Shri Hans' Teachings In His Own Words
(except they're translated into English)
The young Prem Rawat or Guru Maharaj Ji as he became in 1966 was only 8 years old when he became the Perfect Master on the death of his father (Hans Rawat or Shri Hans Ji Maharaj) and so was relatively uneducated in the practical and theoretical spiritual and religious knowledge ordinarily found in a guru of his lineage. He had picked up a smattering of his father's stories and parables but had none of the indepth knowledge of the Bhagavad Gita and the poetry of Kabir and Tulsi Das that Shri Hans had. His education was hampered by attending a Roman Catholic private school for a Western education and the time involved in acting out his role as Satguru in public functions of the Divine Light Mission and enjoying the fruits of his relatively wealthy Indian childhood. Shri Hans had been criticised for his lack of knowledge of the Vedas and Upanishads. Prem Rawat openly proclaimed, even boasted, that he had never read a scripture though he used a store of syncretistic quotes during his early career in the West.

All Powerful
Oh my Guru Maharaj Ji, You are all powerful, and the only guide on the right path. You saved me from unreality and made me pure and high, by taking me away from my lower nature.
From now on, whenever you see someone who is speaking against the worship of God, stop and ask him "How much do you know about God,
beyond the fact the He is all powerful, that He is everywhere, and that His love is unlimited?

All Powerful and Omniscient
As his message spread, Maharaj Ji would give open Satsangs, especially near the bank of the Jamuna River. Maharaj Ji had his own natural and novel way of speaking to the people.
He was against all outward show and shunned the pomp that many 'Sadhus' and 'Mandaleshawars' would indulge in. He never posed to be a religious man. He simply lived religion.
He opposed all outer forms of worship such as counting of prayer beads, penances, fasting and the like.
Once, when he was coming back from the Jamuna River followed by some of his admirers, he saw a Mauni Baba sitting on the sandy bank with crossed legs, answering the questions put to him by writing
on the sand. Maharaj Ji approached and sat before the Mauni Baba. He folded his hands in prayer, raised his eyes to the heavens and spoke, "Oh God, Thou who art omniscient and all powerful,
perfect and the creator of all, I see that even Thou can make mistakes. For why have you given this Baba a tongue when it seems as if he has no need of it?"
At this, all were startled and the pretensions of the Mauni Baba collapsed into anger as he shouted, 'What ! What is this you are saying?' At once all the spectators broke into laughter.

All Powerful, June 1966, at Dehra Dun, India
Today marks the celebration of Krishna's birthday. Many people say that God doesn't take birth. Why should God take
birth? Why should He do that? Devotion. God cares about his devotees. God is the object of devotion and He takes birth for the pleasures of devotion.
People who say that God doesn't take birth, say as a challenge that God's all-powerful. But for the same reason, people
leave all doubts behind to worship that all-powerful God. When God can do everything, then why can't He take birth?
If there's even one work He can't perform, then how is He all-powerful?

The Almighty gave man an intellect. Man built the airplane by using it, and even managed to reach the moon.
We should know that Almighty Father who gave that intellect to us. We should love our Father Almighty as

would soon become thirsty.
The technique by which we can meet that Almighty Father

Visualisation of Divine Light and the knowledge of the real name of the Almighty God cannot be acquired by study of books, performance of penance,
sacrifices or rituals or by counting of beads. It is acquired with the personal contact and with the help of the realized soul - SAD-GURU of the time
only. A candle cannot be burnt by recital of its burning formulas nor can it be burnt by its contact with any extinguished light.
It can be burnt by its physical contact with a burning light only. Similarly visualisation of Divine Light and Knowledge of His real Name
is acquired by the personal contact contact with and aid of the living realizED SOUL - SADGURU only.

Devotion is much greater than reading or writing. If you think that everything is in books, then point out to me even one man who might have acquired the true Knowledge or gained salvation by reading books. When the object of devotion, act of devotion, and devotee become One, then there is salvation, liberation, and by no other way. It is not attained by reading scriptures, by going to temples, bathing in religious places or donating offerings. Salvation is attained by Knowledge, constant devotion and regular remembrance of the Holy Name.

Buddha
Lord Buddha left his kingdom, his wife, his son and everything to find the Truth. He saw that this world is an ocean of grief and miseries. He knew that he would leave this world behind one day, so why not leave it now to find true happiness? He searched for Truth, got it and then spread it. That is why it is said that only what is available at the present time is valid. Only a living doctor, political leader and Spiritual Master can do good for people. We will benefit from asking the living Master who is here now.

Buddha Hans Yog Prakash, The Magnum Opus of Shri Hans Ji Maharaj
You remove the fear of this world. You are the very incarnation of good fortune, and filled with blissfulness. You are Shiva, the one who lets endless nectar flow. You are Generator, Operator and Destroyer, You are the Lord
of Lords, King of Kings, the most High. I do not know how to remember You nor how to meditate upon You. You are Lord Shiva incarnate.
My Guru is the incarnate Lord of this time. I bow before my Guru, who is greater than Christ or Buddha, for each of them was the servant of his Satguru.
He who gives us the lamp of true Knowledge is Satguru, He is God incarnate. If someone took Him to be an ordinary human being, his ignorance would make his whole life fruitless.
We cannot see God except in human form. No one has ever seen the Lord in any form except that of His Incarnation. We haven't seen God, and even if we try, we will not see Him. Why should we even speak about seeing Him, when we cannot even paint His picture without distortion.

St. Kabir says that whatever is done without the guidance of Guru, goes astray. Many people believe today that Lord Rama or Lord Krishna, or a flag, or the Gita. or the Ramayana, etc… should be taken as Guru, but nobody
bothers to think over what has been written in the scriptures. Guru Nanak writes, in the Granth Saheb that nobody should be mistaken, because one cannot get liberation without a Guru. One who was misguided can discard
hypocrisy upon getting the guidance of a Guru, and attain devotion to God. Guru is he who can transform a man into a god in no time, and can show an inner light which is more brilliant than the light of a hundred suns
put together. The darkness of night cannot fade away without the rising of the sun. Similarly, until we find the Satguru, the darkness of our hearts cannot vanish.

the result of true devotion to God and His Knowledge. This devotion and Knowledge is not acquired without satsang and the Satguru. All scriptures unanimously declare that to acquire Knowledge, the shelter of a true
master must be sought. Today the world does not search for a true Guru, but is rather engaged in whatever devotion it is attracted to. … Kabir has said: "As the rosary is being told by the hands, as the tongue is
repeating 'Rama Rama' or 'Krishna Krishna', the mind is still making circles of desires. What is the use of such devotion? External devotion and ritualistic practices will not give us knowledge of He whom we hope to
meet. If He is not met, if the mind is not engaged in Him, then of what value are these practices? They are all useless."

Divine Light and the Holy Name Give Constant and Unchanging Peace and Happiness
Since Divine Light is seen within and the Holy Name is known within, their realization gives a person complete understanding, of the source of life itself. The entire universe emanates from this source and so by knowing that all is known. The result is constant and unchanging peace and happiness and the deathless state of self-realization achieved. It is the time that world leaders try to spread this Knowledge if they really wish for peace. The individual should concentrate his mind if he wants to achieve the highest aim in life. The Real Guru Shows the Self-effulgent Light Within You
Lord Krishna said," Attain this Knowledge by all means. If you prostrate yourself at the feet of the tatwadarshi (seer or enlightened soul), serve him in every way and ask him sincerely for this Knowledge, when he is pleased he will impart it to you." This is the only way of getting that knowledge. There is absolutely no other way. But the problem is how to recognize the enlightened Guru? The word 'Guru' means 'the person who can show the Light within'. The term 'gu' stands for darkness and 'ru' means light. Hence, one who can show self-effulgent Light within you, and thereby instantaneously remove the darkness, should be taken as the real tatwadarshi guru. Thus we see that the only way of bringing about an improvement in human behaviour is the acquisition of this true Knowledge with the help of a living realized soul. The aims of human life - unalloyed happiness, deliverance from all suffering and salvation from the bondage of death and rebirth - can be attained by immersing the mind in the Divine Light and constantly meditating on the Real Name. Non-stop meditation on the Name gives mental equanimity, stability, tranquillity and complete concentration which in turn brings true peace.

The Great Incarnations Imparted the Knowledge of the True Name and Divine Light
To remember the Holy Name of God is the only essence in this world. That Name was one in the beginning, now also it is one and after the creation comes to an end, it will remain the same. That 'Name' is true since time immemorial. All other names given by people are false. All incarnations, Masters, Saints and devotees who came into this world, imparted the Knowledge of the True Name and Divine Light to sincere seekers, but this world is such that people ignore the present Divine Masters and after they are gone, celebrate their birthdays without knowing the depths of Spiritual Knowledge, and think that this is all that has to be done for salvation. They are not concerned in the least with what our great Incarnations talked about and taught the devotees of their time.

Truth and Peace Are Only Possible Through the Satguru Prem Nagar Ashram, Hardwar, India
Truth can be realized and peace established by the realization of Divine Light and the Holy Name of God, but this is only possible through the help and guidance of the Satguru of the time and by no other means whatsoever. … Permanent peace can be achieved when lust, greed, hatred and fear are overcome by people en-masse. But this is only possible by the control and concentration of mind. Only Knowledge of God's Holy Name and realization of Divine Light enables man to gain the concentration necessary to achieve eternal bliss.

Truth Can Only Be Imparted by the Living Spiritual Master - Satgurudev Shri Hans Ji Maharaj Published by Divine Light Mission, B-19/3, Shakti Nagar, Delhi 7, India - 1970, 8th November, 1970
Knowledge of the soul cannot be attained simply by reading the holy books. It is only a living spark that can give us light. The truth can only be imparted to us from the living spiritual Master. … Guru and God are one and the same entity. One is given form while the other is formless. "I and my father are one." (John, 10; 30) Thus, the knowledge of the self can be attained only at the feet of a living spiritual master. … The Divine Light has been variously named by different spiritual masters. It is called Elahi Noor in the Koran, Chandna in the Guru Granth Saheb, Noor by saint Kabir, Bhargo in the Vedas, Param Prakash in the Ramayana and Divya Jyoti in the Upanisads. It is possible for every man to experience this Divine Light through the grace of the living master. This light is but the radiance of our own true inner essence. It is the true responsibility of man to know this light, to experience God and become one with his maker. For it is man's function to find God. Without this knowledge man is but an animal in human form. … It is possible for every man to experience this Divine Light through the grace of the living master.

Discourse - Param Sant Sadgurudev Shri Hans Ji Maharaj (Prem Rawat's father and Perfect Master of His time)
How did the saints become great? Because all of them remembered God's Name and meditated upon His Divine Light. People are engrossed in illusory things and have forgotten God and hence suffer from various worldly problems. A devotee wants to meet God but worldly illusions keep him away. It is well known that the soul is indestructible. So the souls of all creatures, whether living on earth or in water or in the sky, are indestructible. Moreover, new souls are not made, all of them have existed since time immemorial. It is also written that there is such a thing as salvation. Souls worthy of salvation achieved it and the remainder are bound to the cycle of birth and death. Those who did noble works got heaven. So, where have the liberated souls gone? Guru Nanak Dev Ji says, "Light has merged in Light". Lord Krishna says in the Bhagavad Gita, "There is no difference between Me and the gyani". So, we should also search for the true Master and acquire Spiritual Knowledge from him.

If the touch of an enlightened soul is absolutely necessary to get this Knowledge, how can it be possible to get it from a Guru who has left his mortal body?
Lord Rama, Lord Krishna, Lord Jesus Christ and Prophet Mohammad would not have called upon the people of their times to come into their shelter and consecrate mind, body and actions to them. Lord Rama could have said, "Seek the shelter of Narayana." Lord Krishna could have told Arjuna, "Seek the shelter of Lord Rama." Jesus Christ could have told people to seek the shelter of some previous Master. But they did not say so simply because they were enlightened and they knew perfectly well that past enlightened souls cannot help the average aspirant to attain enlightenment.

you think that he would have named Christianity as his religion? Would Lord Buddha have said that his religion was Buddhism? What is that religion which they all followed themselves and which they spread for the sake of all
mankind? … In fact, we all are sons and daughters of one
and the same Almighty Father. We should love, respect and serve each other. You know that Jesus Christ imparted the knowledge of Divine Light and Holy Name. He also healed sick people, gave bread to hungry people and money
to poor people. Today people believe in Jesus Christ, they spread Christianity but they do not know the Knowledge which he imparted to his disciples.

Since Divine Light is seen within and the Holy Name is known within, their realization gives a person complete understanding, of the source of life itself. The entire universe emanates from this source and so by knowing
that all is known. The result is constant and unchanging peace and happiness and the deathless state of self-realization achieved. It is the time that world leaders try to spread this Knowledge if they really wish for
peace. The individual should concentrate his mind if he wants to achieve the highest aim in life. This is the only way to integral peace and happiness.

Shri Hans Ji Maharaj (Prem Rawat's Father) The Essence Of Life Is Rembering Holy Name (shabd)
Kabir sumiran saar hai, aur sakal janjal. Simran - Remembrance of Holy Name is the essence of human life.
I am of the opinion that remembrance of the Holy Name of God and meditation on the Divine Light only will do you good.
So, everyone should take advantage of the opportunity of this human life by acquiring the knowledge of Holy Name and Divine Light.
This is the religion for all mankind. This is the Light, which is beyond moon and sun and this is the true and easy method to concentrate the mind. The purpose of human life is to acquire the highest peace, that is, salvation. God is truth, consciousness and bliss and is one and the same for all. So there can be only one religion or one path for all mankind.

Discourse - Param Sant Sadgurudev Shri Hans Ji Maharaj (Prem Rawat's father and Perfect Master of His time)
To remember the Holy Name of God is the only essence in this world.

Every man has within him the eternal essence. He is in fact, part of the totality of its essence. This word of God has the ability to manifest itself in a potent form in order to bring mankind closer to its truth. This

In fact, peace can be permanently established on this earth if the right efforts are made in the right direction.
Peace is not simply the negation of war, but it is the negation of the warring tendencies in man. War exists in the mind of man and
it is from there that it must be uprooted. Man can be cured of his warring tendencies by infusing his mind with the vision of God.

… If the people of the whole world acquire this Knowledge of the Absolute Truth and concentrate their minds on the Holy Name of God, their gross nature will be transformed and man will look upon each

Why should we even speak about seeing
Him, when we cannot even paint His picture without distortion.
The Incarnate Lord, who has always worked in this way, and who has never had any desire for the fruits of His actions, remains eternally free. And so it is with anyone who lives in this way, no matter if he lives in
a great city where vice and corruption abound, viciousness cannot touch him. A lotus leaf floats on the surface of the water, but still it does not become damp. In the same way, a man such as we speak of can remain free of
sin even if he is dipped in the sink of iniquity.

"I prostrate before the Master who is God in human form, whose words are like the sun in eradicating the darkness of delusion". So-called gurus nowadays bestow a rosary or teach some words or a verse of a scripture to their disciples and tell them to remember it as the True Name of God and people accept such gurus as real Masters. But St. Tulsidas says that such gurus are not true Spiritual Masters. Only the one who wipes out darkness and kindles the Divine Light within the heart is the true Spiritual Master. 'Gu' means darkness and 'ru' means light. The Word of the Master is as powerful as the sun. Darkness goes away immediately when the sun rises. Similarly the Word of the Master removes the ignorance of lust and attachment and wipes out sins.

Know the real Name of God. Concentrate your mind on it and remember it constantly, irrespective of your faith which may be Christianity, Islam, Sikh or Jain.
The Name which can be remembered during both sleep and dream should be known and meditated upon. A being remembers the same Name in the womb of the mother but forgets it on taking birth.
About the same Name it is said in the Gita, chapter 8, verse 7, "Remember Me at all times and fight." Nobody can say that he cannot meditate. The Name pervades in everybody's heart.
Hanuman showed by opening his heart that it pervades throughout the body. But until one meets the Perfect Master who imparts the Knowledge of that Name, which exists in the heart,
it cannot be known. The Name is beyond the twenty-six letters of the alphabet. It is beyond expression.

they could have been relieved of all sorts of miseries. But being engrossed in worldly comforts, they have again forgotten God. So they will have to suffer miseries again. Everybody remembers God while he is in

with all its good laws and civilisation, its scientific inventions and discoveries, its technological innovations and the conquest of nature, all represent attempts by mankind to find happiness. But we can see by looking
around us that their actual results are only unrest and unhappiness, anxiety and frustration. Real happiness has not been obtained, peace has not been found, and suffering has not been removed, instead the situation has
arisen when the very existence of the human race is threatened.

Discourse - Param Sant Sadgurudev Shri Hans Ji Maharaj (Prem Rawat's father and Perfect Master of His time)
So, during the human life-span, actions can be performed as well as enjoyment experienced. If one does not acquire Spiritual Knowledge and meditate while he is in a human body, then he is bound to fall into the clutches
of birth and death. It has been happening since time immemorial. … Do not waste this human life, which has the potential for such marvellous actions, in lust for worldly pleasures. Do not waste it for nothing. Search
for that meditation and remembrance which is called Shankar Bhajan, by doing which human life becomes meaningful.

The rivers of the world have been entering the ocean for ages, but the ocean is not yet filled, nor has the source of water been exhausted. In the same way, countless wise men, ascetics, saints, prophets and
Incarnations have told the glory of God's virtues in different ways, and the listeners have also died, but neither the virtues of God nor the listeners have come to an end. So many Incarnations have
manifested! In the future a greater and more powerful incarnation may manifest Himself, and one who will recognize Him at that time will be benefited thereby. Less attention is paid to prophets in the present than to
those who came in the past. Most people follow the beaten path. In other words, by relying on the name of past prophets, they forget God and always think of materialism and the satisfaction of pleasures. They restrict their
thinking by adopting scriptures compiled by only one Incarnation or Saint

God's fascination is infinite. Up to date, no prophet, seer or Incarnation could know its mystery completely. Yet all have said in the end that we should discard attachment to materialism and remember the Name of
God. … There are two types of Divine Incarnations, perpetual and motivated. A motivated Incarnation is one like Rama or Krishna. They did not remedy the disease of the world; instead they destroyed the diseased. For
example, Lord Krishna destroyed a huge army in the fighting described in the Mahabharata. Nobody survived except the Lord himself and five devotees. Perpetual Incarnations are those saints who destroy the disease
instead of the diseased. In other words, by imparting the Knowledge or 'True Name' and 'True Light' of God, they remove the darkness of ill will which exists in people's hearts. Then instead of doing wicked actions, people
take to godly actions. In this way the influence of the Dark Age comes to an end, and the era of the Golden Age appears.

Sublime devotion, however, comes from implicit faith and confidence in the Satguru of the time, and it must be clearly understood that only He who can bestow God-vision instantaneously within oneself is
the Satguru of the time, and no one else. In reality, He is God incarnate. It is impossible to have unflinching confidence without personal experience of this divine light
Who Is Guru Maharaj Ji? Published in November 1973 by Bantam Books, Inc.

Hans Rawat (father of Prem Rawat quoted in Satgurudev Shri Hans Ji Maharaj)
The Arya Samajists did not believe in the principle of Avatar Vad, while Maharaj Ji had full faith in the principle of the incarnation of God.
The unmanifest God can only be realized through the grace of the manifested one. He often used to quote the Gita, "Whenever virtue subsides and wickedness prevails I manifest myself.
To establish virtue, to destroy evil, to save the good, I come from Yuga to Yuga." "Fools deride Me in my manifested human form, without knowing My real nature as the Lord of the universe".
Such is Shri Krishna's declaration in the Gita on incarnation.
Satgurudev Shri Hans Ji Maharaj

Hans Yog Prakash, The Magnum Opus of Shri Hans Ji Maharaj
The Incarnate Lord, who has always worked in this way, and who has never had any desire for the fruits of His actions, remains eternally free. And so it is with anyone who lives in this way, no matter if he lives in a great city where vice and corruption abound, viciousness cannot touch him. A lotus leaf floats on the surface of the water, but still it does not become damp. In the same way, a man such as we speak of can remain free of sin even if he is dipped in the sink of iniquity.
When the world staggers in the darkness of spiritual blindness and even the leaders of nations know not the path which leads to peace; when all work is done in the ignorance of selfish thoughts and men forget that they are each other's brothers; when the path of Truth and Yoga disappears in the undergrowth of materialism - then the Lord Himself out of His boundless compassion incarnates in human guise upon earth, to lead mankind once more upon the shining path of righteousness. Spiritual masters come onto the earth out of compassion for suffering humanity, and bring True Knowledge which gives peace and the bliss of Self-knowledge. There have been countless masters and saints and their disciples became the messengers of God.

A History of Hans Jayanti
If God is omnipresent, He cannot leave. The Perfect Master is His embodiment; he also cannot leave. Hans Jayanti is a celebration of the soul. It is a festival of worship for that spirit which is continuous upon the earth, that energy which is bound by neither birth nor death, the life force of the perfect Master.
It is Shri Hans Ji Maharaj (Shri Maharaj Ji) in whose honor the Hans Jayanti Festival is held. Late in 1966. Shri Maharaj Ji left his mortal body, having dedicated every breath to spreading the Knowledge of God. The time had come for that perfect energy to manifest in full power and glory. It chose the body of an eight-year-old boy, Balyogeshwar Shri Sant Ji Maharaj, son of Shri Maharaj Ji.

In the beginning mind does not get hooked easily to the Divine Word and so one is required to practise this again and again. When the mind is settled in the Word, then automatically it gets detached from the external world. But, how to know this Divine Word? We have to strive to know it. We have ten organs - five organs of action and five sensory organs - eleventh is the mind, twelfth is the intelligence. That Word cannot be known through any of these twelve organs. In the eightfold path of yoga, meditation is the seventh step and union of meditation, the Meditated (Divine Word) and the meditator is known as 'samadhi'. Knowledge of God is acquired in that state. This is to be experienced.

How did the saints become great? Because all of them remembered God's Name and meditated upon His Divine Light. People are engrossed in illusory things and have forgotten God and hence suffer from various worldly problems.
A devotee wants to meet God but worldly illusions keep him away. It is well known that the soul is indestructible. So the souls of all creatures, whether living on earth or in water or in the sky, are indestructible.
Moreover, new souls are not made, all of them have existed since time immemorial. It is also written that there is such a thing as salvation. Souls worthy of salvation achieved it and the remainder are bound to the
cycle of birth and death. Those who did noble works got heaven. So, where have the liberated souls gone? Guru Nanak Dev Ji says, "Light has merged in Light". Lord Krishna says in the Bhagavad Gita, "There is no difference
between Me and the gyani (Knowledge)".

Only the remembrance of the Holy Name of God can relieve you from all these miseries. All of the worldly attainments will be left here. For instance, the people who crossed over to India from Pakistan had to leave all their
possessions behind; similarly, at the time of leaving the world, everything will have to be left here. The refugees remembered God while escaping from Pakistan; had they continued to remember Him with the same enthusiasm
they could have been relieved of all sorts of miseries. But being engrossed in worldly comforts, they have again forgotten God. So they will have to suffer miseries again. Everybody remembers God while he is in

light which does not require a lamp, a wick or fuel to illumine it. In the Gita in Chapter 15 verse 6, speaking about the same Light it is said: "There the light of the sun, moon and fire does not shine." The same brilliant
Light has been described as Chanda and as Noor. The one in whose heart such a brilliant Light shines, does not have to suffer hardship even in a dream. In other words, bad dreams never come to him.

From his birth to his death a man tries to attain constant happiness and hence to be immune from troubles and suffering. In most cases he does not succeed. Instead he continues to get himself tied up in doubts and
anxieties. His periods of happiness are only short-lived and true happiness, like the mirage, remains an illusion for him, but which nevertheless he continues to chase, wherever he thinks it can be found. Modern society
with all its good laws and civilisation, its scientific inventions and discoveries, its technological innovations and the conquest of nature, all represent attempts by mankind to find happiness. But we can see by looking
around us that their actual results are only unrest and unhappiness, anxiety and frustration. Real happiness has not been obtained, peace has not been found, and suffering has not been removed, instead the situation has
arisen when the very existence of the human race is threatened.

The supreme Lord knows human weaknesses, therefore He manifests Himself in the form of Satguru to reveal the mystery of His own Divinity and to give to His devotees the opportunity of performing service at His Holy Lotus Feet.
Those who have been blessed with the Divine presence of Satguru will undoubtedly be saved and never be abandoned to the clutches of birth and death. Such devotees are always in peace and attain the state of immortal bliss.
Let us beg Him sincerely to grant us His devotion and love and nothing else. Really blessed are those devotees who have bathed in the intense love and the unalloyed devotion of the Lotus Feet of Shri Guru Maharaj Ji, who is the highest manifestation of God and the embodiment of truth, love and compassion.

But without finding his Satguru, he will never know the secret of Truth. After he has found his Satguru,
a disciple should serve Him as a son serves his father, opening his heart, and regarding Him as God personified.
The Lord God has said, "Know your Guru as Myself, the Lord." We should understand that Guru is the most powerful manifestation of the Lord.
If we understand this, our minds will automatically turn to our Guru before we start to do anything.

Prayer of Shri Hans Ji Maharaj Ji to His Perfect Master Sarupanand Ji Maharaj
O my Guru Maharaj Ji, Lord of all Lords, I ask nothing more than to serve You day and night. If only I might see my living Master, I would tell Him all my sufferings, weeping, and rest my head on His Holy Feet. I would tell Him everything.

Hans Yog Prakash, The Magnum Opus of Shri Hans Ji Maharaj

In the same way, the divine Light which is self-existent in all beings is God without physique, whereas the Satguru of the time, or the realized soul, is God with the physique. Submersion of the mind into the divine light; obedience and service to Satguru together with supreme love for Him; consecration of body, mind, and all activities to Him; together with a great anguish for the slightest forgetfulness of Him, constitute sublime devotion.
