Prem Rawat Stars in The Power Of Love film, 1974
Excerpts from Prem Rawat's Speeches during the 1974 Guru Puja Festival in Sydney and Melbourne, Australia, on October 26 and 29, 1974
Click here to see a note re the provenance of this and other Divine Light Mission films. In 1976 at the Frankfurt Conference, Prem Rawat (Maharaji) said Power Of Love was the best movie that DLM had ever produced.
The complete film in three parts was available at Youtube but is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Words of Peace Global Foundation.
There appears to be a very short section missing at the beginning of the movie probably due to deterioration of the media:-
… our duty, our job, to do it! Because this world you know has come to a point - and it doesn't matter if I say so, or do not, it is something that every person realizes, every I mean they have these television programs where these little kids say about love, speak about love, and they speak about war. And they have a small child just goes around, and he interviews these really, really little bitty kids, and they say, they know about war; they know that this world is coming to an end. And they know that it must be changed. It must be changed.
And so premies it's very, very important for all of us to realize that this Knowledge that has been revealed to us
and you know it's so strange, really in a way it's really, really strange that this Knowledge was even revealed to us. Now this, this uh, I'll have to explain you.
And why it is strange because you see we come into this world from the source, and that source is what this Knowledge is, is what within inside of us is, what is whatever, whatever we see
in this world is a part of that and we are a part of it, too. And we start from the source and we come into this world; you know we are one with the source and then we depart from it and we come
into this world and here we are. You know, we come, we're born and we go into this, through the whole well transit, through the whole channel of this earth and the,and the waves
of this earth and everything. But then, then after all that, after coming into this world and going through really all the miseries that a man has to put up in this world,
he is revealed this Knowledge. When he wants it, when he is looking for it, when he is seeking it, he's revealed this knowledge. And you know what that does? That's what's strange.
It puts him right back from where he really started. But that's where the destination is, too. Because you see, we leave our houses, see this is what I was explaining in Sydney.
That we leave our houses, we go away, just to be able to come back. We go, we sit in that office building or we sit in our shops or we sit here or there all day long, work work work work work.
Why? So's we can get those papers and once we get those papers, why do we need those papers? To be able to be in that house, to be able to support ourselves in that house and it's like
it all just comes back right there.
We go to be able to come back to the house and really premies, this is the reason you know that this Knowledge is so important for all of us, it's so beautiful for all of us.
Because in like in a instant, in a second, in like, it really isn't even a second it takes us right back to our source, where we belong and really why are so many people experience
all these strange difficulties and stuff is because within inside of them there is something that longs to go back and to merge with what really created it. With what it was
really, really started. And it's like it's such a blissful feeling, it's such a such a beautiful, beautiful feeling when we go back and merge, really really merge with our source.
And so this is why you know this is really the reason why this Knowledge is so beautiful and so important for us human beings living in this world.
Because we come and we think, oh it would be nice to have a car, you know and then just like a desire of a human being just goes on and on and on and on and on. You know, it's like it starts
from where we can't even notice it, it's practically unnoticeable. And then when, when we see the end of it, like the coming end of it, it's just like giant, it's like huge.
And it's like man always has been dreaming about, oh it would be nice to have a, have a Mini-Cooper. Then he gets the Mini-Cooper and drives around huh it gets very hot in here,
so I mean maybe something that's just a little bit better. So he goes on, he maybe gets a BMW or a Audi, and then he thinks, no I need a big car, you know and then he goes into the big I mean.
Desire - there is really no end to it and it just keeps going on and on and on and on and on.
Melbourne
And so premies, like after you have received this Knowledge, of course there are certain things that you want to still do, and I think are important for a person to still do, but like there is nothing, nothing so beautiful really than this Knowledge, than this beautiful, beautiful, beautiful Knowledge. And when this Knowledge has been now revealed to us, by the Grace, you know there is only one thing left to do, and that is this meditation. Because it's like having the the glass of water and you're maybe very, very thirsty, very, very thirsty, but when you get the glass of water there's only one thing left to do. Maybe before you got the water there were a lot of things to do - to yell, scream, shout, go to the place, get the water, search for the water, maybe dig for the water. ANd there were so many, I mean, endless amount of things. But now that the water is there before us, now there is only one thing left to do and that is to be able to drink it.
Really premies, so many religions were formed, so many people came, so many people tried to do it - and never made it. And the reason was because the people were always,
constantly looking towards the wrong person, towards the wrong way and it's like, that's how it really, they really got deluded when Jesus came - how many people really listened to him?
They were just a bunch of people, they listened and they were happy, they were satisfied, they had found water. They had got their help all right. But those guys who were just counting on their, on their mind,
who were counting on their king to get them there, and not understanding that if somebody is leading a gang of five people in a desert, it doesn't matter.
That leader is in the same situation as those other four are, because he hasn't got any water, those four haven't got any water, he hasn't got any food, those four don't have any food,
he does, he has no direction and it's like, it's like a blind person, you know, trying to guide a blind person. They can go, but remember, not very far. They can go in circles all the time.
And this is what happens in this world.
And now that this Knowledge by the Grace has been revealed to us and that the happiness has been given to us, shouldn't we all smile? You know, we have cryin' all our lifetime already, you know and it's like almost we have busted our eyes crying. Now that this happiness finally got back to us, it's about time we smiled about it and that is by doing meditation, you know, and that is by really, really, really realizing because that's what meditation does, makes you really, really, really realize, gets you goin', makes you really, really, really realize what this perfect Knowledge is.
Because see, we search for perfectness, and we try to look for perfectness, we build up conceptions about perfectness but that is not the way to do it. I tell you,
in India I have met with every kind of person, I mean and even in America I have met with every kind of person and the atheist who didn't believe in God, not a scripture,
they didn't believe in a soul, I mean I guess they didn't even believe in themselves, know who they were, those people, now believe me or not, were the easiest, were the easiest to tell 'em
that there is something like God.
Because they had no conceptions about Him. Because they didn't have a big, giant story to cross over. They hadn't built a big big river, see. And this is what a person do, he builds a big river and then bigger the river the bigger the bridge gotta be. And the bigger the bridge gotta be, the more trouble you are looking for and this is, this is how it is, you know.
So really, first of all, I understand that maybe a few premies here have not realized Knowledge, and uh really for them instead of trying to build more conceptions on each other, try to take those conceptions away and that that is because conceptions are not always facts. Because remember one thing if you go to school, and here you are sitting you know and the teacher is teaching you algebra; and you get up and say now wait a minute, I didn't think it was that way, and you start giving your whole story about your conceptions. I thought it was this way and I thought, no, no, no, no I thought it was this way and I thought that you had to do it this way, and the whole you cannot go to school you know and say I thought that "word" was spelt W-F-D-E. you know and say, forget it man, you're gonna get nothing, like (laughter) so it's like first we have to cross ourself within inside of us our conception, our mind, whatever we have built up. And uh listen, it's like for many intellectual people, for many people really who have been involved in this world, they think, how can we do that? I mean how could we have even built up such a stupid thing? And sometimes they're afraid to check, they completely chicken out at the whole situation and they think that, how could we do that? You know and they're they're just not ready to face it, they can't face it. They can't just look at themselves and say, listen, I was spelling "word" W-F-D-E. And they keep on writing it, they keep on writing it, they keep on writing it. It's like they can never understand.
We read a scripture and it's beautiful. Not that, not that I'm trying to ridicule scripture, it's really beautiful. There is Bhagavad Gita, there is Ramayana, there is Bible - so many scriptures
in this world and they are all beautiful, they really are. They're, I tell you, if you want to read a story book, you know, try to read, try to read scriptures, they're the best.
They are really beautiful. You know it's like they just go on and on and on and they're really beautiful. And it's like all they're like everything is like interconnected to God,
and it's really, really beautiful. But again it's like they're trying to point to us, God is there, God is within inside of you. Where is God? Here. So they say "Oh, hi Mr. God"
(Maharaj Ji looks at finger again). That's it, they cling onto it. But premies, really that is the most beautiful thing is within inside of us and this is what we have to realize.
No matter who we are and what our age is and what we do. It's it's own private business, it's our own business.
But one that is like everybody this whole garland is made out of and remember one thing that maybe there are different flowers on this garland, and maybe they were taken out of different trees, and they are different years old or different days old, but that thread is one. And that one thread has the capability to take all these flowers out of different trees, to take all these flowers which were grown different times, to take 'em and to put 'em together in one garland, to be able to tie 'em all together. And this thread is like what the Grace is, what this Knowledge is. It has incredible, incredible capability of tying every human being no matter who he is, and maybe it's different words, maybe you didn't think it of that way, Maybe you thought of it as a bouquet, you know it doesn't matter, it's all the same. That one thread ties it all around makes a beautiful bouquet. And maybe you didn't think of that, you though of something else but besides that what we want to be, you know, is right here, is right within inside of us and that love that everybody wants to experience, that, that really that beautiful, beautiful vibration, that blissed-out feeling or whatever we call it, you know, in whatever languages we call it in, and it's, it's within inside of us and this meditation can really do a number, can really do a number, and really show us our real path.
Because we, you know, we, it's like, it all makes sense till one point.
Let me caution this, there are some premies, you know, who are just about ready to give up on this Knowledge, because nothing for them is fitting together, just nothing at all,
but remember you got a few more steps to go and everything is going to start fitting together. When you dive in the ocean and you touch the bottom,
because you've got these big huge flippers on, as soon as you touch the bottom just like all the sand just starts coming it's like a cloud almost, and you can't see anything.
And at that point you can say, wait a minute, I can't see anything so I'm goin' up. And you can just go up and that's it. But if you wait, just for a little while,
and let the sand settle back down, then it's so beautiful because the reason why you came you can accomplish.
But just because of that there was a sand blowin' up there or a whole cloud of sand was formed and just to give up for that and really you know
this is one more example I give premies: if you are gettin' confused, that means this Knowledge is workin' for you,
because all that confusing depository that you had, that piled up on your mind - the Knowledge is coming and drilling it open, and just it's takin' all this confusion and throwing it up in the air.
And so you know that this Knowledge is working for you because it's just untangling the whole situation.
And so really you know, it's it's beautiful, it really is perfect, but you have to have patience, and really be able to meditate this Knowledge, at this Knowledge. And then everything turns out to be very, very very beautiful.
And so really, you know, just meditate, try to really understand this Knowledge, try to give satsang to other people and blast off.

Darshan scenes from The Power of Love, Australia 1974
In October 1974 very few Australian premies had seen Rawat in person. "Mahatma" Padarthanand had been the driving force behind attracting new followers in Australia. So in the darshan line Rawat had to constantly give "Holy Breath." Here we see details of his technique in stop motion images. A series of photos of this magical interaction between the Master and his students with indepth expert commentary is available here.
From another angle more details of this incredible process are revealed. The Master recognises the call of the devotee for "Holy Breath." Does the position of the tongue matter? Only one being can know. He prepares the Holy Breath trumpet shape of his right hand perfectly pointing at the perfect place and then speeds His Grace on the way with an elegant follow through.
Marolyn Rawat's role was important. In 1974 Rawat had designated her as Durga Mata Ji, the surrogate mother to premies replacing Rawat's real mother, Mata Ji who had become disillusioned with her youngest son's decadent lifestyle and deposed him. Marolyn was also considered the perfect devotee and was much more attractive than Rawat himself. She sat below but at his side so the premies' feelings could be inspired and reinforced by her example. She was obviously sincere in her worship of Rawat.
And now abideth Satsang, Service, Meditation and Darshan but the greatest of these is Darshan. Darshan never faileth: but where there be Satsangs, they shall fail; where there be Service Area Management positions, they shall cease; where there be Knowledge, it shall vanish away." - Corinthians 13
Most of these people have probably ceased following Rawat sometime over the last 35 years. Certainly the elderly gentleman below who was a Sydney satsang regular in the 1970's is unlikely to be alive.
There was a lot of work involved in a darshan line. The ushers whose role it was to look devoted and keep the line flowing and pull premies up off Rawat's feet quickly with a minimum of fuss - a bespectacled Vic Marsh ushers. John Perry's head can often be seen bobbing about behind Durga Ji as he collects the donations.
The SatChewru - Prem Rawat usually sat before his speeches chewing on something, probably paan. Here he chews at his wife 25th Birthday party.
Durga Mata Ji's (Marolyn Rawat nee Johnson) 25th Birthday Party
Interlude
When Marolyn Rawat gave satsang, she often looked and sounded like a rabbit caught in the glare of a high-powered searchlight waiting for the hunter's bullet to strike her heart. This nervous intensity raised the emotional level and inspiration and was a wonderful contrast to her husband's confident but boring and ignorant screeching.
and somehow just the way that this man was speaking, and the things that he said, hit very deep within your heart. And you knew that, that there was something to this man and to this boat.
And he said, "I can take you across the river," but of course you really, you really don't know what's across that river, so it comes to a matter of, of trusting him and so you say,
"Okay, take me with you. I trust you" and you really don't know know at that first point but you feel that this is really what you've been, been looking for and so here we are, we're in this boat
and Guru Maharaj Ji's taking us across and maybe we hit some waves and we go "Oh brother, you know, I don't know if I should be in this boat or not. This is, this is pretty scary or
this is pretty "I'm not feeling very well!" you know I get seasick or maybe, maybe I should have just stayed on the shore but it's like there's still something else that you know that this
is the right boat and then you'll come to very calm, beautiful water and you know this is the boat that you should be on and that he's taking you somewhere that you've always wanted to go.
(swelling music) And yet you have the choice every second to stay in the boat or jump out of the boat and he's told you "If you stay with me in this boat, I will protect you. As long as you're with me,
as long as you're in my boat with me you have nothing to worry about. No matter what happens we we're going, and we're on our way to our purpose to why we were even born."
The movie goes out on an inspirational high with some more darshan scenes.
Power Of Love
Hard times have never been better
For you and I, it's the same
Together, we can be forever
With the sunshine and rain
You can, you can turn your head
And start to walk away
But it's the power of love (the power of love)
It's the power of love (tlove)
It's the power of love (oooh)
That makes us want to stay
All our lives, we've been trying
To get it on our own way
But each time we end up crying
With no words left to say
We can, we can turn your heads
And start to walk away
But it's the power of love (the power of love)
It's the power of love (love)
It's the power of love (oooh)
That makes you want to get up and do it
It makes you want to feel real free
Well you can spend your time like the sunshine
Can't you feel it, can't you feel the love that's in your heart
Shining forever
From the east to the west no takes no rest
In this hour of love
Within this shower of love
It's here we need to stay
You can, you can give in
And throw it all away
In this hour of love
Within this shower of love
It's here we need to stay
Forever
