Divine Times - June 1974 Volume 3, Issue 1
So the Divine Shelter at 1607 Race Street was born out of necessity. More than a "place to stay," the house provides a complete lifestyle where people with and without Knowledge can come to experience the shelter of Guru Maharaj Ji and live in a disciplined and spiritual environment. The old house still bears the marks of a time when people tried to build dwellings with craftsmanship and love. Inside there is a renovated hall where both Guru Maharaj Ji and Mata Ji have given satsang.
But now's the time to give, now's the time to serve, now's the time to be a part of Maharaj Ji's Mission to bring peace on earth.
Making The First Step
Today 69% of the Divine Light Mission cash flow comes from the Ashrams. They spend about 29% of that to maintain themselves and the rest goes to support the mission. 40% that is left over amounts to over a half of the support of the entire movement. When you see this, you can understand why the people in DUO are overworked and that some of the ashram premies feel really, really tired. They've been carrying the burden - one out of sixty premies - has been carrying the burden for over half of the movement. This has been going on for over a year or so.
Shifting Into Third Gear
For the past two years, DLM has paid its bills primarily with money earned and donated by ashram residents. This money, along with a few large donations from approximately ten people, has allowed the mission to grow as fast as it has.
According to Rick Berman, executive financial director of the mission, ashram residents account for more than half of DLM's income although they only comprise 1/60th of the premie population.
Today the mission has reached a point where ashram premies cannot increase the income to keep up with the growth. Bob explained at a staff meeting lastweek, "We just don't have enough money in proportion to the level of activity we are trying to maintain.
The copy camera provides Shri Hans Graphics with its various photographic needs for the production of And It Is Divine and Divine Times. It also produces negatives for the printing operation.
The Legal Department sees that all Divine Light Mission's legal obligations and rights under the law are fulfilled. Legal department secures copyrights for trademarks, publications, and all music created by mission artists. Legal also negotiates all new contracts, leases, records and files proper forms for Internal Revenue, and handles all insurance matters for the mission as well as taking care of the legal needs of individual ashram residents.
When a person first stepped into this world and started understanding it then came the word 'destruction.' He had come out of something which had no destruction.
Because from where they come, no matter what you do, there is no destruction. But in this world where they are, they can destroy. Everything you can destroy. And this is what man is up to. It's just like a little puppy, like a little child.
