Prem Rawat Unrehearsed Poetry: Discovery

A lot of people ask,
"What will I have to do?"

This is not a process of doing;
this is a process of undoing.
It is a process of unlearning.

It is not a question
of what we have to do.
Undoing is all that needs to happen.

What is the process like?
It is as if the most magnificent painting
were made, but no one understood it.

So people came
and plastered paint over it,
again and again, and then
they made their own paintings,
and more paintings,
and more paintings.

And if we slowly start
chipping away at the painting,
we will be most pleasantly surprised
by what we discover underneath
because it is the most magnificent
painting ever painted.

That is who we are.
We are the treasure chest.

It is much like a sculptor.
There is a piece of rock
and somehow embedded within it is a shape.
The sculptor knows that.
He comes along and takes away all
the bits that are not needed,
that mask the shape.

When those little bits and pieces
are taken away,
what emerges is
a beautiful, incredible form.
Though a rock tends to be hard,
this shape
could be very soft and beautiful.

I see the parallel in my life.

It isn't so much a question
of trying to create something,
but to take away
all the little unwanted bits and pieces,
all the things
that I don't need anymore,

all the things
that hamper the existence
ofwhat does need to be there.

It isn't a question
of fighting those things.
It isn't a question
of winning and losing.

It is a question of allowing
the shape to emerge,
the beautiful shape
of tranquility and serenity
within me.

I can desire so many things:
"I want this. I need this.
I have to have this."
But this is what I have been given.

This is a journey of discovering-
not creating.
When we become empty
of emptiness,
we have everything
and lack nothing.

Another kind of filling
starts to take place.
It is the feeling of being in tranquility.
It is serenity.

There is oneness,
not duality,
and the moment
is everything.

There is nothing to judge.
There is no anger,
no doubt.

The heart is full.
