Prem Rawat's Teachings about Service To Himself - In His Own Words
Most people did not experience anything approximating the wildly exaggerated claims the young guru and his early core group of followers were making about the effects of meditating on "the Knowledge" but the young Rawat explained that meditation by itself would not produce the bliss, a person also needed to continually hear and give satsang and do voluntary labour and make financial contributions to both Rawat personally and Divine Light Mission. He called these activities service (Hindi: seva).
Divine Light Mission Glossary. Service: Selfless actions performed out of love for the Perfect Master and compassion for the sufferings of humanity. The first service any disciple of Guru Maharaj Ji has is to inform people that the Perfect Master is here, offering them the gift of eternal life. In practice - although service often involves setting up for programs and video events, ushering, security, and the like - it can also entail working for one of several companies owned by Élan Vital, or donating money towards Maharaji's personal expenses.

Mahatma Gurucharanand
The supreme Lord knows human weaknesses, therefore He manifests Himself in the form of Satguru to reveal the mystery of His own Divinity and to give to His devotees the opportunity of performing service at His Holy Lotus Feet.
Those who have been blessed with the Divine presence of Satguru will undoubtedly be saved and never be abandoned to the clutches of birth and death. Such devotees are always in peace and attain the state of immortal bliss.
… Let us beg Him sincerely to grant us His devotion and love and nothing else. Really blessed are those devotees who have bathed in the intense love and the unalloyed devotion of the Lotus Feet of Shri Guru Maharaj Ji, who is the highest manifestation of God and the embodiment of truth, love and compassion.

In the same way, the divine Light which is self-existent in all beings is God without physique, whereas the Satguru of the time, or the realized soul, is God with the physique. Submersion of the mind into the divine light; obedience and service to Satguru together with supreme love for Him; consecration of body, mind, and all activities to Him; together with a great anguish for the slightest forgetfulness of Him, constitute sublime devotion.

Christ spread the Knowledge of God in his time; what was that Knowledge? In many places, temples have been constructed, but in each temple the worshippers see the statue of only a single Saint. When they come and listen to satsang, then we say to them, "The God you worship is our God also." When Knowledge of God is spread through the whole world, there will be one religion. The Knowledge will be spread through mahatmas, because, without these great souls, it cannot be done.
So now, premies, we have to realize how that time is approaching and how we have to do service through which we will he able to understand better how this Knowledge has to be spread to everyone and tell them how beautiful is God's creation and how beautiful is this Knowledge.

My age is so little, my body is so small, I can't serve you as a military officer. I can't serve you as a police constable. The only service I can do is to help you by giving that Perfect Knowledge which you are now seeking in materialism. Every materialistic thing is perishable and after they have perished how will you know the God? You will perish one day, you should know such a thing, that is imperishable, never will perish and that is the Holy Word, the Holy Knowledge of God and that is within you.

So this is the true and sincere love that they developed through this meditation. Nothing else could develop this love in
them, only this meditation. And if you want again to know this true and sincere love you can do so through meditation and service, because they did service also.

Birthday Satsang, December 11, 1971, Prem Nagar Ashram, Hardwar
So today in this frustrated darkness in this world, only the Perfect Lord is the bright shining sun for every darkness in the world. And if you have known Him, far-out. There is nothing that can be more than That. It is the endless limit if you have known the Lord of the time. So, through the knowledge, you realize Him. This knowledge is the medium through which you realize who the Perfect Lord is. And through meditation and service we serve Him and be one with Him. So, what I have told you just now I think is important.
Reflections on an Indian Sunrise, 1972

Patna, Bihar, India, December 25, 1971
Only the Supreme Lord, Saint of all saints, Omnipotent and Almighty, can close the mouth of the
whole universe and shower the Knowledge of self-realization. Otherwise, the small whistles are not heard in the midst of
such big drums. Therefore, my dear aspirants, now that you know that Knowledge of Self, fulfill your aim. That is the only aim; that is
the only goal. If a man knows that goal and recognizes it perfectly, he can come in perfect contact with God Almighty, his own Supreme Father, whom he has forgotten.
If you have got the Knowledge of that Word, then meditate constantly. Do service under the Lotus Feet of your Lord, and listen to satsang patiently. It is written in the Ramayana that when a man is very fortunate, only then does he find satsang, and when he finds satsang and attends it, he is liberated without any effort. Again, it is said, "Have darshan of Guru Maharaj Ji." Why? Because it is written in all Vedas and Ramayanas to have darshan. So touch the Lotus Feet. "Lay yourself down in the vast, unbounded ocean of Mercy underneath. Bathe and swing on the waves and sink inside. Drink the nectar of Mercy and Grace and Blessings, and be free from all sins."

it is service anyway and we are hooked up to service not to what we are doing because we, this, this human body, this mind is absolutely crazy and if we hook ourselves to this little computer which we want to all the time and that I'm, I'm sorry about that but (laughter) I wish it wasn't possible anymore and we, this, this little crazy computer and all the time we do is take this little cork and put it back again and this little computer is freaked out completely and it makes us little freaked out too and this is the way that - service is the only way, you realize it. I cannot tell you how, I cannot tell you how. I 'm doing a service and I'm doing a service and this is a service that has been given to me by my Guru Maharaj Ji for me to complete in this world and I'm doing it and I tell you, I'm the happiest person in the world, (laughter) at least one of them and because in my life I have realized one thing and then have I realized the meaning to that thing and that's what I want you to realize.
Well one of the solutions was Knowledge which has been given to you, now the best part of it if you want to come ahead, do it because you will be helping the whole world to get peace what I think we should do and it's the most practical method of doing it because if we try to do it by ourselves we were so crazy we couldn't find God that's why we have go to somebody who can show us God and then again with the same freaky mind we try to accomplish things in this world tell me how will you able to do it? You know, it's like, it's like you have got broken headlights in the daytime and you're trying to use it at night time. How will you use them? It's all broken, they don't work so that's why the condition is. We've got this old freaky mind and this was all freaky, we couldn't decide, we couldn't find God so we go to a Perfect Master and he shows us God and he shows us the Knowledge, he shows us, he reveals us the secret and then we turn back again and start using the same mind for other reasons. The same old freaky mind is gonna guide us hanky-panky take us I don't know where but if you realize that perfection, if you realize the depth of and then follow it to that man who can see it more clearly, our destination that's much more better because he can see more clearly our destination we have to reach than we ourselves can ??? understand.
Perfect Master Tape 006

Los Angeles California, April 20 1974
We have assembled here because I think yesterday I said people who wanted Holy Breath could come today. But really, before we start going and do any satsang, or before I start giving Holy Breath to premies, I think it's really important to understand the purpose, the meaning, of what all this is, because many times many premies are talking about service. Many times I am talking about service; many times Mahatmas are talking about service. And I believe many premies are doing service, but after all, what does it mean? … In the same way, this is what service can bring us. Anybody can receive Knowledge and sit in his home, try to meditate. He'll probably understand something for a little while, but then there is a little touch, there is a little feeling, there is a little communication and he won't have it, you know for some time he'll just end up not doing meditation and the next thing he knows he's getting confused and then next thing he knows, he doesn't want anything anymore. And it's like, uh, he doesn't care for Knowledge, he doesn't care for anything and then many times premies see that and they, they get all confused and they come to me and say, "Guru Maharaj Ji, how come this Knowledge is so important for these people and how come that guy received Knowledge and it isn't important for him? He doesn't like it anymore."
… once a person has received Knowledge and he is doing service, he is in touch. He is doing service for Guru Maharaj Ji because this is for whom we are doing service. Then that experience just grows and grows and grows and it grows and same way, this is, this is the whole meaning, this is the whole meaning for premies. Why, why am I telling premies to do service? You know that's the whole reason, so that they can understand, they can come in more touch, they can realize

And it's the Grace that brings us there, the Knowledge which brings us there and I can tell you one thing right now, that in Guru Puja I really, really intend to get this mind straightened out, out of almost everybody who comes to Guru Puja. Because (Bolie Shri Satguru Dev Maharaji Ki Jai from crowd) because it's getting pretty heavy each day and the way, the way we will set up Guru Puja will be better than Montrose, the one we had in Montrose, will be a lot more beautiful and it's like there'll be Arti two times, and everybody will receive Holy Breath, everybody will receive Darshan, who hasn't and there will be Arti two times, one in the morning and one just before satsang program and it's like if this Guru Puja goes the way I have planned it in my head, by the time it's over, the mind should be out, I mean out (enthusiastic Bolie Shri Satguru Dev Maharaji Ki Jai and Hooray from crowd) and so I want, that's all I want you to do is to get the word around that ah how important it is, how fantastic it is, really.
Perfect Master Tape 014

John F. Kennedy High School, Denver Colorado, May 12 1974
What is the purpose? Why? Why is this Knowledge revealed to them, to the premies? There is a definite purpose for that. Really this is what we should try to understand now that we have received Knowledge. And I'll tell you what the purpose is: to actually do service. See, before Knowledge, whatever we do is also service, but it's a service to our stomach; it's a service to our mind. But what service we do after Knowledge, to Guru Maharaj Ji, to spread this peace into this world, to bring that Love, to bring that joy that we all have been waiting for, to work in that direction, is called service and then the second thing comes, agya. Because the mind is so strong, a human being from the beginning is unable to determine that whatever next thing will I be doing, will it be a real service to the spiritual path or not. …
So premies, what we have to understand is that what we have to fight today is mind. Once we eliminate that mind, that problem, that'll be for once and all. And, it's like, a little service, very, very little service, that probably a little kid could do, even counts towards the victory over mind, to the defeat of the mind. Even that little service. I'll tell you one thing: when a war breaks out, before the war, if a child takes a brick, or a child takes a glass of water from one place to the other place, it doesn't really matter. When the war breaks out, and everybody is being shot, and people are getting wounded, and people are thirsty, that same child living in the same town can bring that glass of water again, and it'll be very. very precious. Even that one glass of water will count to the victory of that country. That single little thing will count towards victory.

And so, all I have to really say is that all the premies - you might make an exception here and there - are doing just great. Premies are really progressing along, and it is really materializing. It isn't a matter anymore of you coming to a hall, listening to Guru Maharaj Ji first tell about all the miseries of this world and then say how fortunate we are to have Knowledge. Okay, that's true. But this time, all I have to say is that we're all doing just really beautifully. What Guru Maharaj Ji promised us, what this Knowledge promised us, is really materializing in our hearts. We are really understanding the process of satsang, service and meditation. Every day of our lives we are realizing more and more of its importance. And you might as well call me somebody who is really strict about this. I'm still going to emphasize how important satsang, service and meditation are even though you're progressing along fine. I'm still going to say, "You need satsang, service and meditation, because that is The Way. It is a process. It is the process." You can't whack these three things out of balance either: satsang, service and meditation. If you give too much importance to meditation, nothing is really going to manifest because you're not doing satsang and service. This is the way it is laid down right on the line. Not just by me, but from Perfect Masters all along. They just laid it right on the line: satsang, service and meditation. … So if you have realized the joy and the pleasure behind satsang, service and meditation, then you will want to do it again and again. It is there. You have experienced it and you want that experience. Why do you want that experience? Because it's the experience of your life. I'm not saying that you are God. But God is within you. I'm not saying you are the ultimate power. But that ultimate power is within you. And you have to really realize this is a completely self- sufficient system that is within inside of you. There's so much to discover. There's so much in there that the more we go along, the more beautiful it becomes, the more flowing it becomes. The more we go along, the more we really start to understand what this life is really all about. Because without that understanding, as I said, people take misery and life and mix them together, put them in the suitcase, and every time they open it, they find out that life and misery are together. No. Life is really not misery. Take that misery away. And the special compound that you need to take the misery away is satsang, service and meditation. By applying this process again and again, the shinier life starts getting and the more it's cutting into that misery.
Élan Vital, Volume III, Issue 1, Spring 1979

This is what people should understand, if anything, and this is what people should do: you can do more service to humanity by realizing this Knowledge, propagating this Knowledge, giving people satsang about this
Knowledge, than by doing anything else. Even if you become emperor of this whole world! Because who is Guru Maharaj Ji? Guru Maharaj Ji is perfect. And this perfect Lord doesn't come down Himself one day, grab everybody by
the throat, and say, "You better realize Knowledge, otherwise I am going to chuck you out into hell." He doesn't do that. He even comes down into this world, bears that physical body, bears the pains, bears the
suffering of this physical planet, and gives Knowledge. But if you look at Him, He is the ultimate. He doesn't need to come into this world. He has got so much power, He could manifest Himself in front of everybody in this
world and ask everybody personally a question, He wouldn't even have to come down into this world. All He would have to do is come down out of the clouds and speak loud one day, and say, "People who are not going to receive
Knowledge are definitely going to hell." He never does that, because that's just the way it is.
The Golden Age Number 39, July 1977

Guru Puja Celebration in Caracas, Venezuela, July 25th, 1975.
I am here to tell every premie who has realized this Knowledge to do meditation, satsang and service.
The Golden Age Number 23, September, 1975

Sao Paulo Brazil, 4 January 1976
Let me explain to you a little bit about mind. See, the way mind works is that before you receive Knowledge, mind is totally driving you totally crazy. Then when you receive Knowledge it's a big blast for you, it's a big change for you, it's a big thing. The mind says, "Well what's this?" And you say, "Well, this is your medicine, Mr. Mind. This is gonna take care of you forever." The mind says, "But I don't want it." You say, "Well, you are gonna get it anyway." and that's where the determination comes. "You are gonna get the medicine anyway. We are gonna wipe you out anyway."
So the mind goes away for a little while, and that's when premies who have just received Knowledge are very blissed out. They go, "Oh, this is just so beautiful." That's when they write me letters saying, "Oh Guru Maharaj Ji, thank you. This is just so gorgeous, this is just so beautiful. Thank you for this Knowledge; thank you for everything." And that's when they move into the ashram, that's when they start doing service. Because there is no mind there, there is no mind to interfere.
Well then, after a little while, mind sits back and says, "This is very, very bad. I cannot function. I, I, I mean, this is very, very bad. This man is controlling me. This person is controlling me, while I am supposed to be controlling this person." And so the mind says, "Well, let me have another try on this guy." So it comes, it starts freaking you out, and you say, "Mind Ji, Jai Satchitanand, go on your way. Forget about it. It just won't work." And mind goes away. Then you feel really blissed out and you feel really confident, "Oh, this mind came and I got rid of it." But, you see, it just so happens that mind won't give up so easily. So it sits and it designs; it plans the most perfect way - just about perfect - a very, very good way, that it can get you.
One morning, while you are sitting under your meditation blanket, it comes up to you and says, "Premie Ji, Jai Satchitanand." You are sitting all by yourself in your room, everybody is doing meditation, and immediately you take your covers off and look around. "Who said 'Jai Satchitanand?' " You put your covers back on and start doing meditation. Then the mind says, "Premie Ji, uh … don't you think you have been doing service for a very long time? Don't you think you have been sitting for meditation now for about five minutes? That's a very long time. You have been sitting here for five minutes. And you have been doing service for two days now. That's very bad. You know, you don't need to do this. Everything is okay; now that you have Knowledge, everything is okay. You don't need to do service, you don't need to do satsang, you don't need to do meditation." You say, "Man, I sure do feel tired. Yes. I have been sitting for meditation for five minutes now, and I have been doing service in the ashram for two days. What do they think I am anyway? I am not gonna do any satsang, I am not gonna do any meditation, I am not gonna do any service." Then you chuck your baragon out the window, throw your blanket away, and you walk out of the ashram. And mind just got you. That was it. That's all it took.
The Golden Age Number 30, June 1976

Lisbon, Portugal, May 14, 1976
But then comes service, because there's satsang, service and meditation. That's meditation, and then comes service. Now what is the part? Why do we even need to do service?
I mean, where does service fit in? And it's very fine. It's very beautiful, but very fine. Because the whole idea, the whole basis, is on surrender.
And if we really and truly surrender ourselves, then what do we become? We become a servant. And it's not a servant of Mr. Joe Blow, but it's servant of Lord, servant of Almighty.
Élan Vital, Volume II, Issue 3, Fall 1978

Montreux, Switzerland, 21 May 1976
And in the same way, because Knowledge is a beautiful experience, for people who have not really put their everything into it - because this is something that you have to put your everything into - those people almost wish somebody had to sit there and do satsang, service and meditation for them, because they don't want to do all that, they just want that beautiful experience. But a person who really puts his whole self into it is going to get that experience. That ultimate experience, that ultimate love, is only one love. We try to imitate it by doing this and by trying to do that, but there is sincerely only one love, though we have, of course, found lots of methods to imitate it. But that one sincere love is towards Knowledge, is towards that truth and we have to really experience that, we have to really realize that, and start putting ourselves into it.
And It Is Divine, Volume 3, Number 3, Autumn 1976

Paris, France, June 8, 1976
Because the last example I gave was like, satsang, service and meditation are like this -- there's this gap in our lives, in
the whole system. There's Knowledge and there is us, and there's a vast gap in between. And this gap is because
Knowledge is infinite and we are finite. And the two things just can't go together so good. Because one is infinite and
one is -- one is perfect and one imperfect. So there's a vast gap, and a bridge has to be built over it. And this bridge has
to be built by this cement which is called satsang, service and meditation. Meditation itself is the cement, it is the cement
-- without that you can't do anything. All you'll have is water and a stir stick, and about all you can do with that is just
stir a lot of water. Nothing's going to happen And then satsang is the water, and service is the stick. And the better the proportion of those three, and the better they
are mixed, the right amount of water, and the right amount of cement will make an excellent base to build the bridge
with. When the bridge is completed, then the gap is completed. The gap is finished.

That is the difference with Knowledge. Knowledge is going to lead your life so that it can bring you to that realizm which is missing.
When is this really going to happen? How this happened to the premies it has happened to is when they have really, really taken themselves and made that dedication to be able to do satsang, service and meditation. Because that is the process and that is what Guru Maharaj Ji has given us. That is what Guru Maharaj Ji has shown us, that this is the process if you want to experience truth. I have never, nor am I going to, go into trying to explain what the experience of truth really is. As far as I can go into that is to say that there is an experience of truth, and it's beautiful. My desire, my will, and this is my service, is that I want you to see, I want you to, for yourself, experience that experience of truth. This is what everything is all about, this is why we are premies, this is why we do satsang, this is why we do service, this is why we do meditation, because we want to experience that truth. Like I was saying, this isn't a phenomenon. This isn't the mystic thing any more. This isn't what Joe Blow says, because he has stayed with Guru Maharaj Ji five more years than we have or he received Knowledge in 1948, therefore he is bound to know the experience of truth, so let's all go gather around him and ask him what the experience of truth is. And this Joe Blow never did meditation in his whole life. Yet we rely so much upon him. We sit down around him and say, "Okay," and he explains to us the experience of truth. That's really wierd, that's really fake, that's really not truth. Truth has to be experienced by each of us individually. I mean, this is what's so beautiful, you know?
Golden Age Magazine, No. 34, November 1976

And you know, it's, that's the way this mind works, it just goes on and on and on and on and on and on and on. In that, in that one hour of meditation, so what are you meditating on,
more you're meditating on mind than you're meditating on, on the Knowledge that has really been revealed to you. So listen, it is a very simple process but when you have to fight with mind constantly, it isn't so simple because you have a fight on your hands and my suggestion to premies is don't fight it, a lot of premies have tried to fight mind, don't fight it, it's very powerful, it's a very strong absence, don't enter it. First of all you have to be more present, you have to be more stronger than your mind to fight it. If you can't fight it, don't join it either, don't acknowledge it, let it happen, let it do it's trip, let it just, let it do it, let it get tired, don't acknowledge it. When it says "Go get the glass of water, don't, don't say, "Huh, I'm really thirsty" and you probably finished a whole 5 gallon bottle of water an hour before that or 15 minutes before that. Then you'll be thirsty, then you'll be hungry,
then you'll be thirsty again. And you know the mind just throws you around and around and around in a loop but don't acknowledge it, just keep on going you know just keep on having that sincere try, just let it keep on going and really come and become simple and for once experience satsang, service and meditation in our life, let us pick up, you know just, just let's all come back home, there's nothin' out there, you know we just said, "Huh, I'm gonna pack up my bags and I'm gonna get out and I'm gonna see what's out in this world. And a lotta people did that,
a lotta people packed their bags and say "I'm gonna go out and see what's in this world." But they went out in this world and next thing you know you get a call from a hospital and you say "What's the matter with the guy, what's the?" He got robbed, he got beaten up and everything else happened. Not in the sense of really getting robbed and beaten up but the mind just robs you of your experience that you have, beats you up and puts you right back into the hospital and that's it. There goes that experience.

A lot of people suddenly decided to move out of the ashram. Well, that is up to them, but a lot of people also started to feel that they're stranded in this world, because maybe they weren't quite ready to move out of the ashram. Besides the fact of ups and downs and highs and lows, there's only one very important thing that we all have to understand and recognise, and that is that we have to come back home again. If we cannot come home again, and we have gone too far off, it's just not worth it. We have to come back home again, we have to come back to satsang, service, and meditation, and we have to come back under the shelter of Guru Maharaj Ji, because that's about the best shelter there is.

And that one reason why we are all here is because we love each other. Is because I love you and you love me is the greatest reason in this whole universe to be here, and to always show up again and again and again, in time immemorial, as Guru Maharaj Ji and devotees, 'til there is the blue sky, until there is a brown earth, until there the ocean roars. So premies, let it go on, let it flow. It always - all the premies in the whole lifetime have wanted to have satsang, have wanted to have darshan. Well, we went through a lot, well, we're back again, and we're back again home. I'm here and you are there. I don't want anybody in between, and I'm pretty sure you don't want anybody in between. If you want to unite with me, you have now an opportunity to do so by satsang, service, and meditation, and by the opportunities provided by these satsang programs to you now, premies.

And the only method that is most successful, and the only method there is, is satsang, service, and meditation. And to give it all a super dose, there is darshan, and these programs, the way they're happening. So premies, let us all really come together, let's really become one in that bond, one in that tie, one in that love, and go ahead. There's no power in this whole world that can stop us from experiencing what we want to experience. Not even mind, if you're strong enough. There's nothing. No power in this world, that can stop us. Just - all we have to do is have faith in Guru Maharaj Ji. Have faith in me. I'm here to help you, and I will help you. But sincerely have faith in me. Not in some, not in some way, not in some manner, or particular manner, but just have faith in Guru Maharaj Ji, period. And let it all happen, let it all begin.

And we have to make that step really happen in our lives, so we get out of that chakra. To me, I would be less bothered
-- I am less bothered -- about anybody becoming a mule, a horse, an insect, or going through the 840 million thousand
-- whatever it is -- forms of life. That's nothing. Oh, I've seen a dog smile. I have! Nellie, at the Malibu residence, smiles. I'm not bothered about that. That's probably
really neat for her You look at some of the dogs -- they travel better than most of the people in this world! Look at Gin-Gin. You look at Nisa.
Traveled in a private airplane all the way: a little cat. I mean, we have the group of Nisa (that's a beagle). Galvin (that's a Siamese cat), and Dudley (a pug dog). This cat (Galvin) has been there for a very long time. And he thinks he's a dog, this cat. It plays with the dogs. Dudley licks Galvin and Galvin licks Dudley. They both go around eating out of the same place. No fight. Nothing. And they have a dandy time. What have they got to bother about? I know of people … I mean, you look at Nisa. She's always in a great mood, jumping around everywhere, doing what she wants to do. Then you look at Bill Patterson who walks into my office sometimes. I mean, he's got more to bother about than Nisa does. And if you call that hell or if you call that a stage of suffering, it's not too bad. It's better than the human life. It really is!

No, there is also Guru Maharaj Ji. And there is also Knowledge. You dedicate to that. Not to this world! Because what are you going to dedicate to this world? Your life is way too much precious. You are
too much precious to get caught in a leash of a situation, and to be ground up, merely be eaten by some iron jaws. And you see thousands and thousands and thousands and thousands of people devoured every day, literally, in
the vault. But Guru Maharaj Ji is that saviour and we have to have that trust, and we have to have that faith. And you know, I can't wait for that day when 20,000 of us will be sitting in Orlando, all over again,
just to be there in satsang and service. So much service, lots and lots and lots of service, and to be able to just do it, to be there.

Somehow, here we are anyway, being able to experience that Grace, being able to experience that Knowledge, being able to have the privilege of doing
satsang, service, and meditation; having Guru Maharaj Ji, praying to Guru Maharaj Ji, listening to Guru Maharaj Ji, and dedicating our lives
to Guru Maharaj Ji.

All we have to be is be humble! All we have to do is get rid of our incredible, idiotic ego and go to Guru Maharaj Ji with our sincere
hearts and say, "Help me!" Say that little prayer to Guru Maharaj Ji: "Guru Maharaj Ji, you're
all. You can do anything. I am nothing in this world. Help me because there it is. What I have done in this life is such a web."
Guru Maharaj Ji says, "Look, that's chancy. Do it slowly and easy. Pray to Guru Maharaj Ji. Become one with Guru Maharaj Ji. Surrender to Guru
Maharaj Ji. And then it's possible." So premies, how lucky can we be to have a Guru Maharaj Ji? And now we have to try to surrender. Do satsang, service, and meditation
Someday, somehow, will you please find it in your heart -- if you ever do, Guru Maharaj Ji -- to save me from this world? Take my mind away. Take me and put me into your feet where you really are."
And you know, this is the incredible thing. All that sounds great. But when we truly pray to Guru Maharaj Ji, from our heart, he does blink. He does move his little finger and it all does disappear. That's the fantastic part of it, the incredible part.

And to have faith in Guru Maharaj Ji, to believe Guru Maharaj Ji, and to have that devotion towards Guru
Maharaj Ji, is to me the most ultimate experience of this Knowledge. Devotion. Never, ever has a Perfect Master gone up to his devotee and said, "Listen
devotee, because you have meditated enough, I grant you a wish." No. "You have been a devotee. You had devotion. You have surrendered. You have
done service. I grant you a wish." And what wish did Hanuman ask when Ram said, "Okay Hanuman, I give you a wish. You may have anything you
want"? Did he say, "May I, every time I come in this world, have Knowledge?" No. He said, "Look, I don't want liberation." He said, "I want devotion."

Ashram Satsang, Guru Puja Lingfield, June, 1979
So, it's nice to see there's a lot of ashram premies, perhaps not enough though. The reason why I wanted to see you all to me always has been a thing, always will be, ashrams are very special place. In the ashram there's a real experience to be had in the ashram is really a shelter that Guru Maharaj Ji provides (laughter) and uh we need some translation ?? here And yet I can't say and I don't think anybody in this world can say that they don't need Guru Maharaj Ji's shelter. I mean all of us, everyone of us needs that shelter and to me ashram can be a really beautiful experience for everyone of us if we are sincere about it, if we are sincerely seeking a shelter, if we sincerely want a shelter, if we really want to be saved from something, if we really want to be sheltered from something. …
Premies who want to live in the ashrams have to be sincere about living in the ashrams. There's no point to live in the ashram just because you want a shelter over your head. There's no point to live in the ashram if you just want to live in the ashram for the sake of it because there is a real experience in the ashram that you can have, there really is and it is a very important aspect, it's a very important way, it's in fact such an incredible thing because it can like to
really assist us, it can really boost us in the experience of our Knowledge, in the experience of Guru Maharaj Ji …
And what Guru Maharaj Ji offers is a shelter from it all, in where you can really be in satsang, you can really be in service, you can really be in meditation.…
There is an opportunity, there is a place where you can sincerely just dedicate your life to to Guru Maharaj Ji. To me ashram is the next thing to being an initiator cause that's where I choose my initiators from. There's not one single initiator that is now, was or will ever be who has not stayed in the ashram. Cause that's where the experience can be gained.

I mean it's just perfect and yet the slightest deviation from that experience, the mind is just sitting there waiting to get us. Which way it will get us? We don't know. How it will come after us? We don't know. How it's going to manifest in front of us, we don't know. In time, in time, I mean it's like we're even naïve to that fact. Human being is even naïve to that fact. And Guru Maharaj Ji comes in this world and says "No, wait. There is a mind and it'll get you." It's almost like that's it's service, that's it's job, that's why it incarnates,
to get you. And Guru Maharaj Ji says "I come in this world to rid you from it, from that mind because all that mind will bring you is suffering after suffering after suffering and what I can bring you is that true love, true joy, true peace, true happiness. And you know in this life it's such a paradox, so many times, what to do cause you're helpless against the mind. It's too strong, it's way too strong, it knows, it knows, it knows your nerves, it knows how you talk, how you think and what you are thinking of. It sits there and produces the thought in you, think of this, like a slave, like a robot, think of this, think of this, do this, so that, on off, on off, on off, that's all. And we sit there and we just take it, till there comes the point where we are fried, like now what. And the mind seems to, seems to really take us in a way where it's like "Okay I know everything to do, just relax, I know what to do and it takes us from one point to another point to another point to another point and we say "Wow, this is really incredible. Isn't everything working out for me? Everything is happening, I'm in my mind but huh,
it's all happening." The trouble with the mind is, it gets you to the end of the river where the waterfall begins. Takes you just to the point of no return, right where the the water is rushing so fast that you have no chance of swimming upstream and it's so fast you can't tread water, there's nothing to grab onto, that's where it says "Ciao, see you at the bottom of the waterfall. I'll see you, you won't see me. Love to see you devastated." and then just splits.
