Prem Rawat Unrehearsed Poetry: Fulfillment

There is a promise we once made to
ourselves:
'Someday I will have peace
in my life.
Someday I will have tranquility.
Someday I will have happiness."

And the years rolled by.
The promise remains unfulfilled.
Something
that caused the promise to be made
is still waiting
for the promise to be fulfilled.
And something
that the promise was made to
is still waiting
for the promise to be fulfilled.

Not a day goes by-
not a single day goes by-
where the pang, the pain, the want,
the thirst, the wish to be happy
doesn't knock.

Something inside us says, "Be fulfilled."
And the answer is,
"I'm working on it.
Someday that will happen."
Something inside us says,
"I want to be fulfilled now.
Why do I have to wait for 'someday?"
And the reply is,
"One day, before I die, I'll do that."

Why?

Why do we want to die fulfilled-
when we can live in fulfillment? Live.

That is what we are here for-
to fulfill this life,
to be filled with gratitude,
love, and understanding.
That is our responsibility to the heart.

It doesn't matter
how old or how young we are.
Unless that promise has been fulfilled,
it doesn't matter
how content we become on the
outside. The contentment on the inside
will not be there.

It is sad, but some of us are only alive
when we are dreaming.
When we are awake,
we are faced with too many problems
and too many realities of this world.

We have become creatures of thought.
In our thoughts,
we entertain ourselves;
in our thoughts, we become rich.
In our thoughts,
we do amazing things-
we become superheroes.
We save the world.

In our thoughts, we become fulfilled.

The only problem is, if someone
disturbs us and we come crashing
own out of our thoughts-
more superhero,
no more saving the world,
no more being fulfilled.

Yet every moment
is bringing us a real opportunity
to be fulfilled.

We are feeling machines.
We can feel fulfillment.
We don't have to imagine it,
we don't have to think it-
we can feel it.
What a machine!

Here comes this moment
full of the most beautiful fulfillment.

Fulfill this possibility,
not because you read it in a book,
but because you have heard the call
of your own heart to be fulfilled.

If you have not heard that,
then listen,
not from the head but from the heart,
and you will hear a call
that is the most familiar thing to you.

It has been calling you all your life.
