Before There Can Be A Wedding There Must Be A Courtship or a Seduction
The Toad of the Universe Kisses the Older Woman Who Becomes a Princess In a Malibu Palace
Prem Rawat Had to Marry An Older Woman
It would have been illegal for Prem Rawat to marry a younger woman. Luckily for Marolyn Johnson the affair occurred in 1974. These days she would have been arrested and chareged with sexual abuse of a 14 or 15 year old boy.
A True Fairy Story: The Maiden Hops Into the Toad's Car and Off to the Palace
On May 20th, 1974 Guru Maharaj Ji the leader of a cult in which celibacy was enforced for the most dedicated devotees married. The Divine Light Mission press pretended that Prem Rawat's marriage was beautifully spiritual and that every premie was ecstatic and unfazed but the reality was that it was a shocking thunderbolt out of the blue. Only the inner circle of "X-rated premies" had known Prem was having a sexual affair or who Marolyn Johnson was.
He was 5 foot nothing, she was 5'10" or at least that's how they looked together. He most closely resembled a toad. She was not a great beauty but a tall, attractive California blonde. He required legal approval to marry. She required psychiatric help.
At the end of the ceremony Prem lovingly allowed his new bride to kiss his feet. A perfect end to a wonderful ceremony. The Divine LIght Mission was deep in doo-doo but nothing was held back for Prem Rawat. He was the major money priority. Prem Rawat was the Lord of the Universe so he should live in opulent splendour. Young Prem humbly acquiesced to his premies' demands and accepted the material rewards whether they could afford them or not.
Divine Light Mission was $600,00 in debt. Michael Garson, a former premie who worked in the Denver headquarters, presented an affidavit in a British Columbia court case that stated, "My analysis of the accounts of the Divine Light Mission indicated that approximately 60 percent of the gross receipts are directed to maintain the lifestyle of the Maharaj Ji and those close to him." The court froze Ms McLean's assets. One inheritance Prem wouldn't get his hands on.
Prem Rawat Proclaims His New Wife, Marolyn To Be a Hindu Goddess: Durga Mata Ji
Despite the DLM media hype Rawat got out on the road quickly to soothe any celibate feathers but that was not a problem. Those wanting to do what Maharaji's doing as well, left the ashrams in droves, making up for lost orgasms, getting married and cutting down on DLM's cash flow. It was not a great year.
"Durga Mata Ji: You and I are one, we're one heart loving our Lord and now He's joined us together in Him. I know this because I feel it so deeply and I know Guru Maharaj Ji loves you so much, more than I could ever, ever tell you and also in this marriage He's made me your new mother. And even though I'm a new mother. I I really don't know how to be your mother. But it's the child, the children that make a mother, a mother."
She turned out to be a huge plus for Rawat. Her intense and emotional satsangs contrasted with his own flat, boring or screeching, angry "satsangs." She already knew all Rawat's rituals so she just started sitting in on the other side of the curtain. Part of the entertainment, no the entertained.
Rawat staged an "Indian double wedding" for himself and his loyal and financially dependant brother Raja Ji and Raja Ji's trophy premie bride, Claudia Littman. It was the highlight of an otherwise boring, frightening and unsuccessful trip.
Times have changed and Prem Rawat is only a historical footnote.
Meanwhile, back in India, it's Satpal's family that is having media buzz over their weddings.
The stories are full of envy, not ridicule as the reception was to Prem's wedding.
The Wedding story flashed around the world. Quite possibly a new benchmark in unlikely husbands and trophy brides.

In 1975 some premies in the Australian Divine Light Mission produced this film, titled "Family Of Love". There is a short section missing near the beginning of the film. This contained particularly ridiculous scenes of the short, pudgy, puffing Rawat and his tall blonde new trophy wife doing Busby Berkeley type dance routines on the beach filmed from above. I presume they were cut out back in the 1970's to prevent even more mockery at the Lord of the Universe's expense. It contins scenes of the wedding and of a tour of Australia.
