Prem Rawat Unrehearsed Poetry: Open the Gift

Wherever we go,
someone tells us,
"You can become better"
Every day we pick up a hook
or turn on the TV, and someone says,
'Listen to that lecture,
read that book, do this, do that, because
that will make you better."

We are alive.
Is it an accident that we are alive?
Is it an accident
that this breath comes into us?
it is time that.
we accept
that we are alive.

The day that we do,
a door opens up
that is more magnificent
than we can possibly imagine.

That is the day we begin to accept
the greatest gift of all.

The greatest gift
is not one that is going to be given,
but one that has already
been given to us.

Peace has already been given to us.
In our heart of hearts,
all that we could ever want,
all that our mind could ever desire,
has already been granted.

What we have become good at
is rejecting the gift every day,
because in our life,
everything else becomes important-
this agenda,
that schedule,
that meeting.
And every single meeting
has a very good excuse-
"responsibility."

That is the banner
on the madness of humanity.

Through great kindness,
this human body is given.
Through great kindness,
peace is placed in everyone's heart.
Through great kindness,
we each have a heart.
And with great kindness,
there is a thirst inside of us
to recognize that in our lives.
In every breath, we can feel
the kindness and the beauty
that is hidden.
We can extract from every breath
the joy that: it brings.
We can feel alive and fulfilled.

We need to open this present,
this gift of life.
To unwrap it
so we can be fulfilled.
To make our priority
that which is real.

Of all things that we remember in a
day, we need to remember
the gift of this breath.

Of all things that we forget,
we need to forget all the problems.
And to see, know and feel
gratitude in our life.
This is the gratitude that comes
not from blindness,
but from recognition,
when there is satisfaction in this heart.
What is the priority in our lives?
What do we think of
when we wake up in the morning?
"Give me a good day.
Make my day successful."

Who stops for a minute
and feels the flood of this breath
coming into them?

To feel life beginning to stir,
to feel the heart
wanting nothing less
than to be fulfilled-
that is the noblest thing
that a human being can do.

I know that one day
the time will come
when my last breath will be taken.
The train will have
pulled into its station.
When I walk off this train,
I want to say,
"Thank you.
Thank you for this life.
Thank you for this existence."
