Prem Rawat's Teachings about the Perfect Master - In His Own Words

Prem Rawat or Maharaji (Ultimate Ruler) as he calls himself or Guru Maharaj Ji as he called himself until the 1980's explained why he rarely explicitly stated he was the Perfect Master though he freely acknowledged that he was called the Perfect Master because he was the only person alive empowered to reveal the holy Knowledge of God. "… something that is perfect will never have to express itself, because it's perfect by itself. To whom - to whom will it express? To whom will it go and say, 'Well, here I am, perfectness. Realize me; I am the perfectness.' So, this is the reason that always why Perfect Master is born into this world. To actually make us - He doesn't come and say, 'Well, I am the Perfect Master.'" Prem Rawat is the living Master or Satguru but as he explains, Perfect Masters just don't like to say "I am the Perfect Master" though being masters of paradox he did say "I am the Perfect Master" at the huge Guru Puja festival in London on July 13, 1973. He probably used the description "Perfect Master" more often than any other and he claimed that his father had been the Perfect Master before him as had Jesus, Ram(a), Krishna, Buddha, Kabir, Guru Nanak, Swarupanand (his father's guru) and others of that ilk. Other synonyms for Perfect Master were Guru Maharaj Ji, Maharaji (="Ultimate Ruler"), Satguru, the Saviour, the Lord, the Master, etc.

Maharaji's Teachings About the Perfect Master

Boulder, Colorado, August 18, 1971
Q: What is the difference between a Satguru and an Avatar?
Same. What is the difference between H2O and water? Some people say "Mercy," "Lord of Mercy." Some only say "Lord," some say "God," some say "Lord Christ." Same thing.

Maharaji's Teachings About the Perfect Master

Denver Ashram, Colorado, 18 September 1971
And man is attracted, and as he is attracted, he is taken away from that world of God - away, away, away, away till he is now in a miserable position. He cannot think what he is, who he is, and so many things. That's why man was taken away from God, but it was only his fault that he was being attracted. But, because God has made so many things, again God comes in the shape of a Perfect Master, and again takes them to the same position they were in before. People who really have this Knowledge and meditate upon this, nothing seems to be new for them - it really is very ancient. … Only God can control this humanity. The Perfect Master can control this humanity, not the human beings. Human beings are themselves not perfect. And something perfect needs to lead imperfection into perfection.

Maharaji's Teachings About the Perfect Master

Denver Ashram, Colorado, 18 September 1971
Holy Ghost is the Perfect Master, Sons are we, and He is the Father. People who are existing on this earth are the Sons of God.
Then Jesus, was He just the Son of God?
Yes, yes, He was a Perfect Master. See, what is the Holy Ghost? The Holy Ghost is the same spirit as God. But when It has to take a human form It comes into that Holy Spirit. When God takes human form He is Perfect Master. Perfect. Because, except for God, nobody's perfect. So when He is the Perfect Master, He is Himself.

Maharaji's Teachings About the Perfect Master

Fernbank, London, 14 March 1972
All saints have said that before you go to Satguru to ask for and receive this Knowledge, you must have a guileless heart, a heart filled with devotion and love for this Knowledge. Ask, request, and if He is pleased with you He will shower His grace upon you and give you the Knowledge, and if not, He will not. He is almighty. He is going to give you the Knowledge. He is Guru. In Western languages He is called Perfect Master. Who is perfect? He is perfect.

Prem Rawat aka Maharaji Teachings - Perfect Master

Johannesburg, South Africa, 29 April 1972
Many great saints got fantastic experiences from this wonderful Knowledge and just wanted to spread it to all people. In every age a great saint like Rama, Krishna, Buddha, Mohammed, and Christ has taken birth on earth for this purpose, to give this Knowledge to other people, because, in their time, the truth had declined, spiritual understanding had been lost. As far as spiritual matters go, they were ages of darkness. Now in the same way, an age of darkness is again here and the perfect one has come on earth again to plant the seed of truth.
I don't mind the difficulties that are being put against me. Whenever he comes to the world the Perfect Master has to tolerate many difficulties. I have come to spread this Knowledge and that is what I am going to do. Understand this and believe it. Are you hesitating to receive this Knowledge? Why? It is very simple Knowledge. It will give you complete peace mind. It will give you infinite bliss. Do not complain later on that you were never told about this Knowledge. Again and again, I do nothing but to tell you all to take this Knowledge.

Prem Rawat aka Maharaji Teachings - Perfect Master

Denver, Colorado, August 1, 1972
Guru Maharaj Ji, what would happen if you were to die suddenly, if you were to be killed suddenly in an auto accident or a fall or anything like that? What would happen?
What would happen? How should I imagine? This is one of the crazy things that goes on with people. They sit in their chairs and think, "What will happen if I suddenly die?"
Isn't it passed on? Would you not have to bestow it upon someone else?
That is the difference between a man who has perfected himself in this Knowledge and between an ordinary man. He knows what is going to happen to him next.
Are you perfect within this Knowledge? Do you know?
I am perfect within this Knowledge, yes. I know this Knowledge perfectly.
You are the Perfect Master?
I don't say that I am Perfect Master. Why do you try to compel me to say that sentence? I did say I have perfected myself in this Knowledge.
What I have heard is that it is passed on. That there is always a Perfect Master on Earth. And that it must be passed on. Like from John the Baptist to Jesus Christ. Now if you died suddenly, you would not have passed this on to anyone else?
I just told you. That's the main difference between a Perfect Master and an ordinary man. He knows what is going to happen to him next. Perfect Master does not leave his body by anybody else's will. He leaves his body by his own will. That's why, if there were an ordinary man on the cross, he would have been dead. But Jesus Christ rose back. He got back from there. Because he is the highest supreme authority and even death is under him. Death works under him. Understand? That's why there was no death to him. He was able to come back. If it were you, maybe you would have never been able to come back from there.

Maharaji's Teachings About the Perfect Master

Tokyo, Japan, October 3, 1972
The greatest problem all around the world today, whether in America, Japan. China. Russia, India, or anywhere else in the world, is that people are not in peace. People want peace. Today, if two people fight, the government is supposed to settle them down. But when governments fight, who is going to settle then down? The only one who can settle the governments down is the Perfect Master, the incarnation of God Himself, who comes to Earth to save humankind.
And these Masters always come into the world to give and give and give and give. So if a man is losing, he can get what he needs from the Master. And if you can't find the Master I can show you God because I have realized Him!

Prem Rawat aka Maharaji Teachings - Perfect Master

1972
Why does a Perfect Master have to have a living body to give Knowledge? Why is it necessary?
Are you feeling thirsty? Can you see that photo of Lord Shiva? You see the water coming out from the top of his head? Drink that water. Drink, drink! Can You? You can't drink that water. It is a picture. You need everything living. If you have doubts, you cannot ask Lord Krishna questions. That's why you need a living Master, for the circumstances of the world today. When Jesus was here there were no nuclear bombs. But now there are nuclear bombs, and the Perfect Master, the Perfect Savior, has come to save you from nuclear bombs.
The Questions, Who Is Guru Maharaj Ji?

Prem Rawat Inspirational Speaker Teaching about the Perfect Master

A reporter for a Boston newspaper conducted this interview with Guru Maharaj Ji in 1973
A: Jesus himself revealed this Knowledge to people. I have realized that Knowledge so I know what they are talking about in the Bible, and what they are talking about in the Koran. I know what they are talking about in the Gita, I know what they are talking about in the Ramayana. Because I have known that perfect Knowledge that they are talking about.
Q: Would your role be analogous then to John the disciple or to Jesus the Christ?
A: Well, I just don't put myself in any of those. I'm just a humble servant trying to preach this Knowledge to people. Q: A humble servant of …
A: Of God. Of this most Supreme Energy. I don't say I am a Messiah, I don't say I'm a prophet, I don't say all those things.
Q: They are said of you.
A: People say, people say … actually the most common thing they say about me is that I am a Perfect Master. And what they mean by Perfect Master is the one who can reveal perfectness. Like one who teaches you math, you call him a math master, one who teaches you science, you call him a science master, one who can teach you perfectness, you call him a Perfect Master. And I can teach them what is perfectness, so they call me Perfect Master.
Q: The Knowledge can be realized through that spirit?
A: No. It has to be revealed. By a Perfect Master.
Q: By a living Perfect Master?
A: By a living Perfect Master. I was going to give you an example of Kennedy and Johnson. When Kennedy left his body, they didn't say all right, Kennedy is still going to be President. They put Johnson in.
Q: I've never understood what you are in India. Your father was also Perfect Master.
A: Yes, he was Perfect Master, and then, when he left his body he commanded me to continue his job.
Q: But didn't your father have a following before there was a Divine Light Mission?
A: Before there was a Divine Light Mission, there was a Guru to my father also.
Q: Then there has been a steady succession of Perfect Masters.
A: There have always been Perfect Masters coming into this world.
Q: Will there be another one?
A: Yes. After me.
Q: Do you think that there is only one Perfect Master?
A: You see - here I want to be very frank - people come to me and ask me about this, and they say, "What's your opinion about a Perfect Master? Is there one, is there two?" I tell them my opinion, that there is only one Perfect Master. Because perfectness is one, not two, not three. So, there is one Perfect Master in this world. And because he is perfect, that's it. He is perfect. You just can't divide perfect. I think it's funny saying that; it's just as funny as saying that the car had tires on top, and car had tires on the bottom. That's just like saying there are two Perfect Masters. You are just dividing perfectness into two - you can't do that. There has to be one Perfect Master, because perfectness is infinite, you just can't divide it. It has to be one.
Q: What happens after the Perfect Master dies or leaves?
See, to us Perfect Master dies, but Perfect Master never really dies. This is one of the things that every Christian says, "Christ left his body; Christ died for us." And the one thing I have not been able to understand is this: if Christ was son of God, how could he die? When the body disintegrates, the elements dissolve. They go back where they belong. But that energy can never die. I don't see what died in Jesus.

Maharaji's Teachings About the Perfect Master

Los Angeles' Embassy Hall, USA, June 17 1973
See, people were waiting for Jesus to come before. Before he came they were waiting for him as anxiously, or more, than we are waiting today. But when he came and was standing on this place, and people were passing by, some said, "Oh, we believe he's the Perfect Master," and some said, "No, he can't be Perfect Master." Because you see, so far we say, "Perfect Master is going to come." This is an intellectual thing. Because we think he isn't here, and he is going to come. But Perfect Master is always with us. If Perfect Master is God -- see, it says, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God, and the Word was made flesh. And the flesh was Jesus." And if it were the Word that always had existed, how could Jesus come, and how could Jesus go? He was there with them before, and he is with us now. Why are we waiting? Otherwise, he is not Perfect Master; he is not God. He cannot do anything to us, or if he does, and if he is perfect, he is with us, now, in our hearts. Because he's the Word. Because it says, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. And the Word was made flesh." And then the flesh was sent here to us.

Prem Rawat Inspirational Speaker Teachings - Perfect Master

San Francisco, California February 9, 1974
And it is just by concentrating this mind upon that perfect - and it's not hard, because it is within inside of you. And it's very easy to concentrate. It's like, all Perfect Masters have written about this Knowledge. This is really interesting, because see, Jesus came. He came in Middle East. Krishna came. He came in India. Ram came. He came in India. And all these Masters came. But still they say the same exact thing! They say about the Word. They say about the Light. They say about that far out Knowledge that is all within inside of us, that something to understand, that something that we call. That little something. What is that little something?
something that is perfect will never have to express itself, because it's perfect by itself. To whom - to whom will it express? To whom will it go and say, "Well, here I am, perfectness. Realize me; I am the perfectness." So, this is the reason that always why Perfect Master is born into this world. To actually make us - He doesn't come and say, "Well, I am the Perfect Master." Prem Rawat aka Maharaji Teachings - Perfect Master

Seattle, Washington, February 12, 1974
It's really nice to see you. And the reason that we have all assembled here is because, you might say fortunately, we have a relationship. And the relationship is that the Knowledge which is within inside of us has been revealed. And thus, it makes a relationship. It forms a relationship which virtually cannot be broken. It is like this, that if somebody comes when you are drowning in the river, and saves your life, now immediately there is a relationship that's formed. And that relationship is not of a brother, is not of a husband, is not of a sister, is not of a wife. But the relationship is something else. And it is greater than all the relationships that we have formed and we have created. That is the greatest relationship that ever can be formed between two people. And you call Him your Saviour. And it's like, the love you have towards Him is greater than you have towards your parents. It's greater than anything. And this is the reason why devotees love their Lord so much. Because there has been a relationship formed which is virtually unbreakable. Because why does a Guru come here? Why does a Perfect Master, why does a Lord, come here? To save His devotees from drowning in that ocean of this materialistic world. And if really we are lost in it, man, forget it. Just forget it. Because, its not only hard, but impossible, to come out of it.

Maharaji's Teachings About the Perfect Master

Chicago, 18th February 1974 Screwed Up
This is basically the same but what you have to understand is something beyond that point and the person who is the source of that supreme truth. When you go to him you see he always comes and he is called the Perfect Master, he always comes to this planet, Earth, and he gives us, he reveals us this truth, he reveals us this secret and his Knowledge when he gives satsang about it, when he talks about it, his knowledge of that supreme truth is much more, it's a trillion times more than what we have the knowledge of that, of that supreme truth. That is why we must go to a person who has and who is the source of this infinite bliss of the, the infinite Knowledge, of this perfection we go to him, ask him and he reveals us that truth then that is the perfect bliss that we are searching for, that we are looking for and this is why it's like there are so many people going around in this world.

This is the joy, this is the wonderful, beautiful experience those saints had, those fortunate premies had, who were able to realize the Perfect Master. Like John was able to realize Christ. Like Arjuna was able to realize Krishna. Like Hanuman was able to realize Ram. They could understand that their Saviour, that their Father, that their shelter was still there, and that they could still run to it. Premies, it's said that in this world we have always needed a Saviour, because this world has constantly been changing and changing and changing and changing.

Maharaji's Teachings About the Perfect Master

Interview at Lucknow, India, April 14, 1975
"It is funny and ridiculous to say they have removed me from office as if it is is a public office to which I was elected or appointed," Maharaj Ji said. "Nobody creates a guru. He is self existent. Nobody can make a guru except the Guru Maharaj Ji himself." However, he declined to answer his mother's charges that he had started drinking alcoholic beverages, had begun eating meat instead of remaining a vegetarian, and had shown too much interest in sex. The guru, who flew into Lucknow on Saturday after a journey from the United States, showed visible dismay when he talked about his mother. "Mothering means caring and loving," be said "If my mother denies that to me, then my goal becomes supreme and takes over. "I am not leaving my job. These accusations have not changed me. These will result in only further perfecting of the Perfect Master. The guru said he planned to return to the United States soon without going to see his mother. The Divine Light Mission, which has its U.S. headquarters at Denver, Colo., claims 500,000 American followers and eight million in India.

Maharaji's Teachings About the Perfect Master

Denver, Colorado, 8th July, 1975
This is what people should understand, if anything, and this is what people should do: you can do more service to humanity by realizing this Knowledge, propagating this Knowledge, giving people satsang about this Knowledge, than by doing anything else. Even if you become emperor of this whole world! Because who is Guru Maharaj Ji? Guru Maharaj Ji is perfect. And this perfect Lord doesn't come down Himself one day, grab everybody by the throat, and say, "You better realize Knowledge, otherwise I am going to chuck you out into hell." He doesn't do that. He even comes down into this world, bears that physical body, bears the pains, bears the suffering of this physical planet, and gives Knowledge. But if you look at Him, He is the ultimate. He doesn't need to come into this world. He has got so much power, He could manifest Himself in front of everybody in this world and ask everybody personally a question, He wouldn't even have to come down into this world. All He would have to do is come down out of the clouds and speak loud one day, and say, "People who are not going to receive Knowledge are definitely going to hell." He never does that, because that's just the way it is.

Maharaji's Teachings About the Perfect Master

Guru Puja Festival Caracas, Venezuela, July 23, 1975
You know, I was in Denver, and I was giving satsang about Perfect Master. And like, a Perfect Master, when we call him a Perfect Master, we have just said something that we really don't sit back and try to understand. When we say Perfect Master, when we say this, this person who is infinite, call him Guru Maharaj Ji, call him Perfect Master, call him Lord, call him anything you want, he doesn't need to come into this world. You see? He doesn't. Because he is perfect. All he has to do is one day get up and just scream through the blue skies, and say, "You! Everybody! Realize Knowledge. Otherwise I am going to do something to you guys you never dreamed of." And then he could do something that would sort out every person who realized Knowledge and is meditating, and every person who has not realized Knowledge. He could do anything he wants, because we just called him perfect, and he is perfect. And in fact, he could very well do that. He could, with a blink of his eye, make the people who haven't really realized this Knowledge, who are really into darkness, stand up two feet from the ground. And so you can trace them exactly, wherever they are, and turn them this funny color. And then you can really imagine what a big ego hit that's going to be, what a mind blower that's going to be. Because everybody will be able to see: "Oh, you didn't realize Knowledge, eh? See what you get for that?" But he doesn't do that. He comes into this world, and bears a body just like everyone, and comes in and knocks at everybody's doors. Doesn't pressure anybody, but begs them. Doesn't make a rule, but begs them to realize this Knowledge.
And so premies, the Perfect Master comes, and he comes in the human body. I mean, he doesn't have to. All he has to do is have a body that's as huge as the world -- and even bigger, as the universe -- and then pick up the whole world on his little finger and say, "You guys want to live, or should I blow you away?" He could do that, because we call him Almighty. And if we call him Almighty, it's a jazz for him to do this. It wouldn't take him anything. Because he's perfect. And he could just very well do that and say, "Look. If you don't realize this Knowledge, all I am going to do is -- boomp! -- and you are never going to know what hit you." But he doesn't do that. Why? He bears up with everything in this world. Look at us humans; look at the people of this world. Every time he comes, they say, "Forget it, he is not the one; he can't be the one. He doesn't have Knowledge. This is some crazy thing." And I mean, if really this ever happened, that the Almighty, the All Perfect, just picked up the whole world in his hand and said, "Should I kick your …

Maharaji's Teachings About God With Form

Guru Puja, Caracas Venezuela, July 25th 1975
You see, these examples prove that the Lord is Almighty, he is All Perfect. He can come in any form, any way, any time, any second, he wants to. We cannot say, "Well, that is the time he is gonna come," because if we can limit him, then it's a little bit funny. Because then he is limited. Then where is his perfectness? Every time, a Perfect Master has shown us that he is unlimited. He can do anything he wants to do. Be crucified, be dead, and still be able to come back. So, premies, besides all the prophecies of this world, one thing we have to realize is that he is always with us. He is omnipresent, omnipotent, and omniscient. But because of our crazy mind, we always contradict ourselves by saying, "Lord is going to come," comma, "he is omnipresent." If he is omnipresent, then where is he going to come from? That means he is not omnipresent. Or if he is, then he is always here. That is what we have to realize, that form of him that is omnipresent!

Prem Rawat Inspirational Speaker Teachings - Perfect Master

Hans Jayanti Festival, Orlando, Florida, 7 November 1975
History is like a pendulum. Every time the Perfect Master has come into this world, this is what he has explained to people: "I have come to save you." What does it mean? "I have come to save you." It means that we are not saved. That's how simple it is. Otherwise, he wouldn't come to this earth and say, "I have come to save you." We are always in trouble, and that is why the Perfect Master comes - to save us, to help us out of that trouble, out of that misery that exists within inside of us. The problem is very simple. Yet nobody could understand what Jesus was really doing to people that was making them so happy.
Actually, the whole thing was just St. John's chapter. That was it. What the teacher said was, "Okay, we can't take these two books and divide them amongst all you kids, so whoever passes his terminal exams can have one of those Bibles as an award." I tried hard and I got one of those Bibles. I took it, and I opened up the first page. It said, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with Go" and the Word was God." That really fascinated me at that time The reason was because Krishna talked about a Word, Mohammed talked about a Word, and this was the first chance. the first opportunity I had ever had to really open up a Bible and really see it and read it, and it said, "In the beginning was the Word." It really fascinated me that every Perfect Master did come down into this world, and did give one Knowledge. He spread one Knowledge he gave that one peace to this whole world.

When we take all the history of all the Perfect Masters coming into this world trying to reveal this perfect Knowledge, combine it together and put it in one book, in one page, in one sentence, it sounds crazy. That is when everybody goes and says, "Jesus. How could there be people like that?" This is when the people turn around and say, "They must have been out of their mind." And, they were.

Prem Rawat Inspirational Speaker Teachings - The Master

Memorial Day, Malibu, California, May 28, 1978
Our body is finite. Something within this body is infinite. And if we join those two things, if we make that one connection … Because what we are trying to reach, what we are trying to get to, is that most spectacular experience. And that experience is always there, because it's infinite! And we can always achieve it. We can always be there, by going to Guru Maharaj Ji, by going to the Perfect Master.Because Perfect Master not only teaches us perfectness - and that is why he is a Perfect Master - but he has the key. And not only does he have the key, but that answer, that solution, that experience, lies within him. Because he is that experience. And by approaching that Master, then he unfolds, he unites yourself, that individual, that one jiva, that one soul, to himself, and thus bridges the most, most incredible barrier, crossing the most wide, most outrageous, most violent stream of all between us, crossing all factors of time, life, death, anything that's finite - crossing all those factors - and bringing us into that perfect harmony and that perfect unity.

Because look how many scriptures that have been written. How many Perfect Masters have been on this earth? And yet it had to be an individual, person-to-person basis. I mean, if that Perfect Master wanted, he could have consolidated Mohammed, Jesus, Krishna, Ram, every one of them, in one format; John, Luke, Arjuna, Hanuman, in one format. And there'd be just two people, and they'd just come down, and that would be it. But no, that's not the way it is.

Because what created the problem when Jesus came? Okay, it was people and their craziness. Of course, it's always that. But what kind of blanket did they hide themselves under? What kind of a blanket did they pull up? "Look. Here it says this can't be it." And it very clearly said, "Look, there is going to be a Messiah coming, a teacher coming, a Perfect Master, a Saviour, coming." And people, out of the blue, went, "This can't be it. This can't be him. This can't be the Messiah."

What I'm trying to say is that in this world this is exactly the way it is. Everybody in this world, not knowing, is yet very thirsty for that Creator, for that Perfect Master to come, to bring that peace and to bring that joy, to bring that happiness, to bring that tranquility that we all need. And we don't know that. We don't know that that's what a Perfect Master is going to bring us. But a savior, obviously knowing the necessity of being saved … It's like the prayer of the devotee, "Oh come, save us. Save me in this world." And Guru Maharaj Ji then comes.

Prem Rawat aka Maharaji Teachings - Perfect Master

Royal Albert Hall, London, May 28, 1979.
A lot of people have this attitude, "Why do we need a guru?" You don't need a guru. You don't. Because if you are saying; "guru" in the connotation that you have home-brewed, then you don't need that person. Obviously a lot of people think that guru is a person who has a beard, long hair, is old, has wrinkles on his face, and lives in the Himalayas. On every sixth full moon in the year he drops down, sits under the banyan tree, stays there for twenty minutes and then goes back to the Himalayas. If that's your translation of a "guru" then you definitely don't need a guru. Then you need a Perfect Master. And whatever your head says, "This is what it is. This is what it is. This is what it is - Perfect Master …" A lot of people have asked that question over a period of time, "Are you perfect? Are you the Perfect Master? Are you perfect?" There is a vast, vast difference in those questions. Perfect is one thing. The body cannot be perfect. Anything that was created once, anything that had a beginning, anything that once was not, is stamped imperfect and shall never be perfect. Ever. But only that Knowledge is perfect. And the one who can teach us, one who can guide us, is the Perfect Master, the perfect guide, the perfect teacher. And that's what we need in our lives. We need somebody to show us the Light.

Maharaji's Teachings About God With Form

Guru Puja festival, Lingfield, England, June 21 1979
God. Everybody has a picture of God. You know, children (sucks snot up nose) they have a picture of God, This bi-i-i-ig, hu-u-uge man, you know, that's got, that can fly in a leap you know able to cross tall buildings in one leap, faster than a speeding bullet, just immaculate thing, immaculate being. We have it, in our own ways. People who believe in Ram, people who believe in Krishna, people who believe in Mohammed, people who believe in Christ, people who believe in, in Buddha have their own Gods in their own different formats. I mean, everyone of us has our different ideas of what that Creator really is. Everyone of us thinks that we know, we are right and yet, all it is, is just our painting. And Guru Maharaj Ji comes, you know, Guru Maharaj Ji comes into this world and everybody thinks that Guru Maharaj Ji is also going to pick up a piece of canvas, a bunch of paint brushes, paint and start painting a picture and we'll all see the picture and Ta-da, that'll be it. And ??? Guru Maharaj Ji comes into this world and we all think that we know the kind of picture that Guru Maharaj Ji is going to paint and when Guru Maharaj Ji comes into this world, that's true, always comes into this world but he doesn't paint a picture, no. We translate, after a Perfect Master leaves, disciples take what he has said and try to paint it into a picture but never the Perfect Master. Perfect Master never paints a picture cause he knows there isn't a picture to paint. That picture that he would paint is already within every one of us. That thing, the ultimate goal of life is already within all of us and yet we're ignorant. We do not know. We are unaware and that's no sin, that's no crime. If we do not know, we do not know and that's the why every time the Perfect Master comes into this world to give us, to give us, to teach us perfection. If we all knew, do you think a Perfect Master would come? Guru Maharaj Ji shows us something which is real, which is true because Guru Maharaj Ji brings us into this world and shows us something, gives us that realization, shows us what God really is. In its true form. That God that has no religion, is bound to no religion, is not abducted by a religion because that's what the religions do, they abduct God, they steal Him, get a copyright on Him. If you don't do things a certain way you don't believe in God. You have to go to a church every Sunday. If really we knew, us human beings knew a place where God lived, wouldn't we all move there? God, the Creator, the omnipresent, the omniscient, the omnipotent.

Maharaji's Teachings About Arti

Hans Jayanti, Friday, November 9, 1979 - Afternoon
What do we know about Guru Maharaj Ji? Okay, we say, "Oh, Guru Maharaj Ji … " There is that song, "Maharaj Ji, you are my Perfect Master." What is a Perfect Master? What do we know about a Perfect Master? Being as imperfect as we are, do we even have the faintest? How can an imperfect little brain - little, imperfect, dumb little brain - conceive of something that's incredible, conceive of something that for that brain doesn't even really exist? Here it's easy to say, "A Perfect Master, Perfect Master, Perfect Master." But what is Perfect; what is Knowledge? What even is the meaning of Knowledge? What is peace? What is Truth?

Maharaji's Teachings About the Perfect Master

Hollywood Florida, April 10 1980
And for you and me, in this world, a Master comes. Somebody comes who can give us that experience. It's simple. It's a simple layout. It's a simple plan. And the way it's executed is obviously very, very simple. Time and time again what will happen? There will be these people who will be open. There will be these people who will be devotees. There will be these people who will have that chance to understand. And their Perfect Master will come again and again for them And when he comes, he will give them an experience. They will receive the experience and experience bliss. That's the plan. And every single time it's been executed in the same way. There have been those and among them has come a Perfect Master. And that Perfect Master has given them the love, given them that bliss, given them that satisfaction, given them that Knowledge, given them that understanding. And every single time they have enjoyed it. He's absolutely not going to be any different this time. He's not going to be different next time or next to the next time- It's never been any different, ever. Nor will it ever be.
When that Perfect Master comes in this world and you give an excuse and you have a reason - I don't care what that reason is, it's wrong. How can you justify, in that sense, that every time the Perfect Master has come, people have been believing in God? And because they have made all excuse of believing in God so much, they have failed to recognize, to see, the Master. That's wrong. Even though it is what it is, it's wrong, because that God is not up there anymore. And when that God comes down and you look up, well, obviously you're making a mistake.

And even today - that Savior that comes in this world … What will be that Savior's number one enemy? What will he have to fight? I mean, he doesn't have to fight you and me. He doesn't have to fight human beings. If he starts fighting human beings, whom is he going to save? What does he fight? He fights with our concepts. He fights with our ideas. Because we have all these ideas, "This is the way it should be. If it is not that way, then it isn't what it should be."
And what we need - truly, truly, truly need - in this lifetime, for all of us, is a Savior. … We have Knowledge. It's the most incredible thing for a human being, to be fulfilling the purpose of this human life. What more can be expected of a human being? … How fortunate really we are that we have Knowledge, that we have a solution, that yes, we are saved.
I don't know where all these concepts come from. To me, here is my life. This is a precious life. Jesus came to save the ones on Earth, not in heaven and not in hell. On Earth. A Savior comes to save us right here. Those Perfect Masters that have come, have come to save human beings.

Maharaji's Teachings About the Perfect Master

Baltimore Maryland, January 1981
What is the Perfect Master? He's a human being just like you and me. And yet that soul is enlightened. That soul is full of that Knowledge. When that recipient soul becomes eager, when that recipient soul becomes hungry and realizes that hunger then that soul that is enlightened, that is full of that joy, is full of that bliss imparts that Knowledge to that other soul. Presto. Why? One lamp lit can light, really, millions of lamps. Because that, that light can just be on and on and on for us too.

Maharaji's Teachings About the Perfect Master

Miami January 16, 1981 from PMT #171
Every time there have been there has been a Perfect Master and there have been devotees, the devotees have always want to see their Perfect Master. (clears throat) Why has it been like that? And as it's not a new thing. It's a very old, ancient thing. Because bcause this enlightened soul, this Perfect Master, this Guru Maharaj Ji comes to save us and if you put it in this context if you put it in the context for instance why would premies like to see or why would devotees like to see their Perfect Master. It's a question right? Why? But the answer to it is also very simple. Why shouldn't a human being see his saviour? The one who has come to save him.

Divine Light Mission even released a song, titled "You Are My Perfect Master", produced in 1978 on a cassette tape called "Only One Love" by "One Foundation".

Whenever I need your love, you're there to satisfy me
Whenever I feel alone, you're there to walk beside me
Whenever my illusions shatter, your love will always guide me
Your grace is like an endless wind, blows away my troubles
Giving me the strength to carry on

Chorus: You are my Perfect Master, perfect lover too
The answer to my every question
Always comes from you
You are the giver and the keeper of my soul

Whenever the darkness falls I feel your hand rest in my hand
Whenever my heart calls to you, you're there to understand me
Whenever I'm down on my knees, you're there to lift me higher
Your guiding light that shines inside me, penetrates my blindness
Lighting up the way to take me home

Chorus

You were always there when I needed you
You were always ready, ready to take my hand
Your grace is like an endless wind, blows away my troubles
Giving me the strength to carry on

Chorus
