A Pictorial History of Prem Rawat: Less Successful Years: 1974-1977

Prem Rawat was humiliated by the press at the Millenium 73 fiasco/festival. He wanted to assure that he's never be questioned again. The press were happy to print stories detaileg the desparate state of DLM and it's scandalous Lord of the Universe. The DLM administration decided to cut the "hype" settle the premies down and become a charitable NGO, Divine United Organisation, with Rawat billed as a "humanitarian leader." This was a big ask for people to swallow especially as it was flagrantly untrue.

Shape Up Or Ship Out

Shape Up or Ship Out

"If you have faith that this Knowledge is gonna get you somewhere, then shape up and tell people about it. If you don't, forget it, ship out. There is nothing more."

Prem Rawat 1974

Prem Rawat would drop the colourful costumes and become grey and bland like his eldest brother. DUO would have meetings, workshops, brainstorming, retreats and nursing home visits with short haircuts and wear suits in local communities with scheduled satang, healthy activities, small businesses and child care and only do the "Bhole Shris" and "Jai"s and foot kissing in private.

I was in Denver and finally I got the chance to be able to go through the whole organization, the subsidiaries and everything. It's so amazing. I mean, it's terrific. The potential of premies is too much. It's even too much to imagine what they can do. - Prem Rawat 1974

The new 1970s premies show their profound insight into life

DUO Premies 1974

After an opening presentation by Jerry Thrush, a group dynamics consultant, on communication skills and planning, the initiators brainstormed their goals and got to work. They met with people from various IHQ departments, Unity School, and Denver DUO, touching on topics such as community development and education… Alongside these discussions, they travelled to the mountains for a retreat - Divine Times

"I still sincerely think that this Knowledge, the Knowledge of God, the Knowledge of our Creator is our solution. Many people might not think so, and carry a completely different opinion … I think this Knowledge which I have to offer this world, free of charge, is the answer. … I do not claim to be God but do claim I can establish peace on this earth by our Lord's Grace and everyone's joint effort. - Prem Rawat 1/1 75

Spiritual group's claims: Teenage Guru to Change Style

Prem Rawat 1976

In March 1975, Bob Mishler - still DLM president decided it was time for another publicity campaign. DLM and Maharaj Ji would come out of the closet again. No more "the Lord has come" crap. Just the message: Knowledge can help you gain profound insight into life. What was he thinking? It doesn't.

Pseudo-Knowledge

Some Premies in Australia had the Courage to Discuss the Paradox of the Practice of Knowledge - Golden Age No. 31

For those who haven't heard, pseudo-Knowledge is a term for doing all the external activities associated with the practice of real Knowledge - going to satsang, working for Divine Light Mission, sitting down for an hour morning and night, speaking softly (or loudly, depending on your concept), eating vegetarian … However, many young Australians who have supposedly been practising Knowledge for two or three or four years, still find their lives going violently up and down, still experience paranoia, still have trouble giving satsang, still find it hard to get on with this person or that person. So something, it has been surmised, is wrong: either Maharaj Ji's got his wires crossed and Knowledge isn't what he says it is, or else

Things became so bad amongst the premies at one stage that Prem Rawat had to stop pretending everything was great … in his own way

"And I am trying. There is just no need to bother about it. Everything is okay, and everything is under control. That's one thing I thought you should know. Everything is okay, so don't bother. Everything will be taken care of. I am trying. Thank you very much." - Prem Rawat
