Tim Hain
Tim Hain is a musician and long-time premie and "student" of Prem Rawat from the time the Satguru first left India in 1971. Hain's career exemplifies the contradiction in Rawat's followers. Unlike most premies whose beliefs are private, Hain has a public, albeit minor, presence in his musical recordings which demonstrates his overt worship of Rawat at least until the early 1980's when Rawat drastically changed the way he was publicly presented. Hain was an original member of the Anand Band and Blue Aquarius and he also played with One Foundation. He wrote You are my Savior in the late 1970's a song that was even quoted in the newspaper The Kansas City Star. It was the centrepiece of the Divine Light Mission video You Are My Savior which highlighted scenes from the 1980 Guru Puja festival in Miami Florida. Guru Puja means worship of the guru. It was also featured in the Divine Light Mission video of the Hans Jayanti festival in Rome 1981 and was on the One Foundation cassette tape, You Are My Everything (Part 2). He also wrote the popular (amongst premies) song, Meditating on Your Love when he was a member of One Foundation. It was included on the Guru Puja, Miami, 1979 Video, the Hans Jayanti '79 Festival Video and the Divine Light Mission video of the Hans Jayanti festival in Rome 1981. It was sung at the 1980 Holi festival and at the 25th Anniversary Concert in 1996, the 25th anniversary celebration of his arrival in the West in 1971.
Hain appears to have a dual musical personality. His commercial music is competent raucous bar blues and his own invention "bleggae" which can be sampled on Youtube. He sometimes performs with a cringeworthy mock Jamaican gangsta patois accent. Some of his covers including Little Willie John's "Need Your Love So Bad" and Buffalo Springfield's "For What It's Worth" are worse than cringeworthy. Then there is his music dedicated to the Living Lord, Prem Rawat aka Maharaji, in which his sentiments are not only cringeworthy but downright deceitful. This is the dedication from his latest CD "Firstlight"
With this album I wish to honour a friend who, for the past 40 years, since the tender age of 8, has ceaselessly travelled the globe reminding people of all races and persuasions that the peace we seek is not a commodity in the hands of so-called "world leaders," but a feeling of homecoming within every individual. It is a true friend who directs you to the threshold of your own heart, your own humanity. Last days or firstlight? Choose well…
Who is this "true friend"? He is the "Perfect Master" that Tim formerly knew as Guru Maharaj Ji, and called his Lord and Savior and who now calls Himself Prem Rawat and pretends he is an International Ambassador of Peace rather than than a pathetic failure of a Messiah who promised to bring a millenium of peace to the world. Actually he didn't begin to "travel the globe" until he was 14 years old and he's had oodles of time at home at his incredible Malibu mansion. He was pronounced the Perfect Master when he was 8 after his father died. Rawat preaches that he is the one and only source of true peace in the world. Formerly he taught it from a large throne wearing a crown and claimed to be the Incarnation of Jesus, Krishna and others and he should be worshipped each and every daya and Tim not only did that but has kissed Rawat's feet in gratitude on every occasion that he could. Tim sang that Rawat was the Lord of the Universe and the King Of Kings and possibly would still be doing so if he was allowed to. Now Rawat's remnant of followers pretend he is an internationally respected Ambassador of Peace and spend considerable time and money promoting that image. When Hain was young and idealistic he tried to taste the Nectar of the Gods by rolling his tongue backwards past his uvula and meditating on Rawat's Self-Knowledge but in his old age he rolls his tongue around the Nectar of the Scots. At least the whisky works in actually elevating consciouness.
According to Hain, Rawat "directs you to the threshold of your own heart." He supposedly does this through his Knowledge or Self-Knowledge. This Knowledge is basically pressing your fingers on your eyelids, squeezing your thumbs into your ears, thinking about your breathing and rolling your tongue backwards past your uvula (I prefer rolling my tongue around in a vulva). If we read between the lines of Hain's later lyrics it is easy to see that only the language Tim uses has changed and in fact the relationship is still one of a deluded devotee and his Perfect Master and Light of the World who is the mirror for the Truth, who has a timeless nature, who renews Tim's life through his words of wisdom, who shows him the way and frees him from himself. Hain prays he'll never walk away from his Master whose love is everything to him and is the love that can set you free. It seems to me that only God can have those qualities. Tim finishes his Firstlight CD with a 9 minute magnum opus in which he bemoans his angers, desires and his attachment to always being right. He really has no attachment to worry about because he certainly isn't always right, especially when it comes to his Master.
Tim Hain has appeared on quite a few Divine Light Mission/Élan Vital recordings over the years starting back in 1971. To me he was the highlight of the 1997 Long Beach CD with a rollicking version of "Feel Like A King" that overshadowed most of the spiritless, energy-free music on that CD. The lyrics include: "But the love I feel for you (you give me everything) is all I really want, I must be the luckiest man alive." Is he serious? How can that ugly little fat guy do that? It woulds no sense unless Prem Rawat is just what Hain said he was 25 years before and Hain explained it all in a song he wrote called "The Master I Adore" recorded on the 2001 Visions International double CD "Songs From A Mezzanine."
A Sample of Tim Hain Lyrics

Show me the way
Free me from myself
Take me away from the dark and misery
Open my eyes to the beauty that lies inside
Don't make me waste this life when in you I need to dwell
I've already spent my life on the borders of heaven and hell
Now I know who you are
Please open my heart to you
Take me to the highest mountain
And bathe me in the purest fountain
Cause you are my savior and I couldn't save myself if I tried
You are my savior and I pray
I never walk away
Cause I've been tempted by so many things
Pain and separation is all it ever brings
But you give me your love
And you life me above this hole I'm in
And you take me to the highest mountain
And you bathe me in the purest fountain
Cause you are my savior and I couldn't save myself if I tried
You are my savior and I pray
I never walk away
From you (are my savior)
You never let me walk away from you
I'm lost without you
Running around in an empty world
Believing that something here going to comfort me
Trying to put it all behind me
But you keep coming back to remind me
That only your love can set me free
Your love is everything to me
And you take me to the highest mountain
And you bathe me in the purest fountain
Cause you are my savior and I couldn't save myself if I tried
You are my savior and I pray
That I never walk away
From you (are my savior)
Don't ever let me walk away from you - repeat
The world stops when I look into your eyes
Always takes me by surprise
Feels so familiar, like I've already been there
To another world, so still, no place I'd rather be
Feel your gaze just melting me
Bringing me from all my fantasies
Just disappear, leaving me here
Meditating on your love
Me in my place
Meditating on your love
Me in your Grace
I'm riding on the rhythm of I love you
This is no place on earth that you're taking me to
But the heaven in your heart
Keeps me right where you are
So now, I managed to walk away from you
I don't know what drove me to
In a moment I'm miles away
Lost in the wild blue yonder
Is it any wonder
That you try with all your might
Just to keep me in your sight
Cause you know what's right for me
All through the day, all through the night
Meditating on your love
Makes life complete
Meditating on your love
You make life so sweet
I'm riding on the rhythm of I love you
This is no place on earth
Feel Like A King
You win, I lose my pain and my blues
You touch my heart and the magic begins
You bring a sparkle to the song that I sing
When I first met you oh Lord I was a beggar
But now I feel like a king
So strong, how could I go wrong?
You spin the wheel and the game begins
Nobody loses, I say nobody wins
When I first met you oh Lord I was a begggar
But look at me now, I feel like a king
Chorus:
I can walk on water
Throw my arms around the sun (you make me feel so good)
But the love I feel for you (you give me everything)
Is all I really want
I must be the luckiest man alive (I can walk on water)
You make me feel like a king
Oh Friend
Oh friend, You've been with me since my youth
Oh friend, a mirror for the truth
Oh friend, there are many things that I have miscontrued but there's one thing I have understood.
Oh friend, your promise doesn't change
Oh friend, and on this I can depend
Oh friend, as I journey through my joy and pain I return to this oasis again and again
Time can never contain or comprehend
The timeless nature of a friend
Time stands still when I listen to you
Words of wisdom ring true, renew, make life simple again
Oh friend,
Oh friend, on the road from birth to death
Oh friend, I can only catch my breath
And befriend this feeling that won't let me forget
That I, I have been gifted
And time can never contain or comprehend
The timeless nature of a friend
Time stands still when I listen to you
Words of wisdom ring true, renew, make life simple again
Oh friend, You've been with me since my youth
Oh friend, a mirror for the truth
Oh friend, there are many things that I have miscontrued but there's one thing I've understood.
Your friendship does me good and I'm so glad, yeah, for you, oh friend
Be Still / Movement Is Tranquility
Be still now that the waters are rising
Now that the waves of our undoing have begun to strike upon us
Just trust and be still
Pull to the one rock that no wave can ever wash away
Just trust and be still my brothers and sisters
I wanna be free of this anger
That scars me inside
I wanna be free of this desire
To jump into the fire
I wanna be free of my attachement
To always being right
Where there's darkness fill my heart with light
Be still now that the Master has spoken
Don't let the spell be broken
Carry this feeling, this feeling that beats within
Don't let it go, don't let it go
No, no, no, never let it go
Be still and know that I am
I wanna be free of this anger
To jump into the fire
I wanna be free of this desire
To jump into the fire
I wanna be free of this attachement
To always being right
And where there is darkness
Fill me with light
The Master has spoken
Stillness manifests
Shine on me
Love is the answer
So I won't turn my face away
This could be first light
Just trust
