounce the 'world' are poseurs, we only know about the renouncer/announcers not the renouncers period
- He explains the Grand Illusion (Maya) = "here today and gone tomorrow" - He thought this was so brilliant they excerpted it and put it out on the internet

Celebrating Life PWK-029
Here we are in thundering Florida. Today I'd like to just focus a little bit on aspirants. There's 140 aspirants here. But what has to be said is in fact true for everyone. Because it is about this life. It is about you being alive and celebrating that. Not the concepts. Those are the things we celebrate. The concepts, the ideas, what happens in this world. But what we need to be celebrating is our existence. That's who we are. We are not the sum of all the things that happen around us. And I know a lot of you since whenever you saw me have been going through whatever you go through because that's what happens. All the traps are there. It's merely a question of putting your foot in them and getting caught.
There are issues with the traps because it's only after you have been trapped do you realize that you were in a trap. And only when you get out of the trap do you realize how you could have totally evaded it and not even have to get involved in it. But for most of us, we are born.

We exist. Things come our way. We have to move. We have to go to them. They come to us. That's the way it's set up. And then when they hit us, we go, ouch. When they hit us, we go, why did that happen? I mean, do you realize how many explanations there are out there? Do you have any idea of how many explanations there are out there? Why does a human being suffer? Do you know how many explanations there are just for that? Think about it. Indians have a whole long list. Karma. You did something bad in your last lifetime. That's why you are suffering. But that's great. But you think it should be associated with some Knowledge of what exactly it is that I did that I'm suffering for? So that I can make amends and go, ouch, you know, that's what I did and this is what happened so next time I'm not going to do that. No, but you have no Knowledge of what was happening. Oh, then it gets into what you did in your last lifetime. Who were you? Were you an elephant? A horse, a dog, a cat? Explanations, explaining to you why what happens, happens.
But nobody looks at what happens to you in a simple, realistic, down-to-earth way. Simple. What happens, it is not because there is somebody up there that has got it in for you. It may seem like it, but that's not it. That's not one of the explanations. Good things happen, bad things happen. What do we do in our lives? Do we remember the good? No. I say no. Bad? Every one of them in great, great detail. That's what happens. To remember the good, we need cameras, we need movie cameras, we need everything recorded, have it, have pictures of it. And, in fact, friends that can help us emulate those good times again and again and again. These are the people we consider our friends. How do we become friends with people sometimes? Maybe we are out on the beach, and we are with this group of people, and we have a good time. Oh, let's do this again. You are my friend. Call me. And then, all of a sudden, the friendship begins to grow. You become friends and try to do those wonderful things again and again and again and again.

But it's frustrating because it's never quite emulatable. Good things come to you, but you know how to recognize them. Bad things come to you, and you remember everything about them, sometimes date, time included. I mean, men, in general, are horrible in remembering important dates. I know why. They remember other dates that are important to them somehow. You know, there are people here who may not know when their child was born, but they know Fourth of July is coming. Why? We're going to have a good time. It's going to be this holiday. It's going to be this fireworks. It's going to be the picnic parties. It's going to be this, and people are there. They're already planning this. This is being planned upon, to have a good time. Your vulnerability comes from not acknowledging the obvious, not from what the things happen to you in your daily routines, but not acknowledging the obvious, and the obvious is that the breath comes into you that you are alive.
That is an obvious thing, and you do not acknowledge it. Why? Because you understand it. And when do you understand it? When you're about ready to draw the last one. Then you go, I got it. Now, you think this is a joke? This has happened too many times. Really happened too many times. There was a guy, and his children would tell him about the possibility of Knowledge and the possibility of feeling this feeling inside, and he never acknowledged it. He never, never acknowledged it. Now, one day when he was dying in the hospital, his friend was with him, and he said to his friend, tell my children now I finally got it. I understand it. And then, he was gone.
Why do things happen? It is not your last lifetime. Everything you do, every single thing you do, you sow a seed for something. This is getting heavy duty. I know, I know, I can feel it. But it is true. Every single thing you do, you sow a seed for something, and that seed is going to sprout. And when it does, either it's going to bear sweet fruit, or it's going to bear thorns. Because you throw those seeds out there like there was no consequence whatsoever to it. Fistful of these seeds. You say, I have never done that. Every second that you live, this is good, this is good. Every breath that comes into you, every second that you exist, every second that you are allowed to exist, is a seed. Got it? It's a seed. And because you live, you're taking that seed in your hand. Because you exist, you're taking that seed in your hand. And the question is, what are you doing with those seeds? Are you meticulously planting them? Being conscious, that's what it's about. That's all it is. Today, seeds were planted. Wait a little while, they will sprout. Were you aware when you were planting those seeds? Or, have you been living your life? Just living, and living, and living, and living, and living. And the time has come, and the time has gone. And the day has come, and the day has gone. And it all blends into non-existence. Okay, another day, another month, another page off the calendar, another year, gone. Which one?
Those of you who have the gift of Knowledge, this is the possibility that can be opened up to you, that you do not throw that which is so important away. Consciousness, to live this life consciously. For those who are aspiring to receive the gift of Knowledge, this is the possibility that may be presented to you. That's why you are here. That's why I am here. To make that possibility real.
The Grand Illusion
This is not about the books. This is not about the explanations. Because people who are caught up in explanations, and I know this, are on one hand pulling thorns out of their foot, on the other hand, they're sowing them. Those people who are caught up in the explanations, they're going to need more explanations. Am I wrong? You think all the explanations that were written 200 years ago, 300 years ago, 2,000 years ago, would have been sufficient? You think they're sufficient? People are still writing them. People are still interpreting them. People are still trying to figure out what was really said. And do you think it's going to stop? Do you think it's going to stop anytime soon? No. People will go on explaining to you, to you, what that really means when the word was used. And you? You? You want nothing better than a pre-digested package. Feed it to me. Feed it to me. Give it to me. This is how most people are. They buy something new.

I know there's a lot of people who are going to buy the new iPhone. But they'll never read the manual. And for years they're going to go around with this iPhone until they find somebody else who has an iPhone, who has read the manual. And they will go, how do you do it? Now, the manual is available to everyone. But people will not read the manual. Just show me how you do it. This is what happened. One time I was on this airplane, and the airplane had been sold. And I had been flying that airplane quite a bit. And so I went in the cockpit, you know, just to make sure that the pilots were comfortable. There wasn't any switch they didn't understand. So I went there, and both the captain was sitting here, co-pilot was sitting here. I went behind them, and I said, can I help you with anything? Are you okay? And they said, oh, yes, yes, we're fine. I said, you know, I used to fly this if you have any questions. And I could see them both struggling with the FMS, the navigation unit. They were both struggling with it because they didn't know anything about it. I said, can I help you with that? They go, what do you know about it? I said, I know anything you want to know, I tell you. They said, okay, you have 30 seconds. That's what they said to me. You have 30 seconds. I had no problem with that. I started explaining to them, and 30 seconds later, I stopped. And it just so happened that in the 29th second, it was getting juicy. It was getting to what they wanted to know because they had to take the airplane from where it was to an airport not too far away, but they wanted to know how to operate this thing. I stopped. Five seconds went by. Ten seconds went by. And they both turned and looked at me like, what? And I said, whoa, 30 seconds are up.
They were like, oh, God. They said, oh, please go on. I said, are you sure? I said, look, let me tell you what you need to know to get this thing from here to there comfortably. So I told them, you know, what you're used to, because when I was flying then, I knew what the differences were in the two, and I said, what you're used to is flight plan. On this one, it's called Nav. So whatever you want to do in the flight plan, just push the key Nav. It'll do it. Great, wonderful, thank you, you know. But this is what happens. Everybody wants that pre-digested package. Just explain to me how everything happens. Whoever can explain to you this, of how everything happens, is not telling the truth. Because it cannot be explained. Infinite variation exists. And it is your life.
And it is your understanding. And it is your effort. And it is your feeling, and it is your heart, and it is your existence, and it is your garden. This is what I was talking about in Atlanta. What is your garden all about? Is your garden to show other people how beautiful your garden looks? Because if it is, this garden, I can tell you, is made out of plastic. Zero maintenance. It doesn't have grass. It's got astroturf. All the trees are plastic. All the flowers are plastic. And you know what? You know what? Your garden looks good. It does. It looks good. But it carries no attributes of a garden. Not one single flower has a beautiful scent. No bird, no bird lands on the plastic tree. And when the wind blows, it does not sway. When the seasons come, it does not change. But it looks great. To whom? To whom? Not to you. You know why? Because you know it's all plastic. But it looks great to all of those people who do not know it is plastic. I might have said a little bit too much there. But the fact that the garden is made out of plastic is not supposed to be broadcasted and nobody is ever supposed to know. All you're supposed to do is receive compliments. God, your garden looks great. And every time the spring that has not come in other gardens, people are supposed to come to you and say, Man, spring came early to you. And you're supposed to go, Yes! Because I am the enlightened one.
What do you think people think enlightenment is? People think enlightenment is when you know everything. You know the future. If you are caught in the web of reasons, you should know your future. It is the same future that you had yesterday and the month before that, and the year before that. That is your future. Because nothing, nothing changes. nothing, absolutely nothing changes. But if, but, and that is what the Master says. But if you want this future, can change. You know? We think, go to someone who can help us. There's a lot of people, first of all, they go, "We want any help. Nothing needs to be changed. Everything is perfect. Everything is grand. Everything is great. I want any changes." Yes, you're quite happy. Live another week of the same that you have already lived. Live a month of the same that you have already lived. Live another year. And for some people, that would be wonderful. Really? Is that possible? Then I want to live that year when I was 18 for the rest of my life. The people, young, old, different ideas, different desires, different thoughts, different meanings.
And yet, we forget. We forget our very humanness, that we are a human being. But so many have come before us. We are tantalized by technology. Oh, it's different now, isn't it? Is it? Is it? What you feel, whether you are in your 2007 model car, or somebody who is driving a chariot, the feeling inside the human being, inside the human being, you think it is any different? You think that somebody who was condemned to be hung, and somebody who is condemned to die in an electric chair, and this is, of course, the guy who was condemned to be hung. This is before they had invented electricity. And then this is the guy who is going to be, you know, toasted in a modern electric chair, absolutely making sure that it will be 100%. You think those two human beings actually felt differently? One guy goes, "Mman, not only am I going to be hung, but this old, old technology." And the other guy going, "Man, I can't wait to get toasted. That is new technology chair. I mean, that thing is just ultra-modern." No. Both are going to be reeling in a sadness, perhaps. This is an assumption. A sadness that I will no longer be.
I'm not talking about whether that's good or bad, whether a person gets toasted or hung. That's not what I'm talking about. It doesn't matter. The sadness that you feel today, you think that anybody before you has ever felt it? The other day, I saw this woman on TV, on news, crying. She was watching pictures of her house burned down in Nevada. And I'm like, but you know, you're watching this probably on a high-resolution monitor. And this is being shot in a high-resolution format. And this is all satellite-linked. Does it make any difference? Does it? What has all this technology got to do with it? Your humanness has nothing to do with it. Your sorrow, your joy will not be affected by all of this. This was dubbed a long time ago.

There was a word given to this called the Grand Illusion, called Maya.
Grand illusion. People still understand why was all this? Why is all this? How could this be an illusion? People make jokes about how can this be an illusion? Because. Not because. It is an illusion. But like an illusion, it is here today and gone tomorrow. It disappears. A sleight of hand, what seemed to be forever, is gone. And where? No one knows. People go and they watch the magician take a little bunny rabbit and make him disappear. And everybody goes. Right in front of your eyes. A day is gone. The biggest magician creates his grand effects. The day is gone. A life is gone. And nobody applauds of how wonderful that little illusion was. Because it is not an illusion. That which is gone is not coming back.
And that's why you need to be conscious in this life. That's why every day needs to count. That's why every hour needs to count. That's why you need to feel your life. You need to understand this beautiful, beautiful, beautiful scenario that has been painted for you. That there are those magnificent trees that bear sweet, sweet fruit. That there are those magnificent trees that cast cool, cool shadow. Sit a while. Sit a while. And take account of your existence. Sit a while. Sit a while. And feel that which will fill you with gratitude. Sit a while. And understand. Sit a while. And feel the calmness of this breath. Sit a while. And feel the clarity emanate. That's all I can say. Emanate. Through you. Through you. There are things in this life which have consequences. And those consequences, we feel afraid. Because we want those consequences to be good consequences, not bad consequences. But did you know, did you know, and I know you know, but did you know that there are some things in this existence which have no consequence? Just emanate.
Just emanate. When you feel clear, there's nothing to chase. When you feel clear, there's nothing to run for.
Contentment is like that. When you feel content, you need to chase anything. When you feel content, you feel content. And when you feel content, you feel gratitude. And in that moment, this moment should never, ever be judged by the yardstick of time. One second of contentment is worth more than 59.9 minutes of turmoil. That's its weight. That's its importance. One second. One second of clarity. One second of clarity can save you, in an hour, one second of clarity can save you from 59 minutes, 59 seconds worth of pain and suffering. One second. Do you know that? I know you know that. But nobody maybe put it that way. One second of clarity can save a whole day. One second of clarity, and I have seen this, can save a whole life. So remember how I started? What is it that we do? What do you think we should be doing? Feel that clarity. I say to people sometimes, feel good.
Feel good. Then sometimes I laugh. In case you're not feeling good, I know a way I can make you feel good. Happy? Happy? People know what happy is. Unfortunately, people know what happy is. Our language has become so convoluted. And not only our language has become convoluted, but we really have started to believe it. What we like, we say I love. What I like, we say I hate. What is quiet, what is quiet has become peaceful. People go to a quiet place, they go, God, it's peaceful here. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. Because then what happens in that peaceful place, right? The camera comes out. And you cannot take a picture of peace. Believe me. I'm having a good time. I'm happy. No, no, this is a good time. Like all time, this will stop. And what is it? What is that state of happiness? A state.
What is that true happiness? It is not about your likes and dislikes. You can be in the most miserable place and be happy. You can be in the noisiest place and feel peace. Because these are the natures of these things. And your nature is to want that. Your nature, the nature of this heart. The nature of this heart is to want, is to want that joy, that clarity. To be fulfilled. To understand. To understand. And that is possible. That is possible. That's the good news. That is possible. This is not about the ruts and routines. This is about every single day. Understanding that it is a blessing. Does that feel like that to you? Even in your most dramatic moments. But it is. And when you, when you are committed to that understanding. Not the reasoning. This is not about, what I talk about is not the realm of intellect.
But the realm of the heart. Realm of, a child plays with a toy. And the child thinks the toy amuses the child. It's not the toy. It truly is the child amusing him or herself. Toy is just a catalyst. And if that amusement was necessary, it can be done without a toy. And I have seen it. I have seen children, they have anything to do. All of a sudden they'll start closing their eyes and going, okay, where is everything? Where do you think the tree is? They'll start playing little games. All these things that you think are the catalysts that you have around. They are catalysts for things in your life. But they're not the catalyst for peace.
If you want to find the truest thing that will bring you peace, it's within you. And I'm not asking anybody to abandon one for the other.
This is what people say. This is the scare tactics of the world. Oh, get involved with this, the next thing you know you'll be leaving this whole world. No, no, no, no, no. You know, people shave off, in India especially, when people think that they have become holy, they shave all their hair. Kabir says,
"Why do you shave your hair? I mean, what wrong have your hair done to you? You shave that one thing that causes you all the problems. This mind that runs, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom." So he says, "You shave that, but you shave your hair. What harm have your hair done to you?" None.

None. It's true. In this world, to be in this world, and to appreciate every single day. That's what it's about. Not to sit on some mountain. Not to say, I abandon everything. Even those people who think they abandon everything, abandon everything. People who, you know, their advertisement to the whole world is they'll wear saffron clothes, they'll have long hair or shaved head, either one. And I'm like, this is what I was saying in India, it's like those people who have renounced, why do they need to announce? But they absolutely need to announce that they are renounced. The world. To everybody. If the world is what you have renounced, what do you have to do with it? No, but they need to show everybody, look. I am holier than you. What did they forget? The holiest. The holiest is sitting inside of you.
There are people who say, because that Creator, because that Power is inside of me, then I am the Power. Excuse me. Tea sits inside a teapot. But the teapot never becomes tea. Right? You drink the teapot, you drink the tea that is inside the teapot. Simple. Somebody wrote me an email, they came to one of the events in fact in Atlanta. And it's like, oh, what about all these terrorists and what about all these people and what about all this and this and this and all this is going on in the world. And when I saw that, it's like, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. This has always been going on in this world. Some people, somewhere, have always had enemies somewhere else. In India, when the Mughals came, and especially the son of the guy who built Taj Mahal, you know what his requirements were? His requirements were that certain kilos, quite a bit, certain kilos of hair be gotten every single day from the Brahmins. And the Brahmins used to shave their hair but keep a little bit of long hair right in the middle. And the hair could only be gotten off a head that was not attached to the body. There's a term for this weight called months. X amount of months had to be gotten every single day. Somebody has always had enemies somewhere. Nothing new.
The Romans, when they would march through someplace, Alexander, people hearing Alexander is on his way, hundreds of thousands of people would be slain. So, you think all the long lists that you see are the issues? That's not the issues, my friend. This little game keeps on happening, happening, happening, happening, happening, happening, happening, happening, happening, happening, happening. And will it go on? Of course. And it's not about those games. If you want peace in this world, the peace doesn't begin by trying to stop the games that go on in this world. Peace begins with every single human being. That's how it is. No. Understand. Understand. One, understand that it is not that difficult to bring peace on this earth. Because it begins with people. Because it begins with people.
Because it begins with you. Because it begins with each person's own understanding. In our hearts. We understand. And if we could, in that clarity, then the beautiful, beautiful simplicity dances. And when that simplicity dances, it makes us dance too. That's what it is about. That's what it is about. No complicated formulas, I'm sorry. I have complicated formulas. All I have to offer to you is my wisdom. If you want, if you want to succeed in the great war, the great war to clarity, the great war to that happiness, to that beauty, I cannot fight for you. But I place at your disposal my wisdom so that you can win. That's all a Master can do. That's all a Master can do. If you want to fight ignorance, you can win. Hands down. Winning is not the issue. It's utilizing that wisdom that the Master avails to you.
Not twisting it and turning it. Adapting it and adopting it. Unfortunately, so many people who receive Knowledge keep doing that. Like, well, let me give this interpretation. My God, it's the only thing that doesn't need interpretation. And you want to give it interpretation? Somebody once asked me this question.
Is this the same Knowledge that Jesus gave to his disciples? What kind of question is that?
All I know, walk forward with your head pointed backwards. You are going to bump into something. And when you do, I guarantee you, it will not be a pleasant experience. Please, make your head point the same way you are walking. It really helps the entire body. It really helps. People want to know if this Knowledge is for real. They want it proven to them that this Knowledge is for real. And then, they would be willing to practice it. And here's the clincher. Practice it. And you will know it is for real.
When is reality? Reality. I go some places, you know, and there's these beautiful, beautiful flowers. And I'm like, is it for real? Sometimes I have my camera, light. And I already made this mistake once, you know. I took these beautiful pictures of these flowers, went back, looked at them in the computer, and I'm like, geez, these aren't real. But nowadays, it's kind of hard to tell.
Aha, but not hard to feel. Maybe they can fool my eyes. But maybe they can't fool my nose. Maybe they can fool my nose. But maybe they can't feel my touch. So one time, I came across this one. I mean, of course, it was just a plant, but it had no flowers, so it was really hard. It felt good. And everybody was like, is this real? Oh, maybe it is. No, maybe it's not. Is it real? Man. You know what I did? I didn't touch the plant. The root. It had some moss sitting on it. Lifted it. It's fake. It's fake. They have those sandwiches sometimes at stores. You know, they look really real. I mean, really real. Touch it.
Practice. In earnest. And you will know whether this is real or not. play the games that you need proof. You've played those games with yourself enough. People have those flowers. She loves me. She loves me not. She loves me. She loves me not. You dummy. It doesn't matter whether she loves you or not. All you can do is love her. Period. And for that, whether you love her or not, you need a flower to pull out its petals. You know. Do you? Or you? This is how it always has been. Nothing new. Nothing different. All we can do is in our lives. In our lives.
Take that moment. Go inside. And feel. In the realm of the heart, the feeling is peace. In the realm of the world, the feeling is war. People go. They go to movies to be entertained. To sit down. And the other day, somebody was saying, oh, this is a really good movie. I said, what is it about? And they were, you know, not trying to tell me because it was like, but want to ruin your... I said, it's okay. When I watch a movie, I watch the movie to be entertained, not to be frustrated. So, skip, skip, skip, skip, skip, skip, skip. Last chapter. Good ending? I'll watch it. Bad ending? I need, I want this frustration. But people are like, they love that. Cliffhangers, they call them. Oh, we know what's going to… Does she die at the end? tell me, tell me.

I mean, it's like, what? You know, talk about schizophrenia. One wants to know and the other one is, do it. And it's like, this is how the rest of the life is going to be. No, it doesn't need to be like that. The conflicts, you need. Take my word for it. You need. Make it simple. Make this life simple. Beautiful journey. That's what it should be. Beautiful journey. Every part of it. Every day. Every day.
