Prem Rawat's Teachings about Begging - In His Own Words
Prem Rawat, or Maharaji ("the Ultimate Ruler") as he calls himself has placed an extraordinary onus on the necessity to beg him for the faith, the devotion and surrender he said was required for the Knowledge to work ie provide infinite bliss and merging with God. He says he is the current Perfect Master in the line of Perfect Masters which are incarnations of God and includes Krishna, Ram, Buddha, Jesus, Kabir, Guru Govind Singh and his father, Hans Rawat and his father's guru, Swarupanand. These Masters have all revealed the same secret Knowledge that is the only source of peace and union with God in the world. He rarely mentions this in public these days as, after all, it is an outrageous claim to make as neither he nor his followers have any outstanding characteristics even after decades of meditation. He can be seen in the Visions International (a division of Élan Vital) video called 'Beggar', in which he was speaking to people wanting to have his techniques of meditation revealed to them. And from whom should a person beg? It's pretty easy to understand.

Yogiraj Param Sant Satgurudev Shri Hans Ji Maharaj Prem Rawat's father, guru, teacher and predecessor as Satguru
He who thinks Guru Maharaj Ji is a human being is blind. He will remain very unhappy in this world, and death will not relieve him of his sufferings.
Guru is greater than God, it's common sense. People who think about God stay in this world. But those who know Satguru pass beyond suffering, and attain perfect freedom.
If you want to know the secret of what I am saying, offer your head to Satguru. Many proud and arrogant people went down the drain on account of pride.
There is no giver like Guru Maharaj Ji, and there is no beggar like His disciple. Guru Maharaj Ji gives His disciple the wealth of heaven and Earth.

See, there was a devotee of my father in Delhi, and he used to do meditation. And he became very perfect in it. He made it in such a way that even the glass of water, you see, had to rise and come before his table. So he
became very proud of himself. So he invited Maharaj Ji to have a dinner at his house. Maharaj Ji came. He was sitting, and he said, "Maharaj Ji, sit down there in the chair." Maharaj Ji said, "Okay, I will sit down there.
Don't bother. But why are you feeling so proud of yourself? The thing for which you are feeling proud will dispel now." And he went away. And after that, nothing happened for that man. Then he came to Maharaj Ji; that
rich man had turned into a beggar. And then he has died now. These are called ridhis and siddhis, but magics and all these things, are not true. And it is said, "Where this Knowledge is, no evil can come near
that."

Krishna says that you can have Knowledge by all means, but you will have to go to a Satguru, to a true Master, with a beggar's heart.
Q: What do you do before that?
That is what I am telling you. Prepare for it.
Q: How do you prepare for it? Do you prepare for it by meditating?
I'll tell you. Listen to me first. Go to a true Master with a heart like a beggar. Go to him, request him, and beg for that Knowledge. When he is pleased with you, he will give you that Knowledge, he will reveal that
Truth to you.

But if I want to go to Guru, if I go to Guru and beg Him, He says, "Okay, take God!" That's why he said that if you go to God, He will give you some wealth and some ordinary pleasures, but if you go to Guru, He will
Himself give you God. Guru is that man that gave you the key for hidden treasure. Hidden treasure, that you were searching from time immemorial. Today we just read book and ask questions about that. But remember that His
every second, every quarter or half of a second, is precious. Because can you think of something higher and holier than God? And He is Himself everything. He is God. Say, "You are Creator of whole universe, you are
Destroyer of whole universe, you are kindness, you are Peace, you are Light, you are everything for me." The giver -- only Guru. Taker -- we are. How can we become Guru? What is that thing -- that why don't we become Guru?
Why can't we become Guru? You were not able to become a general; how can you become a Guru? People have said, "Okay, we want to be Guru." Guru said, "Okay, you want to be Guru? Okay. Take it. Be." People felt it, said,
"No, we don't want to be Guru." They begged at His Lotus Feet. Why do people surrender themselves? Why do people do pranam? Indication that they want to surrender themselves. One pranam, and one year's whole karma
out! And do more and more pranam, and more and more karmas out. People will say that "If you are God, if you are Guru, why don't you say?" If I will say, then people will kill me. How will I be able to give this
Knowledge to more and more people?

When I go to a true Master and I beg him for Knowledge and he reveals me the Truth, I have perfection in my heart. I feel that creation and nature and Light and peace. Because if you have read the scriptures, then
you must also have read what a true Master will give.

Guru means the one who takes us away from darkness and puts us into Light. He takes us away from ignorance. Whenever our Perfect Master comes in this world, he has never just stayed in the caves or in his room, but has
always come out and shouted before people, "Come and realize, come and know, come and understand." It is our duty to understand. This Knowledge is such a great thing that we must go, ask, beg to have it given to us. We
must not lose time, we must not waste time just because we are so concerned with these materialistic objects. It's okay if you think your hobby is to be connected to materialistic objects. but connect yourself to the
Knowledge, realize the Knowledge also.

And in Gita Lord Krishna says about this Knowledge to Arjuna, really beautiful explanation, and then Arjuna asks that, "Lord, what is the way to receive it?" And Lord says, "Go to the Perfect Master of your time and rid
yourself of all your desires that you have in your heart. Go with no ego in front of Him. And go with a heart of a little child, and beg Him, ask Him, request Him. And He will give it to you." And it's like, "Knock, and
it shall be opened," you know, and, "Ask, and it shall be given." It's like, then, instead of taking the truthful meaning of that, we completely get stuck in the scripture itself. But it says to go to a Perfect Master, to
go to that power that can reveal us this Knowledge.

You see, there is a lot of difference between dedication to Guru Maharaj Ji and the active membership programme. See what I mean? Just in terms of that, the active membership programme was really, really needed, and it
is still needed for the organisation on whatever scale it is to run; but it's not what you call dedication to Guru Maharaj Ji, direct dedication to Guru Maharaj Ji, that people give to me when they come in the darshan line
or whatever the systems are. It's not that kind of a dedication. It is for the organisation. Now if I say, yeah, that's really true, that we don't need that much more money to keep the organisation going on, then that
would be really something else, because then 'pouf whatever you have, nobody is going to give anything. So that's a really smart question you know; but the way it's put, it's such a circular question that it's hard to tap
in, to get the answer out of it, unless something is worked out more properly with it, you know. And I think that that active membership has done some bad things for this organisation in terms of where people don't have
enough money to give 10 per cent of whatever they make; they don't make anything. And there has been a line sort of drawn - you've the bad guy, and there's this other guy who would give this 10 per cent to a beggar
anyway, who gives his 10 per cent, and doesn't really practise satsang, doesn't really practise, doesn't do any service, and he is a perfectly O.K. active member. And he is respected.

So now, that's something we should really, really beg in our hearts. Yes, it's wonderful to sing it, but even more wonderful to really, really, really - more than anything else, just putting everything else, the
things that we kind of want to do, the things that we really want to do, the things that we would love to do, that we want, that we desire - just putting them all aside, and just really: "Please, Maharaj Ji, please! Can I
please feel devotion? Can I please learn devotion? And only you can teach me." Because I really feel we've come to that point where there is nothing else that can even attract us anymore; that we've experienced too much of
Guru Maharaj Ji to just even get distracted by anything else. That we now have come to the .point where we've realized that devotion to Guru Maharaj ii is just everything. It's it! It's the highest thing that we can feel.
It just carries us along in such a way that - it's perfect! It's perfect that I should feel devotion for my Guru Maharaj Ji. And yet I don't know how.

To find this Knowledge you have to go to the Satguru of your your time and then beg him and he will reveal it to you. And premies, now we have to really realize that by Guru Maharaj Ji's Grace … Look at it this way, by Guru Maharaj Ji's Grace, Guru Maharaj Ji gave us an opportunity to be able to receive Knowledge. And by Guru Maharaj Ji's Grace, Guru Maharaj Ji gave us an opportunity, a blessing, a discount, and he gave us darshan, his Grace. And now he is giving us another opportunity to have faith in him. It's an opportunity. I don't know why some people think, "Wow, man, he's really asking a lot." No, it's the world's most wonderful discount that ever could be, to have faith, to be able to have faith in Guru Maharaj Ji.

Because Guru Maharaj Ji gives us the … We have to beg for Guru Maharaj Ji's Grace. We have to make way for Guru Maharaj Ji's Grace. We can't command Guru Maharaj Ji. We can't command Guru Maharaj Ji. Once there was
a king. And this king came to Guru Maharaj Ji's court, and everybody was sitting there. Guru Maharaj Ji was giving satsang. So he just came in, sat down. And Guru Maharaj Ji was saying that the power, the Grace of Guru
Maharaj Ji, can make anything happen. It's incredible. It's so powerful, that even Guru Maharaj Ji's Grace, the darshan of Guru Maharaj Ji, can take the sins of his past life and clean it all up.

But surrender to Guru Maharaj Ji is, "Oh Guru Maharaj Ji, show me. Let me believe in you. Let me trust in you. Let me be with you so I can see. Give me your insight, so that I can see what you can see. Oh Guru Maharaj Ji,
help me." That's what it basically all boils down to: "Guru Maharaj Ji, help me." And I know that because of our ego - we have been taught: "Kid, never beg in your life." I know there are people who have this concept:
"Never beg in your life. Never be a beggar." And sometimes you get a letter like that, or somebody tells me that there's a premie who has an idea that he just doesn't want to beg. Man, you don't have to get on hands
and knees and cry out loud and beg like that. But we all are beggars, because we take. We don't pay for it. How can you ever pay for it? We all take. We take what we are given. And we are beggars. We beg for that
gift and that gift is given. We need to beg for that most ultimate, ultimate, ultimate thing. And the giver of that ultimate thing is Guru Maharaj Ji.
The Golden Age, April 1979, Number 52

Holi, Miami, Florida, 8 April, 1979, afternoon
There is one song that goes "Without Guru Maharaj Ji, nobody is going to find the path." And it just becomes so obvious in our lives that, yes, we are made to be dependent on somebody, on that perfectness. We have to rely
on that perfectness. We have to be a beggar. And we have to be the "most humblest" beggar. Not just a beggar, but the "most humblest" beggar. Because everybody is a beggar. There is this one poem by Tulsidas. It
goes, "In this world, you should do two things. Accept Holy Name and give peace." And that's what you have to do. You have to be a beggar. And to understand that, and to beg from your heart. Because what else can you
do? You can't go up to Guru Maharaj Ji and say, "By the power vested in me, 0 Guru Maharaj Ji, I order you to reveal me Knowledge, give me Grace and satisfaction in my life." I mean, that would be a little bit too
outrageous. And Guru Maharaj Ji will go, "Get out of here. Take your power and go swimming with it. Go fly a kite." But to beg for that Knowledge in the "most humblest" way. That's what Krishna says. You have to get
rid of all your "cheats," your tiny nooks and crannies of this mind. Give it all up. With a humble heart approach the Perfect Master of the time and beg for this experience.

Guru Puja, Miami, Florida, Sunday Afternoon, July 22 1979
Guru Maharaj Ji is saying, "I'll help you. Let me help you." I mean how easy can it get? Guru Maharaj Ji is saying, "Make those three steps in your life and I'll take you and help you. I'll help you for the rest of the
million. I will help you. Let me help you. Let me take you. Let me carry you. Let me give you that love. Let me give you what you have wanted for such a long time in your life." And Guru Maharaj Ji doesn't offer any
theories. And Guru Maharaj Ji isn't offering any random points, so to say. What Guru Maharaj Ji is offering is what he has to offer to us. And we have to become beggars in our lives. We have to accept it. That's what we
have to become. We have to become beggars in our lives. When were we givers, anyway? When were we rich in our hearts, anyway? What are we rich in? Our hearts lie empty. Our feelings lie empty. Our emotions lie empty.
And Guru Maharaj Ji comes and fills our life up, fills our life up with love, fills our life up with that kindness, fills our life up with that understanding. Guru MaharajJi comes and shows us -- through his mercy, through
his Grace -- shows us his love.

"To get on my hands and knees and to beg, it feels so good. (shouting) It feels so good to beg. You know why. Because when we do get
on our hands and knees we realize we had never for anything to give to anybody anyway. Born beggar. To beg the Ultimate One in our heart. To beg that Emperor for that solution in our heart. The most majestical thing
that happens to a human being or can ever happen to a human being. To open myself up, me, to beg Him, a moment between me and the Ultimate Being. A moment for me to have with that Ultimate Thing, a personal audience
(shouting) and I know that when I beg the Emperor is listening to me. (shouting) In this whole world the Creator of billions and billions and billions of souls is listening to me. The Sustainer, the Generator the
Destroyer of this entire (long pause) thing, not just the world, above and beyond by His Grace I have captured a moment between me and Him and nothing stands in our way. It is complete, it is the Ultimate, it is real and
when I become like that in my heart then that Gift is given to me (shouting) a Gift which is a part of Him, a Gift that's His, Him, He doesn't just give a third thing, He gives Himself."

Festival Of Knowledge, Brussels 10th December 1989
if you truly are a subject, subject of this magnificent Creator who through mercy and love and kindness has done the most impeccable job of creating this planet earth then I ask you in which sense, in which way are you reflecting that perfection which so kindly has been bestowed upon you. Which way? How have I learnt it? Very simple, be a beggar. Much better, much better to be a beggar and to beg and you'll receive and you know even beggars have priorities. Did you know that? You may not have known that but they have priorities. If they got a phone call they both spend talking on the phone, they'll go out and beg. Priority number one, they need to go and beg, they know that and we need to have a priority too, to be able to beg and you think it's easy to be able to beg? Oh no, I mean I can just smell it, I can just sense it through my antennae like over voltage coming in. Beggar, me a beggar? People sitting in there "I can't be a beggar. I work so hard not to be a beggar and he go tells me 'become a beggar'. What's he talking about? What's he talking about? Nice metaphor Maharaji. Nice metaphor. Get on with what it is you really want to say."

Open up your heart. Be a real student, a person who is totally dedicated. Though I know that you have not the capability to become one. So pray for this also that you may become a student. Be a devotee. But I know, you
cannot become a devotee. For this too, you have to beg that you may become one. If you want to become a devotee, you can become one. But you do not know that you have to become a devotee. So far you have been a devotee
of only one thing and that is maya (illusion). And if you are left alone just for one minute, you will again become a devotee of maya. Apparently you don't know how to practice real devotion. You only know how to practice
devotion of maya. You can become a devotee of kali-yuga (dark-age), but if you want to be a true devotee, for that also you shall have to ask

Sail, sail the winds of grace, fill your sails and be ready to cross the oceans. Be there for your life as it is there for you. Hear what you heart has to say and be silent as it speaks. Be the companion of the dearest
friend within. Be ready for the never-ending friendship. Be the father of joy in your life, as be the mother, the son, the brother and the sister. Be all that you are and be the beggar and the giver of this joy. Be that, be now, be all, be all.

A lot of people think fulfillment will change the whole world for them. It won't. What it will do is let you know where your true home is. The reality is that peace is within me whether I am a beggar or I'm a king.
It doesn't matter to peace. We see such a big difference between the two - a beggar and a king. But think about it. What does the beggar really dream of? Becoming a king. And what does a king dream of? "I wish my life
was simple like that beggar." So different, yet so similar. Both are looking for peace. The beggar thinks, "If I become the king, I will have peace." And the king says, "If I become the beggar, I will have
peace." These are differences that we have created.
